Cherreads

Chapter 19 - Night in the Cemetery 2

There were moss running over the stones and rats scurrying around. But what the scaring part, there were no rats, only their shadow.

Arthur was shocked for the first time from the moment he came to this world. Now he understood what 'survival' means. The things here that pose danger are not materialistic but the ones that cannot be seen without light or intangible ones.

'How the fuck am I suppose to handle those!?' Arthur screamed internally. He wanted answers but the damn Nux is not responding!

He took deep breaths, trying to calm down, the situation was getting dangerous here. He checked the surroundings to find or see any dangers lurking in the corners. After making sure of the situation, he did what any hot blooded American in the horror movie would do....Poke the most dangerous thing in the room, in his case, the stone coffin.

He slowly made his way towards the coffin and tried to remove its lid. He stopped when the lid was half way open to peek-a-boo the thing inside. What he found inside made his skin crawl.

There was nothing inside. Only a pitch black darkness that does not go away even with the torch. He tried to see the bottom of the coffin by throwing a spare torch inside but to hi surprise, nothing happened. The torch stopped halfway with a crisp sound of hitting the floor but from the outside, it looked more like the torch was levitating.

He then tried to remove the torch but stopped half way. He had goosebumps all over his body, Cold sweat trickling down his neck, it felt as if someone was staring at him. With fear taking over, he quickly closed the lid and walked straight to the corner he came from.

Just as he moved his head, he stopped on the spot. Clearly terrified now. Because what he saw was something that will give nightmare even to him, or more like something the can't see.

At the exact wall where Arthur was a few minutes ago hung a shadow of something humanoid on the shackles just few centimeters above him!

Alive! Moving. Thrashing.

Looking at it's visitor that entered its chamber unannounced. Yet it made no sounds as if it didn't exist. It was trying to free itself, but the chains did not budge. It was bizarre to see a tangible object to hold an intangible monster.

Arthur was dazed for a few moments, fear taking root over him. He clearly wished to leave this place. Just because he can't listen doesn't mean the things similar to...whatever that was can't either.

With that firmness or desperation, he walked to the door, praying it to not be locked. Fortunately it wasn't and moved out leaving this horrific place. Just as he closed the door, a shar metallic click sound reverberated in the space. It was the door locking itself, but in this eerie dark place where no sound could be heard, it more sounded like a death knell.

Not wishing to stay in one place, Arthur moved in the long corridor. In the pitch black darkness with only his torch in hand, he didn't know if the light made his presence known or not, He clearly didn't want to paint a bigger target on himself but he needed the torch, without it, he wouldn't even know how he died.

Soon he found the end of the corridor and just as he reached it he heard a growling noise. A primal, guttural roar trying to contain it self.

'That sounds more like regenerator from resident evil. good thing it is blind here or it might saw me miles ago.'

Arthur didn't dilly dally, he turned around and walked in opposite direction, hid behind a pillar and a pot and...tossed a stone in the corridor, wanted to see if it really was one or not. For this plan he even put off the torch and chugged the invisibility potion. One hand at the Bastard sword he switched back when he was conversing with Nux.

Speaking of the devil, he still wasn't responding for some reason.

'If it turned out another way to mess with me...' Arthur didn't had time to complete the cursing when he heard he monster coming closer.

It was getting too close to him, with its constant growling sound, it felt cold, chilly, as if death was creeping closer and he could feel his whole body getting cold like a cadaver.

With each heavy step, it felt as if huge gongs of marriage echoing around, only if the gong does not represent happiness but instead death and misfortune. Like a reaper coming to reap your life and he knew exactly where you are with all your dark secrets laid bare in front of it.

Just as it came right in front of him several cliché thoughts cross his mind, but he soon dismissed them. He didn't had time for stuff like that, and what if this thing read his mid and stop in front of him?
