Anastasia sat cross-legged on her bed, enjoying the rare calm that filled the house. No cold stares from Mason. No suffocating silence. No storms. Just peace.
For once, she allowed herself to feel normal, until there was a knock.
A soft, polite one. Too polite.
"Who's there?" Anastasia asked gently, not expecting anyone.
"Ma'am, you have a visitor," one of the maids responded from outside.
Her heart sank slightly. "Okay… I'll be out soon," she replied.
"Who could that be? I don't remember expecting anyone today and certainly Mason didn't say anything about someone coming." She whispered to herself gently with curiosity laced in her eyes.
She slowly got up and changed into something casual, her mind racing with questions.
'Who could it be? Mason's mom again? One of my coworkers? No it can't be, none of them knows my whereabouts.' She wasn't in the mood for shallow smiles or fake concern.
When she stepped into the living room, the surprise hit her hard.
