Cherreads

Chapter 26 - Let the Police Handle It [2]

Barrett never liked Rachel, so seeing her resign made him secretly happy. But he still couldn't resist making things hard for her.

Everyone's salaries were paid a month late, and she had to resign early if she wanted to get her full pay.

But Rachel really needed the money right now. She had to use it to pay off that shameless man.

Without her salary, how was she going to afford rent or even food?

And there was that one time a former manager's friend resigned and got her full salary settled immediately. So why couldn't she?

"If you don't settle it for me today, I'm not leaving," Rachel suddenly raised her voice. "I want to see why all of you keep bullying me!"

Her voice echoed through the shop. Customers turned their heads and started watching.

With red eyes, tears began to fall. "You think I'm easy to bully just because I always swallow my pride?" Her voice trembled.

Tears rolled down her cheeks one by one. She really felt wronged, especially today. She had never cried like this in front of people before.

If she cried like that, could the store still keep doing business as usual?

In the end, Barrett gave in and settled all of her salary.

Rachel packed her things quickly. It was still just morning, but it felt like an entire lifetime had passed already.

"Mummy, why are you back from work so early today?" Cora ran up happily when she saw her. Her big, shiny Dakota eyes sparkled.

But Rachel's face was pale and tired.

Cora quickly ran to pour her a glass of water. "Mommy, are you not feeling well? Let me take care of you," she said softly.

Rachel looked at her daughter with love and pulled her into a tight hug. Cora obediently snuggled into her mom's arms.

"Mommy's fine," Rachel forced a little smile. "Mommy accidentally broke something very expensive that belongs to someone. I don't have the money to pay them back, so that person wants me to be his driver to pay off the debt. You might have to suffer a bit with Mommy from now on."

Her eyes were already red when she said that. It was just a piece of clothing, but it was insanely expensive.

"As long as I'm with Mommy, I won't feel anything bad at all," Cora said sweetly.

She stood up from her mother's arms, tiptoed and kissed Rachel on the cheek.

Then she held her mother's chin in her small hands and said seriously, "Mommy, I won't ask for toys anymore, and we can buy the car later. It's really not a big deal. When I grow up, I'll earn money and buy it for you. So don't be sad."

Rachel nodded hard and hugged Cora tightly again. Then she tilted her head back at a 45-degree angle, trying to hold back the tears.

These were tears of emotion, and she didn't want Cora to worry.

"That's right. It's not a big deal," Rachel said with a soft smile. "Mommy will definitely work hard."

"Destiny brought us together in troubled times..."

It was a call from Kellan, and Rachel reluctantly picked up. She had just lost her temper with him, but she was still scared he might actually call the police.

As long as she could stay with Cora, she was willing to do anything, even if it meant being like a servant.

Kellan told her to move into his villa today, saying she'd be on call for him 24/7.

Rachel agreed, knowing she had no choice.

"Cora, we're moving to that man's house," Rachel said after hanging up the phone.

Cora nodded obediently, and the two of them quickly packed up and headed downstairs.

The driver was already there, and he helped Rachel load their luggage into the car's trunk.

The car finally stopped in front of a super luxurious villa halfway up the mountain.

The place was insane, there was even a river flowing beside it. It honestly looked like some kind of royal palace.

Under the sunlight, the glass walls sparkled so brightly it almost blinded Rachel.

"Mom, this place is soooo beautiful!!!" Cora said with wide eyes. It was the prettiest house she had ever seen.

"Miss Allen, I'm the housekeeper here. You can call me Aunt Ives," said a middle-aged woman with a warm and gentle smile.
