Chapter 18 - Chapter 18- Deathly saint

As Grey's mind entered a state of absolute clarity, time seemed to slow down a bit as he registered the following actions of the wolves in his head.

His body suddenly moved as he twisted his body and avoided a wolf that had suddenly jumped from overhead.

His dagger went into the underbelly of the wolf and a muffled whimper cane from the wolf as Grey continued to cut the underbelly.

Internal organs fell into him but that didn't deter his concentration, instead he rushed to the next wolf and struck with the hilt of the dagger. As it reeled back in pain, Grey punched out with all his power.

At the fourth level if Qi accumulation, coupled with his natural strength and the power of the purple crystal, he was as strong as a cultivator in the fifth level of Qi accumulation.

The wolf was barely in the third level of Qi accumulation, so it's head caved it and exploded into blood.

'Their heads are not as tough as their body!'

Grey said inwardly as he retracted his hand and reached for the next wolf. The wolf tried to bite Grey's hand, but Grey was faster and avoided the bite while punching the head of the wolf.

The wolf let out a wild cry as it's head also caved in. It didn't explode but it was in a lot of pain. Coupled with its previous injuries from the Captain, it died shortly after.

All of this seemed to have taken a lot of time, but barely a few breaths had elapsed since Grey started to move.

With the wolves moving much slower in his eyes, Grey avoided all the attacks from the wolves while at the same time, afflicting pain and huge damage to the wolves.

His hand holding the dagger moved again and with it, blood spilt and wolves died in one way or the other.

Grey started to advance and soon, he had passed Luo and the other two men who were handling their own share of wolves. He was slightly behind the rampaging Zuro whose axe rose and fell like an executioner's blade.

Wherever his blade fell, blood would flow and heads will roll. Despite his big build, he was surprisingly nimble and fast. Greg could hardly see his movements as his axe reaped lives every second.

When Grey's gaze finally landed on the Captain, he was dumbfounded. The Captain had switched to double swords and was claiming lives like the grim reaper.

Unlike Zuro, who killed like a barbarian as his axe rose and fell. The Captain was all about finesse and skill. Every action he made was calculated and precise.

Some strikes that seemed feint and non lethal, always managed to met their strike. And even more wolves were dying under his double blades.

He made no unnecessary movements as he moved like a dancer. His white hair fluttering in the wind. His expression calm and as nonchalant as ever. His lips curled a little in disdain.

'What am I witnessing right now.'

Grey asked himself but he knew exactly what he was seeing. He was seeing the Captain's battle art. Although he didn't know what a battle art was, seeing the Captain's movements made him realize that he was witnessing a battle master.

'Who the heck is the Captain!?'

Subconsciously, Grey had begun to burn the image in his head. He didn't want to forget this sight.

And that was not even the most shocking part. In spite of all the blood and dead bodies around him, not a single drop of blood had spilt on his body. His hair was as white as a saint. He looked like the harbinger of death, but was as clean and fair as a saint.

In the midst of death and blood, his entire existence was like a deathly saint.

Grey had been staring for so long that he hadn't noticed when a wolf suddenly leaped at him from behind. He was too slow to react and as the wolf was upon him, a battle axe suddenly fell and the wolf was instantly spilt into two.

"What are you doing kid. Get your head in the game."

Zuro had already rushed behind him and blocked another wolf attack. Grey was still stunned so it took a few seconds for him to react.

"En."

He held his dagger tightly and continued to cut down wolves. But occasionally, his gaze would move to the Captain in reverence.

Under the combined attacks of the six team members, the horde of wolves did not seem so scary and harrowing anymore.

But the whole battle was kept in a fragile balance. With most of the attack force relying heavily on the captain to cut down the approaching wolves while the rest would be picked off by the rest of the team.

Although only half an hour had gone by, Grey felt it had been going on for much longer. If he felt this way, then how muct the captain feel? He then looked at the captain.

He was still flawless and his calm nonchalant expression was still on his face, but Grey could see slight paleness as well.

It was evident the captain was reaching his limit. There was no lag in speed or power, but Grey felt that the tide of battle could change at anytime.

Suddenly, a wolf got past the captain and tried to attack him from behind. He was currently handling six wolves right now and could not afford to divert his attention.

He was still thinking of his next move when the wolf had its head stabbed open by Grey. Because he came from behind, and the cacophony of battle cries and deaths were too loud. The wolf did not sense him approaching at all. He killed it easily.

As he killed the wolf, he quickly pulled out the dagger and was behind the captain. Protecting him from any wolf that may suddenly attack.

The captain looked at him with a little glint in his eyes before he nodded at him. And together, they repelled the oncoming wolves and broke their advancement by acting like the bow of a ship, that cut open waters.

Twenty minutes passed again but the wolves were starting to relent. The Captain's clothes and hair were finally dyed in blood. His hair was back to their normal color as fatigue could be seen on his face.

It was not only him, but every member of the team felt extremely tired and spent. Grey wanted to sigh, but if he lost concentration for even a moment, it would be his death.

This was the first fight that he had ever fought that he was this tired. He looked at the captain who had reverted back to normal and didn't know if it was because he was out of spirit energy, or he couldn't use that form for too long.

Even Grey's reserves of spirit energy was empty. He was surviving on sheer willpower. The only good thing about this battle was that he had gotten a glimpse of the captain's awesome battle art and was starting to implement it in his own way of fighting.

Also, he felt his body and will were being tempered by this battle. Next time he fought on a battle of such scale, he felt that his performance would be much better.
