Chapter 28 - Chapter 4

"How was training, Lilith?" the marquess asked.

"Good," I replied.

"I saw Big Sis in her training. She was so cool!" the kiddo Mika commented. The way she talked sounded like a child, as it should.

"You did well, Lilith," the marquess said with a surprising smile.

"Thank you, Marquess."

"Lilith, I know it might be hard and new for you, but how about you call me 'Marquess Mother'?"

I looked up from my plate. My eyes met the marquees's blue ones. Her voice was soft and gentle as she asked me to call her and the marquis "Mom" and "Dad."

"Thanks, but I'd rather stick to 'Marquess' and 'Marquis.'"

"As you wish, Lilith, but I'd be happy if you considered it."

I got up and stormed out of the dining room. Why should I call her 'Mom' when I didn't even call my real mother that? Does she have a death wish? If I were to even accept that old lady as my mother, she would die just like my real mother.

I sat down on a white bench in the main garden of the marquess's mansion. This garden was the marquess's favorite. She would sit here and read a book every evening. The garden had so many flowers: white roses, red roses, and a huge cherry blossom tree. Beneath it was a small swing. Mika and Lean always played there after breakfast.

I took a deep breath. I was frustrated, and I knew it. Why do I even know that much about them? It's not like I care.

I stood up and made my way to that boy's room.

As I arrived, for the first time, I hesitated before opening the door. In the end, I did open it and walked in. He was standing in front of the window. I smiled proudly.

"You got taller, kiddo."

"When did you get here, Lilith?"

"Not long ago."

"How was dinner?" I sat in the chair.

"Don't even mention it."

"Did something happen?"

"Don't worry about it. It's nothing." I leaned into the chair and closed my eyes. I fell asleep. I didn't expect myself to fall asleep in front of someone. I never did that before..
