A few minutes later, the captain came out of his room and went into the kitchen to prepare dinner. Grey stood up and went to the kitchen to help. But the captain didn't really need his help so he just stood and watched.
When the dishes were ready, the captain and Grey set down six plates and sat down to cultivate. Grey stared at him for a few seconds before doing the same.
When ten minutes elapsed, the captain suddenly opened his eyes. Grey also opened his eyes two minutes later.
There was a knock on the door and before anyone could even answer it, the door opened. The burly man named Zuro entered. He glanced at the captain then looked at Grey with a cheeky smile.
He also joined them at the table and began to cultivate. Not long later, the remaining people of captain's team entered one by one. Following with Luo and the other two guys.
When they entered a beamed a smile at their companions and sat down at the table. When everyone was seated, the captain opened his eyes and began to eat.
Then everyone followed suit. They had all waited patiently for the captain to start before they joined. Including Grey.
'What did he do to make them have this much respect for him?' Grey asked himself but couldn't see anything different about the captain. But when he remembered the captain in the morning, looking over the scavenger camp like a proud noble young master, his breathing quickened.
The meal was peaceful and quiet. And Grey couldn't help but think this was comfortable. Under the siege of sixth people, the food quickly vanished.
Immediately the food finished, Grey picked up the plates and went to the kitchen to wash them. When he cane back, he saw the captain and the rest of the team talking.
When he entered, the captain and everyone looked at him. Then the captain nodded and spoke in his soft tone.
"Kid, we are trying to decide where you'll stay. Luo over here volunteered for you to stay with here. She also has a kid your age staying over there. Make your choice." After that, he kept quiet.
Grey was silent for a few moments. At first he thought that it would be okay to stay with Luo. After all, the captain was so weird and he didn't know the exact reason he asked him to stay with him.
But on the other hand, he valued the silence and the freedom to cultivate very dearly. But he didn't know if that would change in the future. When he looked at Luo and her bright expression, he finally made a choice.
"Can I continue to live here?" He asked. The captain nodded after a few seconds and the rest of the team members continued in their conversations.
Grey was too young and to unknowledgeable about the world, so he couldn't join them. But he kept his ears open and listened attentively.
Along with some other information, he also got to know about their next hunting date. Along with the recent activity of the Shadow academy. They were moving closer and closer and in the next months, they would eventually reach the scavenger camp.
When it was a few hours into the night, the team members left one by one until only Luo and Zuro remained.
Zuro patted his shoulders with his broad hands and beamed at him a small smile. Then he went outside and waited for Luo. Because he was too tall, he had to bend his head just to get out the door.
Luo then came and whispered some words into his head, to which he nodded. Then she rubbed his head and doing so ruffled his hair.
She then left with Zuro into the night. Grey and the Captain stood at the entrance watching them go off.
'What relationship do they have with the leader of the scavenger camp?' He asked himself this question but didn't ask the Captain.
After a few more seconds, the Captain told him a few instructions and entered his room. So only Grey stood in the entrance of the house. After a few minutes, he locked the door and closed the curtains. Then he turned off the lights and entered the room the Captain told him to stay.
When he entered the room, he looked at the plain furniture with a new light.
Because he was dirty and full of grim, he didn't sit on the bed and instead sat down on the cool floor and began to cultivate until the bright light of dawn beamed upon his face.
When he opened the door, he saw the Captain standing on top of a single block in the sky. A trace of his hair had turned white and his face was cold and looked to be filled with pride. But he knew that it wasn't pride, it was just the icy aura coming from the art he practiced.
'So I didn't imagine it...'
When the sun had fully risen did the Captain walk, step by step until he touched the ground. His aura retracted back and his proud gaze was gone.
When he remembered Luo's words, his breathing quickend.
"Do not disobey the Captain. Whatever he tells you to do, you do it. And don't argue with him. When you are with him, nothing in this scavenger camp can hurt you. He was once the number one genuis of this Continent after all..." Her voice echoed in his ears and he couldn't help but agree.
Now the reason for their respective gazes was clear. But why was the number one genuis of the continent the leader of a scavenger camp? Something must've happened.
The Captain oblivious to his thoughts, beckoned him inside and he prepared a meal for both of them in the morning. As he was eating, he suddenly said with a bit of emotion
"You are a young boy and are growing, you cannot be eating only once a day and late at night." After he said that, the emotion on his face disappeared and Grey could only see his usual calm and cool self.
