Chapter 10 - "A Wound, A Confession"

As soon as the knife strikes Jai, he collapses to the ground.

Sanjana screams, "Jai!" and rushes to him, falling to her knees and cradling his head in her lap. Tears stream down her face as she cries out, "Jai, open your eyes! Please, Jai!"

Wiping her tears away with trembling hands, she hurriedly pulls out her phone from her purse and dials 102. Within minutes, an ambulance arrives. Two ward boys place Jai on a stretcher and carry him into the ambulance. Sanjana and the mute girl climb in with him.

At the hospital…

Jai is immediately taken into the emergency room, where doctors begin treating his wound. A short while later, the door to the ER opens, and a doctor steps out, pulling down his mask.

Seeing him, Sanjana rushes forward. "Doctor! How is Jai? Is he okay? Please tell me he's alright!"

The doctor reassures her gently, "There's nothing to worry about. He's stable, and thankfully there's no internal injury. We'll shift him to the general ward soon."

A wave of relief washes over Sanjana as the doctor walks away.

Jai is soon moved to a normal ward. He lies unconscious on the bed. Sanjana slowly opens the door, walks in quietly, and sits on the chair beside his bed. She gently takes his hand in hers, tears falling from her eyes onto his hand.

Suddenly, Jai's eyes flutter open.

Seeing her in tears, he speaks weakly, "Why are you crying, Sanjana?"

She lifts her face, looks at him, and immediately breaks into sobs, hugging him gently.

Through her tears, she says, "Jai, do you have any idea how scared I was? What if something had happened to you? I would've died inside... without ever telling you how much I love you. I love you, Jai... I really do!"

Jai stares at her in stunned silence, a mix of shock and joy in his eyes.

"Is that true, Sanjana?" he whispers.

She nods tearfully in response.

Gathering courage, Jai asks, "Then... would you be willing to marry me?"

Just then, Sanjana's phone starts vibrating inside her purse. She pulls away, takes it out, and hands it to Jai, saying,

"Here, it's your phone. Someone named Aman has been calling nonstop."

She places the phone in his hand and walks out of the ward.

Jai answers, "Hello Aman, what's up?"

Aman replies, "I've been calling you for ages! Why weren't you picking up?"

Jai says calmly, "It's nothing. Just a minor injury... I'm at the hospital."

"What? An injury? When? How? Are you okay?" Aman's voice is filled with concern.

"I'm fine, bro. Nothing serious. Don't worry—and please don't tell Dad, or he'll panic."

They talk briefly about business, and then the call ends.

One week later at the hospital…

The doctor checks Jai's vitals and turns to Sanjana. "Miss Sanjana, he's fine now. You can take him home."

Sanjana beams, "Really, doctor?"

"Yes," the doctor smiles. "Just keep the wound dry until it heals completely. I'll write down some medicines that'll help the scar fade faster."

He hands her the prescription, and she begins the discharge formalities.

As they leave the hospital, Sanjana says, "Jai, I've never even seen your house before..."

Just then, two men pull up on a bike and greet Jai with a slight bow. "Good morning, sir—"

Jai shoots them a sharp look, and they quickly correct themselves.

"I mean, Jai! We're here to take you home."

Turning to Sanjana, they say, "Namaste, Bhabhi ji! We're Jai's friends."

Sanjana is left stunned at the word Bhabhi.

Jai smiles, waves her goodbye, and hops on the bike with them. A short while later, they transfer him into a car parked a little farther away.

Sanjana stands there, still processing what just happened.

"Bhabhi ji...?" echoes in her mind.

Suddenly, a voice behind her says, "Excuse me, madam."

Snapping out of her thoughts, Sanjana turns, nods slightly, and walks away.

Time passes...

One day, while talking on the phone, Jai asks Sanjana,

"Sanjana, that day in the hospital... what you said to me—was it true? Or did you say it just to make me feel better?"

Sanjana replies softly, "Jai, everything I said that day came from the heart. I wasn't just saying it for your sake—I truly love you."

Jai pauses and says with a teasing tone,

"You remember I asked you something that day?"

Playing coy, Sanjana responds, "What did you ask, Jai?"

Jai grins and says, "I'm thinking of saying yes."

Sanjana, now confused and surprised, asks, "Yes? Yes to what?"

Blushing, Jai says, "Well... the day I proposed to you, you got mad at me and didn't come to college for a week. So... Sheela confessed her love to me and even proposed marriage. Yesterday, she called again to ask if I'd decided..."
