Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Professor Snape

The matter of going to the kitchen to improve food conditions is not urgent for now. Link also didn't want to bother the kitchen in the middle of the day.

So after struggling to finish off the food in front of him, Link directly went back to the dormitory for a nap, and afterward brought a pile of potion-making equipment straight to the Potions classroom.

Yes, their class this afternoon was Potions class.

The so-called Potions classroom was actually just a half-basement. It was dark and damp, the lighting completely relying on a few extremely dim, old magical lamps and the torches on the walls.

Moreover, around the classroom there were many cabinets filled with specimen jars, inside which were all sorts of strange human organs and bizarre creatures soaked in some unknown liquid. With the eerie lighting, it made the whole Potions classroom look particularly scary.

And on the podium at the very back of the classroom, there was placed a complete set of cauldrons, small boilers, measuring cups, knives, and other items needed for potion-making.

However, at this moment there was no sign of anyone at the podium, clearly meaning the professor who taught this class did not like arriving early, unlike Professor McGonagall.

After briefly examining the surroundings, Link sat down in the area designated for Hufflepuff students and took out from his personal space pouch the cauldron, textbook, and all kinds of tools, setting them neatly on the desk.

While Link was arranging his desk, the other students also arrived one after another.

This time, joining Link's class was Gryffindor House.

It was said that only the bravest students were sorted into Gryffindor, and fitting their characteristics, the representative color and symbol of Gryffindor were also things that symbolized courage, the golden-red colors and a lion.

It was worth mentioning that the current headmaster of Hogwarts, Dumbledore, was also a Gryffindor graduate.

Moreover, Dumbledore possessed extraordinary power and outstanding achievements, and was known by the outside world as the greatest wizard of the twentieth century.

Under his example, Gryffindor was also referred to by some as the best house at Hogwarts.

Of course, Ravenclaw and Slytherin houses scoffed at this and strongly protested.

As for Hufflepuff house, it simply maintained an indifferent, onlooker attitude.

Returning to the main topic: it wasn't until the class bell rang that the Potions classroom door was pushed open again.

A male wizard with greasy black hair and a cold, stern face strode into the classroom.

Because he took very large steps and was wearing a large black robe, from Link's point of view, his walking posture looked exactly like a big black bat.

He was the Potions professor, Severus Snape, and at the same time the Head of Slytherin House.

As soon as Snape arrived, the atmosphere in the classroom turned cold. Even the Gryffindors, known for their bravery, immediately sat up straight.

Snape quickly walked to the podium. With a casual wave of his right hand, a bare blackboard dropped down from the ceiling.

"You'd better pray you did your previewing, otherwise, we're going to have fun today," Professor Snape said slowly.

His speaking speed was extremely slow, and his tone was weird, without a hint of emotion, sounding like sleep-talking. Such a voice, combined with his forever emotionless face, naturally brought an invisible pressure to everyone present.

The students below immediately changed their expressions in cooperation.

Seeing this, Snape continued, "Today we are going to make Confusing Draught. It is a potion with a certain degree of danger. Just a little sip, and you will become reckless and irritable, and do things that normal people cannot understand."

"Its ingredients are scurvy grass, lovage, and sneezewort, along with ten tablespoons of pure water and two tablespoons of sigil solution. To make a perfect Confusing Draught, you must first use a scraper to peel the rhizome of the sneezewort, and then..."

Professor Snape continued speaking with that cold voice.

At the same time, a piece of chalk floated automatically to the blackboard, recording his words one by one.

Below the podium, the sound of pens scratching paper filled the air, students were quickly taking class notes. This was a necessary step in Potions class, because these notes were the foundation for completing the Potions homework.

If you failed to jot them down in time, then you would not be able to complete the homework no matter what, and could only copy from classmates.

As for what happened after failing the homework or getting caught copying, it would be nothing short of miserable.

Professor Snape was undoubtedly the most feared and hated professor in the whole school, no second place.

In the matter of disciplining students, he absolutely had a top-notch professional level.

Link was also taking notes. However, he didn't just see it as material for completing homework; he genuinely wanted to learn Potions well.

And during the process of copying notes, Link discovered some secrets in Snape's blackboard writing.

Link had previously previewed the contents of the Confusing Draught. The Potions textbook also recorded the brewing process in great detail, so detailed that Link felt he could start making it right away without needing a professor's guidance, as long as he had the materials.

But now, Snape's written steps had some differences from the textbook.

For example, in the process of stirring the heated potion, the textbook said to stir clockwise, but Snape wrote to stir counterclockwise.

Another example, when handling the sneezewort, the textbook said to peel it little by little from the root, but Snape wrote to cut a small incision and then tear it directly.

Link didn't know which method was better. But between the textbook and Professor Snape, he chose Snape without hesitation.

Not to mention the consequences of not listening to Snape, Link had read the original novel.

Thus he clearly knew that this greasy-haired middle-aged uncle in front of him was a world-class Potions Master.

Compared to the guys who wrote the textbooks, Snape was likely even better.

Meanwhile, after finishing explaining the full potion-making process and principles, Snape did not wait for the students to finish copying notes.

Instead, he directly announced, "That's everything about the Confusing Draught. To be honest, this is simply the easiest and most useless potion I have ever seen. If you can't even make this right, I might really have to ask Madam Pomfrey to open up your skulls and see whether your brains are stuffed with glue."

After speaking, Snape shook his arm expressionlessly.

Immediately, three oddly-shaped plants and two jars of transparent liquid appeared on every student's desk.

"Now, begin brewing."

Following Snape's command, the students below, regardless of whether they had finished their notes, immediately grabbed their tools and began brewing the Confusing Draught.

At this time, Link also finished writing his last letter and started moving.

However, compared to others, Link's movements were much more calm and cautious.

He first carefully put on dragon-skin protective gloves, and only then did he pick up a scraper and start preparing the raw materials.

Meanwhile, up on the podium, Professor Snape had also stepped down with his hands behind his back.

His pair of icy, deep eyes, like dead silent pools, constantly swept across the students.

Whether it was an illusion or not, Link felt that Snape's current demeanor looked not like a professor ready to answer students' questions at any time, but more like a lion patrolling near a watering hole on the African savanna, picking out prey from among the drinking animals.
