Chapter 3 - The Pact

A pact that ensures I really can't leave her behind no matter what, is that really something I should accept? I've already been stuck for a long time but to become her personal guard like that is something I didn't think about.

"Why would you want to make a pact with me? I'm sure there are plenty of strong people here." I respond with a bit of curiosity in my voice.

She continues to look through the book before speaking. "I don't think I'll give you the answer to that question just yet." She says with a slight smirk on her face.

Amelia appeared to be the kindest one of the family here so I wanted to trust her but what if I'm mistaken about it? It wouldn't really matter if I was wrong though.

"I'll make a pact with you." I respond while kneeling down once more.

A smile grew wider on her face as she heard my answer, not that it really changed much about what was happening here. She probably knew I was going to accept it since there isn't really much going for me here.

She extends her hand towards him and draws a blade. "I will cut your arm and it will drop onto the symbols here, I'll then do the same for myself. This pact will then be official, you will protect me at all costs till the pact is abolished by me or if you die during the course of it. From here on out you will no longer do anything outside, you will be by my side." Amelia explains.

He extends his arm out for her and she cuts it without a second to waste. Drip. Drip. Blood began to drip onto the symbols that were formed on the ground.

"I'll now do the same thing." Amelia speaks once more.

Her part of the pact was basically giving me freedom from the outside of the house and to bring me inside.

Lights began to flash in the room as the blood started to merge together to bind the pact between them. Yori could feel pain in his body briefly as it gave him a reminder that he could not break the pact no matter what.

But as it started to finish up, large explosions could be heard from outside, a long with screaming. Something was happening outside and people were definitely fighting.

The timing of this couldn't be any worse for me but now I have no choice but to protect her from any sort of danger. Amelia was my number one priority, but I couldn't just leave my family to die outside either.

"I need a sword." I say with a more serious tone in my voice.

The mirror behind her revealed his appearance in the world itself. He was about the same as he looked when he was younger in the previous life.

Tattered clothes, short black hair with some spikiness in it, dark blue eyes, and some chains around his arms. A few scars from a few cuts he got fighting the monsters outside.

Amelia quickly grabbed a sword out from her closet as he took his eyes away from the mirror. "Here you go." She hands the sword towards him.

He took the sword and gestures for he her to follow him as he runs out of the room. Bodies were already in the corridor, whoever was here made sure that no one survived.

But this wasn't the time for him to stand there idle, he took her hand and began to run down the corridor. People were here to kill everyone and this wasn't something that he was going to let happen to her.

I don't know what to believe in yet since this world has a lot to show me but right now I know that I've got to protect Amelia. I've also got to find my mom and dad since they are my family.

"Amelia I want to at least make sure my parents are okay. I'll keep you safe but I need to make sure of that." I say with a bit of concern in my voice.

Dad is a good fighter but I've got no clue who the threat is or what they are capable of. She's probably concerned about her family as well so I'll probably have to go towards hers first.

A bit of fear could be heard in her voice but she still manages to speak. "We can go find them but we need to find my family too." Amelia agrees while staying close to me.

I knew that everything was bound to be bad, especially if the scene before us in the hallways was this bad already. I don't know what I'll see when I make it back to mom and dad.

Artemis's heart raced as he ran out of the main building with Amelia into the open space. He had made his way over to the spot that his father was last seen working. The vibrant greens of the grass were tainted with the deep crimson of blood, a grotesque reminder of the violence that had erupted moments before. He could barely process the scene, his father's lifeless body sprawled on the ground, eyes vacant, forever silenced.

Beside him, Amelia gasped, her hand flying to her mouth, but Artemis barely registered her presence. His focus was locked on the figure standing over his father, a man clad in dark armor, the glint of his sword catching the light like a malevolent star. The air crackled with tension, the unspoken challenge hanging.

"It seems there were some survivors after all. You guys made it out of the house? I can't believe they missed you." The Man speaks with a bit of shock in his tone.

My dad was dead, the man that I grew up with in this world, the one who actually treated me like a son. He taught me everything I know and now he's gone.

It didn't take me long to realize that moms body wasn't far from his and was just as bloody. Both of my parents were dead and I can imagine that Amelia's family didn't survive the slaughter either.

I've never killed anyone before, not a single soul has been taken from me, but today might be different.

"Artemis you have to protect me... Please don't let him kill me..." Amelia begs as she grabs hold of his arm.

The Pact, yes it's the one thing I have to obey now huh.

I'm just a slave who has to protect it's master, I'll never be a hero or even someone who can make a difference in this world.
