Every trace of amusement vanished from Ian's face as he sat up, steepling his fingers.
"I said I was done with Diana, that didn't mean I wasn't going to protect her."
"I don't understand."
Killia scratched his head.
"Being done with someone means their problems aren't your business anymore, you know?"
"Eh." Ian shrugged. "She's my mate. Whether I'm done with her or not, she still belongs to me. What kind of an alpha would I be if I can't even protect the woman that is mine?"
Killian furrowed his brows. "So let me get this straight. You still want her?"
"That's… That could be debated," Ian pointed out, humming. "I am indeed done with her, yes, but the rejection? That's pending. For now. When I'm done giving her the help she needs, then I'll approve of it."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"I don't believe you."
He cocked a brow. "I don't need you to. Who do you think you are?"
