Shayne was not in the right mind to argue, as he was busy mind-linking all the warriors he had deployed to look for his mate, but to no avail.
People asked where he and Fenja were last night during the festivity, but he could only give them a vague answer.
'Fenja, where are you?!'
Shayne felt like he was going crazy, but thankfully, one of his warriors spotted Fenja. She was in her beast form, walking towards the pack house.
She finally came home.
Relief washed over Shayne's body as he went to the door and waited for her there.
He saw her as she shifted into her human skin. Her long black hair was disheveled, and her green eyes were red; she had been crying.
"Fenja, where have you been?! You make me worry sick!" Shayne immediately approached his mate with open arms. He wanted to hold her, but the look in her eyes made him stop.
Fenja glared past him, and when he followed her line of sight, he found Nadia standing at the door behind him.
That was when he realized he had committed the second mistake.
On the other hand, Fenja had been thinking about what she was going to do throughout the night. She didn't want to throw away this precious mate bond between her and Shayne for one mistake.
After all, a mate bond was one sacred thing you could ask for, a precious gift from the Moon Goddess for all the shifters.
Therefore, Fenja decided to return and talk about this with Shayne. She was trying to figure out if this bond could be saved.
More so, she couldn't avoid Shayne forever.
However, her resolution shattered, and her hope crumbled once again when she saw Nadia was still there.
After what happened, Shayne still kept her around!
"What is that whore doing here?!" Fenja snapped. She had never raised her voice before this, but her anger made her see red.
It was not her proudest moment, but she couldn't help it. Her fury sang through her veins. She felt her beast was enraged by the sight of that woman.
"Fenja!" Shayne raised his voice when he heard Fenja curse at Nadia. He had never seen this side of her.
Fenja used to be very kind and gentle, but for her to call others names was hard to discern.
Yet, who could blame her completely after what she had just witnessed and the emotional turmoil she had gone through in less than twenty-four hours? Fenja was in agony.
It was Shayne who ruined everything, but why should it be her who was in pain and picked up the pieces? This was so unfair!
"That's uncalled for! We can talk about this inside calmly." Shayne tried to de-escalate the situation. He glanced over his shoulder and watched Nadia, who was about to cry because of the way Fenja disrespected her. "We can talk together about what happened calmly."
"I don't want to breathe the same air as her." Fenja glared at Shayne for even suggesting that.
"Why are you being so cruel to me? You shouldn't have thrown a tantrum over a mistake." Tears welled up in Nadia's eyes. "If you really valued the sacred bond between you two, you shouldn't have run off and instead talked it through! You don't think your mate is important enough to hear his explanation. Do you know how worried Shayne was last night?"
Fenja was livid. "It's so rich coming from you to talk about the sanctity of the mate bond. From someone who rejected her fated mate because he was below your status!"
Nadia indeed rejected her destined mate two years ago because the poor man was only a warrior, and more so, she was still waiting for Shayne.
She silently wished the alpha wouldn't find his destined mate so she would be his chosen one.
No one suited Shayne except her. But the beautiful plan had to change because a year ago, Shayne found Fenja, who had just turned eighteen at that time.
"You are only a fucking omega! Don't you dare to talk to me in that way!"
"That's enough, Nadia!" Shayne had to handle Fenja first. "You can leave now!"
Hearing that, Nadia burst into tears as she rushed away from them. She felt really broken because Shayne raised his voice at her, something he had never done before.
This must have been the bad influence of that omega. She only brought disease!
"That was a mistake, Fenja." Shayne followed her to her bedroom. Once Nadia left, Fenja ignored him again and entered the pack house. "You need to understand."
Fenja turned around and snapped at Shayne. "What should I understand?! It was you who had been fooling around with the woman that you kept saying was your 'little sister,' but why is it me who needs to understand?!"
This was a very ridiculous request from Shayne. As the alpha, he should be the smart one.
"Fenja, let me explain. It was only a one-time thing; don't make it sound like I have been betraying you all this time."
"The mate bond should be enough to prevent that." Fenja gritted her teeth, holding herself back from crying. "How could you betray me?"
Shayne sighed. "This must be because I left for the battle soon after I found you."
"Is that even enough of a reason?! You should have rejected me in the first place! We could have saved everyone from this headache!"
Shayne was trying to appease her anger, but it seemed that she was getting madder with every word he said. He was clueless about what to do.
"Don't be reckless. You need to think about this thoroughly."
Fenja was very disappointed. Shayne didn't own up to his mistake; from the way he talked and how he wanted to calm her down, he downplayed what he did.
He didn't think this was a big mistake. Only a simple mistake that could be fixed by 'talking.'
