Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Link's Body Problems

This sudden change of events startled Link. He instinctively stepped back, at the same time pointing the kerosene lamp and magic wand in his hands over.

Then Link froze, because what appeared in front of him at this moment was unexpectedly a skinny, dark-gray-furred cat.

This cat seemed to really like Link. Seeing Link backing away, it tilted its head, and quickly came up again to rub against Link's pant leg.

"Whew!~".

Link let out a breath of relief, bent down, and petted the cat twice, making it let out a comfortable purring sound.

"Mrs. Norris! Mrs. Norris! Where did you run off to?"

At this time, a suppressed and anxious shouting voice came from the distance. Hearing the sound, Link looked over and saw a dim and blurry light source quickly approaching.

The cat obviously also heard the sound. Its body stiffened a little, as if hesitating whether to leave, but very quickly continued rubbing against Link's hand.

"Ha! Mrs. Norris! Look at what you found? A student sneaking out at night without sleeping!"

As the voice came closer, it suddenly spoke with surprise. Then, under the light of the kerosene lamp, Link saw a slightly hunchbacked old man grinning and walking out from the darkness, holding a lantern in his hand.

Upon hearing this, Link's expression became a bit helpless.

Earlier, while reading the diary, he had read that every time the original owner left Snape's office late at night, he would run into Hogwarts' caretaker, Filch.

This old bastard, recognized by all students, always eagerly wished to see students punished. Even though he clearly knew the original owner had a permit for nighttime roaming, he would still make things difficult for him each time.

"Come on, you scum violating school rules, I can't wait to see your expression when punished!" Filch said excitedly.

But upon hearing this, Link just shook his head and directly pulled out the nighttime roaming permit.

Filch's eyes, glowing green like a beast's at night, widened instantly. He reached out to grab the permit, but Link's movement was faster and he quickly pulled it back.

"Alright! Alright! It's like this again. Count yourself lucky!"

Filch muttered resentfully and was about to turn away.

But after just two steps, he seemed to remember something and turned his head, calling in a low voice,

"Mrs. Norris! We should leave now, come quickly!"

The cat called Mrs. Norris ignored him and continued rubbing against Link's arm.

Filch resentfully let out a weird screech, then pulled out a small dried fish from his pocket, spending quite a lot of effort before finally coaxing Mrs. Norris over.

Watching the man and cat gradually walk away, Link helplessly shook his head.

He couldn't understand why Filch would repeat such meaningless actions day after day. But obviously this had little to do with Link's current situation, so after sighing for a while, Link started off again, heading towards the infirmary.

To prevent students from falling ill suddenly at night, Hogwarts' infirmary was on duty 24 hours a day.

Of course, this did not mean Madam Pomfrey didn't need to sleep. If you disturbed Madam Pomfrey's rest at night for some trivial matters, she would definitely make you understand why flowers are so red.

Fortunately, when Link arrived at the infirmary, Madam Pomfrey had not yet gone to rest. Accompanied by the slapping sounds of slippers against the ground, and still wearing her work clothes, Madam Pomfrey quickly appeared in front of Link.

"Link, it's so late, what's the matter?" Madam Pomfrey said kindly, squatting down.

Hearing this, Link extinguished the kerosene lamp and said, "Madam Pomfrey, it's like this, I just came out from Professor Snape's place…"

Before Link could finish speaking, Madam Pomfrey's face suddenly changed drastically. She immediately grabbed Link's arm and helped him to a soft chair nearby, then started bustling around.

"Oh! Link! Sit down and rest for a while first. Here, hot cocoa for you, it will make you feel better. And a hot towel, quickly cover it on your forehead."

Watching Madam Pomfrey's busy figure, a trace of surprise flashed across Link's eyes. Because the other party's reaction clearly showed she knew about Link drinking potion.

"Wait a moment, Madam Pomfrey. I feel very good right now, none of those previous bad reactions." Link hurriedly said.

"I'm just a little confused. What exactly was the potion Professor Snape made me drink? And why did he insist on feeding it to me?"

As soon as these words came out, Madam Pomfrey's body stiffened. She turned her head incredulously and said, "You said just now, you no longer have those bad reactions?"

"Yes, after drinking the potion, I just slept and felt very good."

"Oh! Merlin! That's simply wonderful!" Madam Pomfrey clapped her hands excitedly like a little girl, which made Link even more confused.

"What exactly is going on?"

"I believe Professor Snape already explained some of it to you, but I'll say it again." Madam Pomfrey said with a smile.

"Something very terrible once happened to you, causing problems in your body. The potion you drank was specifically made to improve this condition. It was requested by your mother, and also one of the conditions for Dumbledore allowing you to enroll."

"Over the past year, Snape has improved this potion countless times, but all to no avail. However, now it's different. Your recent condition proves that our efforts have been effective."

Link frowned deeply. Although Madam Pomfrey's words answered some of his confusion, they also brought out even more questions.

After thinking for a while, Link continued to ask, "So what exactly is wrong with my body, and what terrible thing happened to me?"

"Sorry, Link, I cannot say. Speaking about these things will only make your condition worse." Madam Pomfrey said apologetically.

Hearing this, Link shook his head and insisted, "You also said that my current condition is good, so I think maybe I don't need to take medicine anymore. You say…"

"No! The medicine absolutely cannot stop!" Madam Pomfrey said firmly.

"Link, listen to me. Although your condition has indeed improved recently, no one can guarantee what will happen later. And you don't need to worry about side effects from the potion. I can swear by St. Mungo's name to guarantee to you that this potion only acts on patients. For normal people, it's just a tonic."

"It not only won't cause dependency or weakness in limbs like regular side effects, but will continuously enhance your mental strength and physical strength. So be good, okay? We would never harm you."

Facing Madam Pomfrey's sincere eyes, Link's mouth opened and closed for a long time. Finally, he spoke word by word, "It's not that I can't drink the potion, but I have one condition. That is, as much as I drink, Professor Snape must also drink!"
