Chapter 6 - DR.Connors

"PETER, WAKE UP!"

The voice startled me out of sleep. I blinked rapidly, disoriented, and looked around to find May standing in the middle of my room. She clutched my torn, bloodied clothes in her hands, her face pale and filled with shock.

"I should've known," she whispered, her voice trembling. "The sudden changes in your body... I even thought you'd snuck out to meet a girl or something. But you were in that crazy fight yesterday..."

Tears welled in her eyes. I stood up and walked over, wrapping my arms around her gently. I was taller now, and her head rested on my chest.

"May... I never meant to hide anything from you. After Uncle Ben, you're the only family I have. When all that destruction broke out yesterday, I just kept thinking—what if you were in it? I couldn't ignore people in danger, not when I had the power to help."

She didn't say anything right away, just held onto me tighter. The room was quiet except for the steady beat of my heart.

"How did this happen to you?" she finally asked.

"It was the school trip," I explained. "Remember the day I came home feeling sick? I told you it was just a stomach ache, but the truth is... I was bitten by a radioactive spider. The next day, everything changed."

Her eyes widened slightly.

"May, I know the world isn't safe. That's why I'm going to do everything I can to protect it—and you. Those people yesterday? They had families too. And I might be the only one who could get them home safely."

She stepped back and looked into my eyes.

"That's a big responsibility, Peter. Are you sure you can handle it?"

"With great power... comes great responsibility," I said softly.

She cupped my cheek and pressed a gentle kiss to it.

"You've grown so much," she said, then quickly added, "Now go get dressed—it's getting late."

I smiled, nodded, and watched as she left the room. Then I changed quickly and headed downstairs. After a quick breakfast and a kiss on her cheek, I left for school.

When I got there, Felicia was standing by the school gate.

"Waiting for someone, m'lady?" I asked with a grin.

"Yeah. A guy with good muscles and some sharp green eyes," she said with a smirk.

"Sounds like a really sexy guy," I replied.

She rolled her eyes, then took my arm. "Come on, we've got Dr. Connors first period."

We walked through the halls and into the lab room. Dr. Connors was already at the board, wrestling with a dense scientific algorithm. so with my smart-ass brain, I walked to him and tried to solve it

He stepped aside, and after some collaborative attempts, we cracked the code.

"Thank you, Peter. You don't know how long I've been stuck on that. This could finally push my experiment forward."

"Happy to help, Doc," I said, waving off his praise.

"Meet me after school," he added as I returned to Felicia's side.

I nodded. Felicia glanced over. "What was that about?"

"He's working on something. I just helped solve a bit of it."

"Looked like a science showdown to me."

"I'm just naturally brilliant," I said with a wink.

She rolled her eyes. "ugh what a narcissistic asshole."

"Wanna hang out later tonight?"

"Sure," she said with a smile.

After School

Felicia and I talked for a bit before parting ways with a friendly hug. As I waited outside, Dr. Connors came out of the building, Harry Osborn beside him.

"How are you doing, Peter?" Harry asked.

"Pretty good," I replied simply.

"I always knew you were smart, Peter," Dr. Connors said, smiling. "Richard would be proud. That algorithm you solved today? It was the missing key. I'd like you to see this project through."

He extended his hand, and I shook it.

"When do we start?"

"Right now. Harry's coming with us to Oscorp."

We headed to the parking lot, got in the car, and drove across the city. Upon arriving at Oscorp Tower, the receptionist gave me a questioning look.

"He's with me," Dr. Connors said firmly. That was enough for her

We took the elevator up. Harry left us on a different floor, and Connors and I walked into a lab. A girl stood at a workstation—blonde, focused, and graceful.

"Gwen, you beat us here," Connors greeted.

"Didn't want to waste a minute," she said brightly, her eyes flicking to me.

"You two know each other, right?" he asked.

"We're classmates," I said with a nod.

"Hey Gwen," I greeted. "How's it going?"

"Good. You've changed a lot," she said with a light blush. "You look... different."

"Thanks," I replied, returning the smile.

"Alright, let's get to work," Connors said, rolling up his sleeves.

We dove into the project. Whatever this was, it felt like the beginning of something big.
