Chapter 5 - A DEVASTATING RESULT

"What time is it?" Her memories were a little fuzzy. All she could recall was how cold her body was.

"You have been unconscious for a whole day and night." He got off the bed and walked across the room. "You are fine now."

Fenja furrowed her brows while Shayne poured a glass of water for her and helped her to drink. He looked upset, and she could feel it.

"What did your mother force me to drink?" Fenja asked after she took a big gulp of water, and the event that had occurred returned. Her dry throat felt better, but her entire body was still aching.

"Nothing."

It was very obvious that Shayne was hiding the truth and that he was very upset.

"I know you know something." Fenja gritted her teeth. "Why did you drink so much?"

"Nothing," Shayne growled. "Can you stop asking? You make my head hurt."

"Why are you upset with me?" Fenja was exhausted, but this conversation was long overdue. She ignored how her body screamed at her to get more rest. "You should blame your mother and Nadia for that! They literally poisoned me!" Fenja couldn't take it anymore.

"Don't blame my mother!" Shayne snapped; he stood up, and his figure towered above her. "This is your fault for angering her! You should mind what you said!"

Fenja couldn't understand what he was talking about, but she was sure there was a misunderstanding here.

"What I said? What did I say to your mother?!"

"Don't play dumb, Fenja. I have had enough of your attitude!"

"Attitude?" Fenja found the strength to stand up. He was the alpha, but she was still his mate, which made them stand on the same ground. "Your mother poisoned me with the help of Nadia! But here you are, defending them even when you know what happened! Don't you feel ashamed of yourself?!"

Shayne was slightly taken aback by Fenja's sudden outburst. The hatred in her eyes was palpable.

"Here you are, judging my 'attitude' when you are the one who cheated on me. I am the one who deserves to be angry here!"

"Enough!"

"What? Do you want to slap me again!?" Fenja gritted her teeth when she saw Shayne raise his hand.

Shayne balled his fist and put down his hand, but his next word stabbed Fenja harder. "I have introduced Nadia as the future luna because you have lost your wolf."

"What?" She was sure she got his words wrong.

And then the truth poured out.

Fenja couldn't believe what she just heard.

Shayne told her that the liquid his mother forced her to drink was meant to weaken her wolf, but unfortunately, because of what Fenja was going through at that time, her wolf had already become very weak to begin with.

Therefore, her wolf died instead.

She didn't have a luna wolf; she was an omega, after all; thus, her wolf spirit was not as strong as the other higher-ranked shifters'.

What Rachel had done to her sealed the deal. Fenja lost her wolf forever.

"It was a mistake." Shayne tried to appease Fenja.

It pained him to see her right now. She was in so much shock, as if she had gone through four stages of grief within a few seconds.

"My mother didn't mean to do that to you."

Mistake.

His favorite word.

The word triggered Fenja.

"All of this is only a mistake in your eyes?" She narrowed her eyes dangerously at him. How could he be so dumb and readily accept everything was only a mistake? "You cheated on me, and now I lost my wolf forever, and you call those mistakes?!"

Fenja pushed Shayne away from her; the sight of him disgusted her so much. She didn't believe it, but after she tried to sense her wolf, she couldn't deny the harsh truth.

Her wolf was no longer there. Her wolf died because of 'the mistake' his mother had made.

Fenja didn't even care about the fact Shayne had introduced Nadia as the future luna of the pack. That information passed through her head. Losing her wolf was way more devastating for her.

The title didn't mean anything to her right now. Fenja didn't want to be his mate anymore, but she wanted justice for her dead wolf spirit.

"Calm down, Fenja," Shayne said helplessly. "My mother and Nadia regretted it. They apologized to you."

"Regret?" Fenja scoffed. She was a hundred percent sure they didn't regret it at all. "What punishment for them?"

"They have apologized, and we tried to find a healer to revive your wolf spirit."

"Apologized? You let them free with only an apology?!"

"I have scolded them. What else should I do?"

That was the final straw for Fenja. She could no longer take it. She could die one day in Rachel or Nadia's hands, but Shayne wouldn't even blink his eyes.

The harsh truth sent another wave of pain through his body, but she steeled her heart.

"I, Fenja Andrea Harts, reject you, Shayne Bill Blackthorn, as my mate! May our bond sever for good!" It was the only way to hurt him: to make him feel her pain.

This time, Shayne couldn't stop her in time, but there was no need for that. He saw this coming. Fenja had tried this before; she would definitely do it again now.

Fenja waited for the pain to come because of the broken bond, yet it didn't. She didn't feel any pain at all, and neither did Shayne.

"Fenja, you lost your wolf spirit. Your rejection will not work." Shayne explained to her, reminding her that she was no longer a she-wolf.

Hearing this, Fenja lost it. She had lost so many things, but losing her wolf was the worst of all, especially the audacity of Shayne when he tried to compromise with her situation.

"Don't worry, I will take care of you. I will take care of you for the rest of your life. You don't need to be afraid."
