Chapter 16 - MONEY TEMPTATION

"I will give you the same amount every week if you agree to stay in the pack house. You can work there and take care of the Alpha."

"He can kill me!"

He had tried once, and she was lucky enough that he failed.

The money was tempting, but when Fenja remembered the killing intent in Alpha Jaxon's eyes that night, she shuddered in fear.

No matter how much money she got, it would be useless if she died. Who could guarantee his violent personality wouldn't come to the surface?

"No… I don't think I can take the offer."

"Are you sure?"

"Why do I choose this…?" Fenja mumbled as she packed her things. She only needed a simple backpack to gather all of her belongings from this small apartment. "What if I don't come out alive from that house?"

At first, Fenja didn't want to stay in the pack house for obvious reasons, but the money…

Moreover, if she stayed there, she didn't need to think of paying rent and food. She could eat meat as much as she wanted.

"Yeah, eat meat, and then you will become meat in that Alpha's hand."

Fenja grumbled as she walked out of her small apartment. At the parking lot, there was a car that had been waiting for her.

She hugged her backpack tightly. She owned only a few pairs of clothes because she couldn't afford to buy many of them; otherwise, she would go hungry for days.

"Is it everything?"

The driver named Alex tilted his head, thinking there might be another bag that Fenja had brought with her, aside from her backpack, but he found none.

He was so young, probably only one or two years older than Fenja.

"Yes."

Alex then opened the car door, and Fenja climbed inside; she declined Alex's offer to put her bag somewhere else.

During the car ride, Fenja stared at the capital city from the car window and felt a little bit forlorn. Somehow, this city was very crowded; there were a lot of people, more than the people in her former pack, but it was so lonely to be here.

They didn't know each other, and they always looked busy. People would look at you weirdly if you started a conversation with them.

Or, they would look tired, too tired to even help each other.

How funny this city was.

Fenja missed the quietness in her pack and how people interacted with each other. Shifter was a social creature; thus, it was rather hard for Fenja to live alone in her small apartment and talk to herself all the time.

Probably, that was one of the reasons why she decided to go ahead with Jack's offer and live in the pack house. At the very least, she could talk to Jack. There would be other shifters in the pack house too, right? Like their warriors or anyone—another omega, for example.

However, Fenja was quick to learn that aside from the Alpha and Jack, there was no one there.

They would hire someone to clean the house, but aside from that, there was no one. The warriors would be out of the house. They would guard the area around the house, but not inside, because the houses that surrounded the pack house belonged to the alpha.

Those houses were where the warriors stayed.

This was shocking news for Fenja.

"You will stay in this room," Jack said.

He gave her a quick tour of certain areas that she might visit frequently, such as the kitchen, the garden, or the library. "If you need something, you can call me." He provided her with a cell phone.

"Oh, thank you," Fenja said politely, hiding her disappointment. "May I know where the Alpha is?"

Jack said she was only allowed to interact with the Alpha during dinner, where she would accompany him to eat.

Jack would be there too, so it was relatively safe for both of them, just in case the Alpha's violent personality came to the surface.

This was what Jack and Alpha Jaxon agreed to because he wanted to be with Fenja, but at the same time, he didn't trust himself.

But, at the very least, he knew she was nearby and was not living in the rickety building that looked as if it was going to collapse.

"The Alpha is away for a business meeting, but he will return next week. You can use this time to adjust to the pack house. You can also familiarize yourself with the area around here, but never enter the Alpha's main bedroom on the third floor. Whatever happens, don't go there."

After saying that, Jack left Fenja to unpack her things.

This room was very spacious; she felt as if she had just won a jackpot for living in this kind of room. Jack said her bedroom was being prepared and this one was only temporary, but she thought it was more than enough.

"Oh, this is so nice!" Fenja jumped on her comfortable bed and hugged her fluffy pillows. "Oh, this is so great!" She was happy for the first time after she came to this city.

And because she was still exhausted, soon she fell asleep on her new bed.

In the area around her bedroom, she didn't smell that cigar and cinnamon scent, probably because the Alpha had never been in this part of the house.

This room smelled like citrus…

"Shayne, are you avoiding Nadia again?" Rachel came to see her son and voiced her unhappiness because of the way he treated Nadia. It had been a week since what happened, and Shayne had been avoiding Nadia.

However, he realized he couldn't do that because he would go to the capital city with her. If it weren't for his desire to look for Fenja, he would not have agreed to go there with Nadia.

He wanted Nadia to apologize for what they had done. That was a mistake, and Shayne understood how hurt Fenja was. He needed to bring Nadia along so that his mate could see the sincerity of their apology.
