Chapter 212 - Chapter 212 : Trap Set

Obito appeared in a swirl of space just outside the broken tower of Amigakure. His body was bruised and drained from the fight with Kakashi and Jugo. Now he was sure that someone knew everything about his powers to the degree that they were targeting him. In fact, he was suspicious that this organization targeting Akatsuki was behind it.

It was hard to get out of there. He had to sacrifice one of his Sharingan to escape alive. Kakashi wasn't letting him go, even after being completely shaken upon seeing his face. And more than that, there was Itachi. Obito never believed in him. And for good reason.

However, the moment he came back, all that vanished upon seeing the condition of the base. Not to mention what he saw almost gave him a heart attack.

Nagato was down.

The once powerful wielder of the Rinnegan lay unconscious, defeated. Over him stood a masked shinobi dressed in black. On top of his head was some kind of object—like a wheel—but again, he didn't care.

The masked shinobi was Shika, of course.

And in Shika's hand was one of Nagato's Rinnegan eyes. The second eye was already sealed in a scroll by his side.

"No!" Obito all but shouted, his voice full of rage and disbelief. The Rinnegan was the source of all their plans. Without them, pulling off their goals was impossible. He forgot his injuries, forgot his exhaustion. He charged forward, as fast as he could.

Shika didn't even look surprised. He calmly slid the first Rinnegan into a sealed container and tucked it away. "Welcome. It's about time we met in person, Obito Uchiha," Shika said, but Obito didn't care.

He didn't care how that shinobi knew him. All he cared about was the Rinnegan.

Obito swung his kunai, aiming for Shika's throat. But Shika moved instantly, intercepting the strike with his sword. The sword clashed with Obito's weapon, sending a powerful shockwave.

Obito gritted his teeth. "I won't let you take those eyes!"

He vanished, slipping into his Kamui space to avoid the next strike. But Shika didn't care. The moment Obito reappeared behind him, Shika tried to hit him again—of course, failed, as Kamui activated. However, again, Shika didn't care. He kept on attacking. The only thing he ensured was to keep his distance from a sneak attack by Obito.

"You can't touch me," Obito said calmly. "Your attacks are useless."

Shika didn't answer. He rushed forward, his movements sharp and precise. He threw kunai, followed by explosive tags, and slashed with a chakra blade—all aimed at Obito. But every single attack passed right through him as he phased using Kamui.

Obito countered, appearing behind Shika and swinging a kunai. Shika barely dodged, sliding under the attack and flipping back. He created distance again, buying time.

His goal wasn't to defeat Obito now. It was to let Mahoraga's wheel adapt.

A very useful way to use Mahoraga's adaptability was to use the wheel himself, and once it adapted to the enemy, let Mahoraga take action. And that's exactly what he planned to do.

Obito attacked again and again. Sometimes phasing, sometimes appearing suddenly and striking. Shika kept up, dodging skillfully, using his own jutsu only when necessary. A couple of times, Obito's attacks nearly landed, but Shika activated his Temporal Revine technique, rewinding a few seconds of time to escape the blow.

Each second mattered. Each failed attack gave the wheel above him more information, making it spin.

Shika leaped forward once more, this time trying a feint. He slashed from the left, then switched to a kick from the right. Obito phased. Again. Shika jumped back without frustration. His breathing was steady.

Obito frowned. "You're wasting your time. You can't even touch me. There's no way you can win."

"Nah…," Shika finally said. "I'll adapt."

Obito didn't understand, but he saw the wheel above Shika's head spin faster and faster. And then suddenly, Shika felt something—a tug on his curse energy.

Before he could even know it, Mahoraga came out of his shadow, directly targeting Obito.

Things happened so fast that even Shika was surprised. Obito, though, simply used his Kamui—he didn't care about any sneak attack with Kamui.

However, this time his Kamui didn't work. Mahoraga's sword directly pierced Obito's entire body, making his eyes widen to the extreme.

"What…" Obito was so surprised at this that he didn't even register the blood coming to his mouth or the pain.

"Got ya." Shika, who was surprised as well, didn't waste time and directly took advantage of this unexpected attack from his Shikigami. He plunged his finger into Obito's eye socket and pulled his single Mangekyo eye out.

"Haaaa…" A howl of pain rang out. When he did that.

"Told ya, I'd adapt," Shika replied and was about to order Mahoraga to take care of the lover boy here when suddenly he felt something.

A dark mass suddenly shot out from the ground and wrapped tightly around him. It was Black Zetsu.

"Seems like your jutsu is not that unbreakable, Obito," Zetsu whispered with a grin. "Hurry up, get out of there."

Zetsu's black body clung to Shika, covering him like living tar. His goal was clear—steal the scroll that held Nagato's Rinnegan and stop Shika from using Mahoraga. Zetsu was sure Mahoraga wouldn't attack Shika while he was being held.

But Shika didn't look panicked.

In fact, he smirked.

"I was expecting you," Shika said calmly.

Zetsu paused. "What?"

"Finally got you, you son of a bitch."

Then, everything started to change. The air grew heavy. The sky above them dimmed. The ground beneath them trembled. Shadows stretched unnaturally far and wide. A deep pressure filled the area, like the calm before a storm.

"Domain Expansion…"

Zetsu's smile dropped seeing this. He felt danger. He wanted to get out of there. But Rinnegan.

Little did he know that it was already too late.

"Chimera Shadow Garden."

"What… is this?" Zetsu muttered when suddenly the man he was holding melted into shadows, and there was left nothing but darkness around him.

"Welcome to my domain, Black Zetsu."

"What is this?" Zetsu just wished to run away, but his abilities weren't working. He couldn't get out of there, nor could he phase through materials.

Needless to say, he panicked—for the first time in his life. Big time.

"Mahoraga, do this world a favor and kill this sorry excuse of a symbiotic once and for all." Shika wasn't interested in playing hero.

His plan had been fulfilled. He trapped Black Zetsu in his domain so he couldn't run, and he also had Mahoraga here.

And then Mahoraga started pounding Black Zetsu repeatedly. The first few attacks didn't work, but slowly, just like always, he adapted.

"Ahaaaa." The first howl of pain from Black Zetsu left Shika grinning ear to ear.

"Ah, fucking finally."
