Nicholas sat in his office, legs crossed, but his mind far from calm. His fingers tapped rhythmically on the edge of his desk.
The screen in front of him glowed with numbers and emails, but none of them mattered at that moment.
'I wanted to rattle Mason… not hurt Anastasia. She's innocent in all of this.' Nicholas thought.
He stood suddenly, frustrated, dragging his hands through his hair.
"Damn it," he muttered.
He began pacing. The same loop. From his chair to the bookshelf, then back. His thoughts spun out of control.
'She could've died. What was that idiot thinking, striking her with a vase?'
He glanced at the time. Almost noon.
He grabbed his car keys and stormed out of the office. But just before heading down, he made a detour to Anastasia's department.
He stood at the corner and peeked in. Her desk was empty. His heart dropped.
Sandra noticed movement at the door and looked up. Seeing the COO himself, she stood and hurried to meet him at the entrance.
