Grandpa didn't slow down as he made his way through the company's hallways.
Employees stood up briefly when they saw him, offering courteous greetings, but he didn't acknowledge any of them.
His expression was focused and firm. When he reached Nicholas's office, he turned the doorknob and stepped inside, no knocking, as usual.
Nicholas looked up from his computer screen, startled. But the moment he saw who it was, he stood quickly with a smile pasted across his face.
"Grandpa," he said, walking around his desk. "What a great surprise… Please, have a seat."
Grandpa didn't return the smile. He walked slowly to the guest chair and sat down, then looked Nicholas straight in the eye.
"How are you settling in here?" he asked.
"Very well," Nicholas replied confidently. "Everything's moving fast, and honestly, better than I expected."
Grandpa nodded slowly. "Hmm. That's good to hear."
