My breath caught in my throat as I didn't see Megan at the table. I look under the table and sigh in relief when I see her there. I pull her out and hold her as she cries.
"Thank the goddess. If something happened to you, I would have brought you back and killed you myself,"
she shakes in my arms and I hold her tighter. Megan is strong and a good fighter, she just can not handle explosions. She lost her brother in a bombing and it brings out all those old memories.
I flip the chair with my foot as I hold on to her. Thankfully, I know how to use more than just my hands. I remember a time when I had to hold two babies and make food whilst my mom and dad-.
My thoughts drift off and I press my memories of those times down. I hand Megan a bottle of wine and kiss her forehead,
"You are okay, you made it through it and you are safe now. I'm always here to protect you."
I flush as I remember I wasn't there. I was dancing with Mr. Sexy pants and I did not protect her. She had to protect herself. Guilt fills my soul and I dig my nails into my palms. I will do better next time. I was selfish and it almost cost me my best friend.
As soon as I saw she was all right, I turned and looked around.7 rogues and they were all coming for me. What the hell do they want with me?
"Of Course you're here,"
I smile as I hear Georgie's voice over the ringing in my ears,
"Hello Georgie,"
he looked me over and ran his powers over my ear into my ear drums. I laugh at the tingling sensation and then he hugs me.
"Ready?"
I ask him as I pull away and he calls over another healer I have worked with before. I prefer it when they send me people I have worked with previously. I can be a little overwhelming sometimes. I place my hands on their necks as they kneel next to me and I amplify their powers so that they can heal the injured pack members.
"I keep forgetting what a rush that is,"
the other healer says and I smile. No wonder my power feels like a rush to them. My mother shot up so much when she was pregnant with me. It's only natural that my power will give people a rush, too.
We move from person to person, healing broken arms, head injuries and even a male with a piece of metal in his stomach. That one took a little more concentration, so Georgie and I worked on him alone.
"Bella!"
I hear my name in a very panicked voice. I look up and see it's my alpha, so I lower my head again,
"Please, please come and help me,"
the worry and panic in his voice are crippling and I immediately follow him.
Right before I run outside, I glance at Megan and see that she is still sitting in the same spot. She gives me a small smile and salutes me with her wine bottle and then she is out of my line of sight.
Goosebumps cover my entire body the moment I come outside and see the devastation. My wolf bristles inside me and I soothe her as best I can with the sight before me. Cars were flipped over or on their sides, people were lying everywhere, and pieces of the pack house were scattered in the street. It looks like a war zone, and I breathe slowly, trying to keep my dinner inside.
"Over here,"
my alpha says. Leo's power is brute strength and he is strong, but my eyes widen when I see the piece of a building on the car in front of me and my mouth actually pops open. I see it's on top of a car and hear someone breathing inside. I look around for more people to help. I spot the man from the ball and he is ripping car doors open and helping people out.
"Please, Bella,"
my alpha snapped me back to reality as he ripped his shirt off and I nodded. I place my hands on his back and feel he is nearly drained,
"This will hurt,"
I warn him and he swings around before he grips my face,
"even if this kills me. I have to save them,"
I nod and he turns before gripping the rock with both hands.
I push my power into him, hard and fast, to give him the boost he needs to get that rock up off the ground. My entire body shakes and a scream rips through me that turns into a growl as I force all of my powers into him.
He throws the rock to the side and my vision darkens as my knees give in under me. He caught me and helped me to sit against the car,
"I'm fine, I'm fine…"
I say and hold onto my head.
I was not fine. I have not felt this drained in years, and I know the next week will require me to sleep a lot as I fully recuperate my powers. He moves back to the car and I watch as he rips the door open and pulls out my Luna.
Tears burned my eyes. My Luna almost died in there. I watch as the man with the scar runs over to me, "go and get Georgie. He is inside," my alpha said and the man nods and I drift in and out of consciousness as my body works in overdrive to restore my powers.
Arms around my neck, snaps me back to reality for a few seconds before I hear my Luna,
"Thank you, Bella, thank you."
a silent tear runs down my cheek and my alpha pulls her away. He holds onto her like she is the only real thing in existence. My mind drifts off as I contemplate the things I will never have, and I struggle to find peace with that reality. I don't know how to process this pain.
I close my eyes again, and a snapping sound pulls me back,
"A full 15 minutes, girl. You really overdid it this time,"
I hear Georgie scold me and I smile.
Something wet is on my lips and I smack it away,
"let me just clean up the blood, Bella,"
I nod and let Georgie do his work,
"just another 15 minutes. Please, Georgie,"
A strong hand grips mine and I know it must be my alpha,
"you should be with your Luna… alpha…"
I try to say as I drift into the darkness again.
Georgie woke me again and I feel so much better,
"20 minutes, Bella. That's all I could give you."
I smile as he helps me up slowly. My head spins a little and he steadies me.
Taking a moment to get my bearings, I see the big gaping hole in the wall and make my way over there. I need to get Megan home so I can sleep.
I make my way back into the ballroom and I can see the damage now. When I was in it, it was like my mind could not absorb anything except what was most pressing.
I scan the room and see my alpha and 'Scarface' arguing about something. I want to ask if everything is okay, but then I spot Megan and I approach her.
"Let's get you home,"
I say and pull her to her feet,
"you look like shit,"
"well, thank you. It has always been my life mission to look like shit. I could always make you fall,"
I say with a wicked little smirk,
"You are so mean when you are tired,"
she says playfully,
"and still you love me and tell me I look like shit."
As we walk out, I see my alpha and the scarred man still arguing, and they stop the moment they see us,
"I'll send you my dry cleaning bill,"
I say to my alpha as we walk past him.
"You ripped your dress. No amount of washing will fix that, but I'll buy you another one,"
I smile and nod as we try to navigate the rubble,
"Wait, Bella, let Jeff take you girls home,"
"Nope, I got it. Thank you,"
I say and wave him off.
To be honest, I did not have it because I don't know how we got home, but here I find myself now in front of the closet helping Megan get dressed, and apparently, we both have showered.
It's 3 am by the time we get into bed and I sigh in relief as the clean bedding envelopes my sore body. Sleep did not stay away and I was so thankful as I drifted off into its welcoming arms.
