"I am not dancing. Not over my dead body."
"You'll nail it, Lilith." Max walks over to me and places his hands on my shoulders.
"Of course I will. I nail everything I do. But have you ever heard of shame?"
His attention turns to Kira, and he lets go of my shoulders.
"No need to be ashamed or embarrassed. After all, you won't be doing it just once or twice."
I shift my gaze from Max to Kira.
"You guys are crazy." I step back slowly.
Lila and Liam walk in.
"You three are here—nice," Lila says joyfully.
"What do you want, Lila?" Compared to Lila, Kira sounded dry as hell.
"Mommy and Daddy told us to inform everyone that tomorrow we're going on a picnic."
Kira and Max exchange looks, and I glance at both of them.
"Tell Mom and Dad I don't have time for that," Kira says, her dryness sharp enough to cut glass.
"Kira, you have to come. Last time we let it slide, but not this time," Liam comments. He doesn't sound like a ten-year-old, but he reminds me of myself at his age.
Max and I were standing near the table, Kira was sitting on the couch, and Lila and Liam were standing in front of the door.
The room was light-colored. The palette was something like white, baby blue, and yellow?
"I have classes and training tomorrow," I say.
"You won't have any tomorrow, sis." Lila's joyfulness left no room for argument.
"When is the picnic going to be?" Max asks. His brown hair shines under the light, and his blue eyes meet my dominant brown ones. Max and Kira look completely different—Kira has blonde hair and black eyes. Meanwhile, Lila and Liam look the same since they're twins. Both have ash blonde hair and blue eyes. The only difference is Liam has short hair while Lila's is long.
"I don't know. Ask Mom and Dad about that, Max," Liam replies. His voice reminds me of James'.
"I'm going to sleep," Kira says, standing up and walking to the door. Her steps are small.
"I'm gonna go sleep too," Max adds.
After Kira leaves, Lila and Max walk out, leaving me alone with Max.
"See you tomorrow," I say before leaving Max all alone in the room.
