The ride to the hospital felt longer than usual, even though it was only a few blocks from the estate.
Mason sat in the back seat, holding Anastasia close to his chest. Her head rested against him, blood staining his shirt and her breathing faint.
He whispered softly against her forehead. "Please hold on… Please don't leave me like this."
His driver sped through the streets, not bothering to obey traffic signs or red lights.
The Harrington family hospital had already been informed. By the time they pulled into the emergency driveway, doctors and nurses were waiting outside.
"She's unconscious, I think she hit her head!" Mason shouted as he climbed out of the car, carrying Anastasia in his arms.
"Get the stretcher!" one of the nurses yelled.
A doctor ran alongside them, pulling the door open wider. Mason carefully placed her on the stretcher.
