Chapter 1 - BETRAYAL

After a long year of battle against the Winterbreeze pack, Shayne finally returned with the other warriors, allowing Fenja to breathe in relief at the sight of her mate being well.

However, she noticed that there was something different about him. She didn't understand what it was until one day…

There were sounds of voices coming from Shayne's room… There was no mistake about it.

Fenja's heart was pounding painfully against her chest. Her intuition warned her not to go and check the source of these salacious sounds.

But her body didn't listen.

She kept walking towards the bedroom, where the sound was getting louder and clearer. Their moans echoed softly against the wall, and through the small crack of the door, Fenja could see what they were doing.

Her heart shattered, and her world crumbled with the sight before her eyes. Shayne was in a compromising position with Nadia, the beta's daughter, whom he said not to worry about since he thought of her as his 'little sister.'

Well, that 'little sister' was riding his face right now.

They were engrossed in their act of betrayal, to the point that they didn't realize someone else was watching their action. Their scent was very strong.

Fenja wanted to curse herself when she didn't leave or confront them to save herself from the heartache; instead, she watched everything, unable to move.

Just like earlier, her body was not willing to cooperate. She felt her legs rooted in the same place.

How you could betray your mate was beyond her.

A mate for a shifter was for a lifetime; it was a blessing from the Moon Goddess, a sacred bond that you couldn't take lightly.

The bond should have been strong enough to prevent such things from happening, but from the look of it, it didn't stop Shayne from being pleased by Nadia.

"Fenja?"

It was Nadia who noticed Fenja first. Her voice shattered the spell, throwing Fenja back to reality. She met Shayne's black eyes, and there was this mortified look in them.

Why would he be terrified when this was his wrongdoing?

"Fenja?" Shayne immediately covered himself and pushed Nadia away from him. He got off the bed and put on his boxers. "No, it is not what you think."

Classic. Would he tell her they were only checking each other's bodies and wish for Fenja to believe that?

However, before Shayne could feed her with his bullshit, Fenja turned around and shifted into her beast and rushed away from the scene.

She ignored Shayne's plea for her to stop and Nadia's voice that asked him to stay and give Fenja some time to discern the whole situation.

The audacity of that woman was appalling.

Tonight, a festivity took place for the alpha's victorious return after a long battle. Fenja left the party to look for Shayne since he should be the star of tonight's event.

The music was blasting that night, people were dancing; however, Fenja had just found something that turned her world upside down.

She rushed through the sound of people laughing and teasing, and their cheerful mood carried the image of the cruel thing her mate had done to her.

She ran away as fast as she could from Shayne's attempt to mind-link her; she shut her mind and kept going until it was quiet.

By the time Fenja stopped running and shifted back into her human form, she had already been deep into the forest, so close to crossing the border of her pack territory.

There was no going back from what she had witnessed.

"Why? Why?" Fenja stared at the darkness around her, but instead of fear, she felt this pain in her heart. It shattered through her body, and she wailed to the void, asking the question that she didn't want to know the answer to. "Why did you do this to me!?"

Shayne was the alpha of the Silver Moon pack; he just took the title from his father two days ago when he returned from the battlefield, while Nadia was the former alpha's beta's daughter.

They had known each other since they were little; people thought they were mates when they came of age.

Yet, Fenja crushed their dream when she appeared as the alpha's destined mate only a month before he left for the battlefield.

Many people disagreed with her as the future luna of the pack because she was only an omega, but Shayne stood by her side. He defended her… until now.

How long had their affair been going on?

Fenja didn't know. She didn't want to think, and when her body was exhausted and she had no more tears to shed, her eyes closed.

She fell asleep on the dirty ground of this quiet forest while the merriment was still going on in the distance.

Shayne had asked a few of his warriors to look for Fenja, but they couldn't find her.

He still kept this under wraps because he didn't want to alert other people. It wouldn't look good if they figured out that the future luna of the pack had gone missing, especially when they started to dig around about the reason behind it.

"Calm down, Shayne. She will return." Nadia tried to appease Shayne's anxiety. She stretched her hand to massage his shoulders, but he swatted her hands away.

"You'd better leave, Nadia. Fenja will not be pleased to see you here." Shayne was very restless. He couldn't sleep a wink, as he didn't know what happened to his mate out there.

He had messed up big time. He needed to fix this.

"No, I am at fault here too." Nadia shook her head stubbornly when Shayne chased her out again. "I also want to apologize to her."

"This is not a good idea for you to talk to her."

Nadia disagreed with him. "Only a woman can understand a woman; I will tell her that everything was a mistake, and it was not as she saw it."
