Feeling anxious, Alexander walked up to Kara and asked, "Why are you out here all by yourself, and where is that boyfriend of yours?"
Kara stared at him for a while before walking away. Alexander followed, his heart filled with questions. He held her arm and repeated, "Why are you out here all alone, and where is that boyfriend of yours?"
Kara's response was calm and direct. "With your girlfriend."
Alexander's eyes widened in shock. "What did you just say?" he asked, pulling her back.
Kara pushed his hands away. "You heard me right."
Alexander's mind reeled as he muttered, "Who is my girlfriend?" Coming back to reality, he saw Kara walking away and chased after her.
Finally, he caught up with her and grabbed her arm, pulling her into his arms. "What do you mean by Anthony is with my girlfriend? Aren't you my girlfriend?"
Kara tilted her head back, shock written all over her face. "What do you mean by 'I'm your girlfriend'? I was talking about Celine. Anthony is with Celine."
A faint smile crossed her lips as she shook her head. "What an irony. I thought I was the only one for him, but when his ex came back, he ran to her and left me in the dark."
"Let go, Alex," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I need to get to a hotel before it gets very dark."
Alexander's grip on her arm loosened, but he didn't let go. "Come with me," he said. "I won't hurt you. I promise."
Kara reluctantly followed him, and he took her to a hotel. "You can stay here for now, Kara," he said before walking out.
Kara's facade crumbled, and she wept. She couldn't believe Anthony had left her for Celine. Exhaustion eventually crept in, and she fell asleep on the floor.
Unbeknownst to Kara, Alexander stood outside, listening to her cries. His anger grew toward Celine and Anthony for making Kara suffer. "Get me Celine and Anthony by morning," he told his assistant.
When Alexander entered the room, he found Kara on the floor. His heart ached as he crouched down and stroked her hair. "Sorry I'm late," he whispered. "I'll set things right."
He gently picked her up and placed her on the bed before walking out. But he didn't hear Kara's faint whisper: "Alex, Alex, why did you leave me?"
