Chapter 16 - Nux's Anticipation

"Any last words?" Arthur ignored the thorn for the moment and looked the last survivor, or elf. It was his first time seeing one and wanted to satisfy some curiosities.

Trisha broke out of her reverie and couldn't help but say the most cliché line in every novel " P-Please don't kill me. It wasn't my choice at how things turned out."

"Of course it wasn't. You think anyone will choose to die?" Arthur pulled the dagger out from the corpse and watched it drop like a puppet without strings.

Trisha realized anything she'll say will only sound as a cheap excuse. She wanted to live, not for herself but for Eva, she didn't want to leave her alone, not until that demon is dead. In pure desperation she did the only thing she can think of, selling her body, he is a man after all.

But to her surprise, he didn't accept, he was....disappointed.

That look, that disappointment on his face irked her, Was she not pretty? Was she not beautiful enough? Wait, was he gay? That could explain that look.

Arthur couldn't be bothered by her thoughts, instead he was looking at her status. He had no intention of killing her anyway, well, until she gave him a reason to. She was the first non-human he saw after all.

Just as Trisha got ready to accept her fate, she saw him stepping away from her and turning away. At first, she thought he was going to leave and sighed in relief, only to see him scavenging the corpses. That made sense actually.

Arthur on the other hand was observing her, the way she didn't look bothered by him killing and looting spoke volumes. It looked like she had killed people before, better to be on guard.

He started asking random questions to her, subtly probing here and their. he noted that although she saw death up close, she never killed one.

[The fuck? I though you were going to have an intellectual battle here, you know, like those CIA stuff. Hell, even those dumb guy playing smart novels at least make it look grand! But you directly asked her!] Nux was flabbergasted by his straightforwardness.

'Do you think I have the brain power to play detective right now? After your games? But that's not important, why the hell I don't gain any experience points when I kill the corrupted like them?' Arthur scoffed internally, the audacity of this bastard!

[....Oh, that's because of their negative levels. Once they reach 00 they too will not gain any experience killing the corrupted.] Nux replied in a sheepish tone. It was really his mistake there, but does he regret it? Hell no!

Arthur meanwhile switched his sword with the trans person and put his in the sack secretly. He didn't know that they knew about this feature but he sure as hell won't tell that.

After he was done, he walked towards the girl, or Trisha, as she called herself and told her to lead him to the camp. But before that he closed the distance, put his arm around her waist, tilted her chin towards him and kissed her, to make a statement.

Trisha pushed him instinctively but clearly lacked the strength, she wanted to bust his balls but resisted the urge. She didn't had the strength to deal with the fallout after that, yet, thus she stopped struggling. after a few seconds Arthur broke the kiss and whispered in her ears softly,

"I'm not gay. It's just that I am not the kind who r***'s women. You are beautiful I'll give you that. Therefore next time we will continue from here." He tapped her cheeks and moved away, looking straight in her eyes.

Trisha was at a loss for words, she didn't know where to begin. Sure, her face was flushed, sure, she was embarrassed and a bit confused but it didn't last long. Soon anger replaced her feelings when she saw his amused eyes, still she didn't do anything. What could she eve do? Lash out at him? The last person who did joined Zahar.

"What are you staring at? Come on, move along." Arthur nudged her, he wasn't amused at her reactions, but at what Nux told him.

Soon she took him towards the camp, not uttering a single word to him as a form of protest. Too bad for her, Arthur enjoyed the peace. It's about time to check-in in the camp. He was hoping he didn't have to kill anyone there and was excited to find another non-human race.

[With a face like yours with a beauty like her? Fat chance.] Nux was anticipating another drama to unfold. What will be? Lovestruck fools trying to score brownie points? Or envious idiots making things harder and being bitch-slapped? Whatever was going to happen he will be the best commentator for Arthur that's for sure.

'Nah, I'd find a corner and sleep thank you.'
