Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Staying After Potions Class

Having this kind of feeling was not something that only Link had.

In fact, at the moment when Snape walked down from the podium, the atmosphere of the entire classroom became even more tense and serious.

A Gryffindor boy who was closest to Snape, due to being overly nervous, accidentally cut the Sneezewort in his hand into two halves, and even accidentally drew a cut on his own finger.

Bright red liquid instantly flowed out, dripping onto the desk with a drip-drop sound, and at the same time dyed that stalk of Sneezewort red.

The Gryffindor boy's face drastically changed; he didn't even bother to press on the wound, and instead immediately looked up at Snape.

As expected, Professor Snape had already arrived in front of him, at this moment looking at him with eyes as if staring at some kind of disgusting bug.

"Ha! Mr. Parry, your operation truly is astonishing. Because of your outstanding performance, a medicinal herb worth 2 Galleons has now been completely contaminated. Perhaps I should contact the Daily Prophet to publish your 'feat' just now. I believe that after the International Potioneering Association learns about it, they will definitely rate it as one of the Top 10 Most Foolish Operations of the Year. Gryffindor loses 20 points. Now… stretch out your hand."

Snape spoke without any mercy, and upon hearing this, the Gryffindor boy shrank his neck and very unwillingly stretched out his uninjured hand, that expression was as if he were stretching his hand into the bloody mouth of some carnivorous beast.

"What a troll brain. I said the hand that is injured."

"Oh, oh! Sorry, Professor Snape!"

The boy hurriedly switched hands. Seeing this, Snape showed a look of disgust, grabbed the boy's palm, pulled out a small bottle of sticky green liquid from his robe, and poured it onto the wound.

This kind of liquid must have been extremely irritating, because immediately a heart-piercing scream rang out. The boy's body twisted, as if he wanted to pull his hand back.

But Snape tightly gripped his hand and only let go once the screaming gradually weakened.

Bang!

The boy fell heavily back onto his seat, and at this moment, fine beads of sweat from the pain had already formed on his forehead.

The surrounding students' expressions also turned into a mix of anger and fear, especially the Gryffindors, their gazes toward Snape were almost shooting out flames.

However, they still maintained enough rationality and did not do anything extreme.

Different from them, Link, after glancing out of the corner of his eye, instead revealed a thoughtful expression. Because even though the injured Gryffindor boy had screamed terribly, the wound on his hand, after being treated with the green liquid, had already stopped bleeding and even showed signs of gradually healing.

It was obvious that Professor Snape had actually been treating him just now.

Only, this still could not change the fact that Snape's personality was extremely bad, after all, Snape was a Potions Master. Even though he couldn't heal wounds instantly just by touching them like Madam Pomfrey, he surely had other healing methods.

Link shook his head almost imperceptibly, then lowered his head and once again devoted himself into the making of the Confusion Potion.

Just like Professor Snape had said earlier, the Confusion Potion indeed wasn't very difficult, but that was only relative.

As a potion belonging to second-year curriculum, its production process was still very tedious, and the entire process had to be extremely precise, even a tiny mistake could cause a chain reaction, leading to the Confusion Potion's quality dropping, or even failure.

Thus, Link put all his mind into it, carefully stripping the root stem of the Sneezewort, then grinding the Lovage into a paste, mixing it with Sigil Solution and clear water, and then using the Sneezewort stem as a stirring stick to stir back and forth...

And while Link was concentrating on brewing potions, around him came continuous sounds of cauldrons exploding, containers shattering, screams of pain, and Snape's slightly delighted voice announcing point deductions.

It was obvious that not everyone had Link's steadiness, and could flawlessly complete the task, especially under Snape's hawk-like gaze.

"That venomous snake has started again." John whispered beside Link.

Link gave him no response, only focusing on handling the black paste in his hands.

John was clearly used to Link's cold attitude, and continued talking to himself, "Snape is the most vile professor in all of Hogwarts. He's even worse than our Professor Sprout when it comes to favoring his own House's students, and he has no bottom line. In order to ensure that Slytherin wins the House Cup, he's always making trouble for other Houses and deducting points. And when it comes to Slytherins, he immediately switches to a completely different face."

"Because of Snape's protection, Slytherin has won the House Cup for six years in a row. Thanks to him, the class I hate most is Potions. But luckily today we're having class with the Gryffindors, after all, Gryffindor is the House Snape hates the most..."

John prattled on endlessly, while clumsily handling potion materials with his hands, completely unaware that a shadow had already enveloped him.

"Talking during class. Hufflepuff loses 10 points."

Snape's sudden cold voice startled John so much that his hands shook, nearly knocking over the cauldron beside him.

Seeing this, Snape regretfully withdrew his gaze and turned to look at Link.

Unfortunately for him, Link had completely ignored John from start to finish, and the potion in his hands was being brewed meticulously, without the slightest flaw.

However, Snape obviously wouldn't give up so easily. He began slowly pacing around Link, trying to pressure him into making mistakes through psychological stress.

But, Link still did not satisfy him.

Seeing Link's Confusion Potion nearly complete, Snape's originally calm and stoic face showed a trace of displeasure. Finally, Snape could no longer hold back.

He pointed at the leftover scraps from processing the Sneezewort on Link's table, which had not yet been cleaned up, and said, "Desktop not tidy. Violated the basic principle of potion-making. Hufflepuff loses 5 points."

After speaking, Snape left triumphantly, leaving behind a stunned Link.

John timely leaned over, didn't say a word, but gave Link a "See? Didn't I tell you?" look.

Link, after a moment of daze, gradually returned to normal. But contrary to what John imagined, Link didn't actually feel much dissatisfaction internally.

He had long noticed that ever since he came to Hogwarts, every professor he met treated him very well, even to an absurd degree.

This made him somewhat uneasy. And now finally there was a professor who didn't treat him specially. This instead made him breathe a sigh of relief.

Stretching his arms, Link once again devoted himself to the making of the Confusion Potion.

As he sprinkled the final powdered Rotten Blood Herb into the mixture, the originally black and sticky liquid instantly became clear and transparent, looking just like a bowl of jelly.

It matched exactly the description of the completed Confusion Potion from the book.

Link nodded in satisfaction.

And at this time, the class period ended. After Snape, as usual, assigned a mountain of homework, the students began cleaning up their desks with drooping heads.

Link was doing the same thing, but before he could finish packing up, Snape on the podium spoke again, "Link Flamel! Stay after class."
