It was a quiet afternoon of that same day around 4 p.m.
Mason sat alone in his study, the thick silence broken only by the occasional shuffle of papers as he sorted through documents.
His eyes were scanning lines, but his mind wasn't focused. It kept drifting, until a memory tugged him back to last time he met Nicholas at the hospital. That one encounter he couldn't shake off.
Flashback…
Mason had just stepped out of the hospital building. The air outside was cooler, and the quiet was almost a relief, until he heard a familiar voice call out from behind him.
"You must really care about your wife," Nicholas said, his tone laced with mockery.
Mason didn't turn immediately. He paused, clenched his jaw slightly, then turned with a cold, unreadable expression on his face. His eyes locked on Nicholas.
Nicholas smirked and took a few casual steps closer. "Tell me something, Mason... Do you love her?"
