After Class…
Once class ended, all the girls rushed to befriend Jay—everyone except Sanjana. One girl came up to him and said, "Hi, I'm Poorvi Saxena, the mayor's daughter." Another followed, "Hi, I'm Sheela Arora, the SP's daughter." One after another, the girls introduced themselves. Jay just responded with a polite "Hi" and stayed quiet. He wasn't fond of talking to too many people—especially girls. The only person he truly wanted to impress was Sanjana.
But Sanjana was too busy taking notes to notice.
Slowly, even the boys said hello to Jay and left. Soon, the classroom was nearly empty. Only two people remained—Jay and Sanjana.
As Sanjana finished her notes and looked up, she realized everyone else had already left. Her eyes landed on Jay. Walking up to him, she asked, "Aren't you the same guy who bumped into me yesterday?" Jay nodded and replied, "Yes… I saw you were writing something very intently."
Sanjana smiled and said, "Yes, I was just noting down some important formulas." The two of them chatted casually and walked out of the class together.
As time passed, Jay started becoming friends with everyone in class. But most importantly, he began sitting next to Sanjana every day. Some girls tried to create misunderstandings between them—but always failed.
It had been nearly six months since Jay had started college. He had made up his mind—he was going to propose to Sanjana. With the help of his friends, he planned everything at a café near the college.
After classes, as Sanjana was heading toward her hostel, Jay asked her to come with him to the café. The moment Sanjana stepped inside, rose petals rained down on her, and romantic music began playing—"Sanjana… I love you, Sanjana… I love you…" from the film Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.
Stunned, Sanjana stood still.
Jay walked up to her, knelt on one knee with a rose in his hand, and said, "Sanjana, I love you… Will you marry me?"
His friends cheered from behind, "Say yes, Sanjana! Say yes!"
But without saying a word, Sanjana turned around and walked out.
Jay's hand dropped, the rose fell to the floor. He immediately ran after her, with his friends following close behind.
Catching up, Jay said breathlessly, "Sanjana… what happened? Did I do something wrong? Or is there someone else? If there is—"
But Sanjana, upset, interrupted, "Jay, I don't want to talk to you. Please just go away." She got into an auto and left.
A week passed.
The next time Sanjana walked into college, she saw Jay walking toward her. She tried to ignore him, but he gently stopped her and said, "Sanjana, please don't walk away like that. At least say something. You haven't returned a single call or message. Did I do something wrong? If I did, I'm sorry."
Sanjana replied softly, "Jay, you're a really good person. You've never said anything to hurt me. None of this is your fault. You don't even need to apologize."
"Then why are you avoiding me?" Jay asked, hurt. "Why won't you talk to me? Why didn't you accept my proposal? Do you know how much that hurt?"
Sanjana looked down. "Jay… Even if I wanted to, I can't fall in love. I can't marry or have a family—because I have a purpose. A reason that stops me from doing all that."
"A purpose?" Jay echoed in confusion. "What kind of purpose?"
Just as Sanjana was about to respond, the college bell rang.
She looked at him and said, "Jay, classes are about to start. We'll talk later." And with that, they both walked back inside.
After class, they went to the café just outside the university. On the way, Jay noticed a group of men following a girl. He frowned.
"Sanjana, you go inside," Jay said. "I'll be back in five minutes."
She nodded and went in.
Five minutes passed. Jay didn't come. Worried, Sanjana stepped back outside and spotted Jay at a distance, talking to the same group of men. Curious, she walked toward them.
Jay was standing between the group of miscreants and a terrified girl.
"What are you guys doing?" Jay demanded.
One of them laughed, "Can't you see? We've fallen for this girl. We're going to make her ours."
The girl looked petrified—tears streamed from her eyes. She was deaf and mute.
When the goons tried to drag her away, Jay stepped forward, blocking their path.
"Let her go, or you'll regret it," he warned.
One of them stepped up, puffing his chest. "And what will you do?"
Jay responded with a punch straight to the guy's jaw, knocking him to the ground.
The others lunged at him—but Jay fought them all off, one by one. He tore off his shirt as the fight intensified, protecting the girl with everything he had.
The attackers now lay groaning on the pavement.
The girl ran toward Jay for help—but just then, one goon got back up. Pulling a knife from his pocket, he crept up behind her to stab her.
Jay saw it just in time. Throwing himself between the two, he took the knife to his own body.
Blood began to flow. Sanjana screamed from the distance, "JAY!"
