I take a seat at one of the chairs against the wall. I grin smugly as all the people around me take off and Adam and Toney come and sit on my right side.
My eyes sweep over the room again. I have to pick a mate and this is the best they have to offer me? My eyes land on the girl in the red dress again. Why doesn't your alpha want me to pick you, little one?
It seems like it doesn't matter what I do. I can not keep my eyes off her and she doesn't even notice me. Not once has she even glanced at me.
I watch the girl as she walks around with her friend. She looks like she wants to run away rather than stay here, but maybe that is just hopeful thinking on my side. I look at my hands again as I think about how I would love to chase her down and pin her under-.
My wolf interrupts my thoughts, jumping up so fast it startles me back to reality. I look up to see what he is so excited about, only to see her heading straight for me.
Dear moon goddess. Her scent wrapped around me and calmed my wolf immediately. She takes the only open seat that happens to be right next to me and I smile on the inside and then she starts to talk to me.
Eat shit, Alpha Leo, because she is speaking to me and now I have her. As she talks to me, I realize she is actually funny and not the least bit scared of me.
That shocks me the most. Does she not know who I am? How are there people out there who don't know the scary stories about Alpha Max?
I want to tell her that I don't think her feet stink and her scent is intoxicating, just like her beauty, but I keep that to myself. There's no need to scare the female off already. Then she shocks me utterly with her next words, "I don't want a mate,"
Why doesn't she want a mate? What happened to her that she does not want a mate? Did a male hurt her and that is why she doesn't want a mate?
I feel my skin tighten as a burning sensation starts in my chest. If someone hurt her, I would gladly become the thing of nightmares and be the villain they all believe me to be.
I try to keep control of my wolf as she starts to look around and notice people staring at us. She must be used to people staring at her if she only notices them now. They have been staring since she sat down. Her friend is one of them, although she is now a couple of shades paler than when she walked in here.
She leans over and I try not to inhale too deeply as her hair tickles my clenched hands on my thighs. I just smile as she tells me her feet actually stink. I have never tried so hard to keep a conversation going. I'm not a talker. I smirk and I growl. That is how I communicate.
I watch as she gets dragged off by her friend and her friend goes from shock to concern so fast as my new little mate smiles. She must be teasing her. She seems like someone who likes to tease people.
Dinner was highly entertaining when Alpha Leo kept telling me I could not take her. She was not available. She will not make a suitable Luna for my pack. As soon as I saw she finished eating, I approached her, leaving Leo to spew his nonsense to someone who cared.
The entire table froze when I came to stand just behind her chair. She was obviously unaware of me standing there. It's so strange that she doesn't see me as a threat or at least feel my alpha presence over her. Most shifters notice the change in a room the moment an alpha walks in.
I asked her to dance, and she, of course, said yes because she apparently didn't have a clue who I was, and her friend must not have warned her. The moment her hand touches mine, I feel the tingles, and my entire body wants to combust, but as I look down at her, she has no expression that tells me she feels the same. Her skin has no goosebumps and she is just as calm and collected as before.
She must be my mate. I've been having all the effects they tell you about since you're a pup, yet here I am, standing right in front of her and nothing. Am I losing my mind?
I try to calm my racing heart and my wolf, who is going wild, as goosebumps cover my entire body. My dick threatens to rip my pants apart and I don't understand how she is not feeling it. I can smell arousal on her and that doesn't help my situation, but something is missing in her scent. Is that why she doesn't feel the bond, or am I just bewitched?
She stands as I pull her up gently and fuck me. She is small. Her head barely reaches my chest and I know she has those ridiculous shoes on that make her taller than she actually is. She places one hand on my shoulder and I pull her a little closer before I put my hand on her back. Please don't let my dick poke her. I chant in my mind over and over again and I just need to feel her closer to me.
We started to dance and her friend was correct, she knew how to dance. She is a better dancer than me. I lead her easily over the dance floor and she follows my lead like we have done this a thousand times before.
"How do your feet feel?"
I ask, just so I can hear her voice again,
"I think there is a kill order out on them and the shoes took the mission,"
I tried to keep my laugh in, but it was futile. The moment the words left her mouth, it was over.
My chest rumbles under her hand and I honestly cannot remember the last time I laughed at something funny. Now, a sarcastic laugh, that I was a pro in, but an honest-to-goodness laugh. I sigh as I try to get control of myself.
The song ends, and she returns to the table, but I am not ready to let her go yet,
"Another one?"
I ask her and my heart stops as I wait for her answer. She looks around and then nods. I look over my shoulder and see the twins are with her friend. None of them said anything. Just sitting there watching us.
"People are staring again,"
I looked around and saw that they were staring at us again. I hadn't even noticed this time,
"And?"
I asked her,
"Doesn't it irritate you?"
Her words bring a smile to my face. Not, 'doesn't it bother you' or 'make you uncomfortable'? No, she wanted to know if it irritates me.
"I don't notice it anymore. People will watch and stare and whisper, but it doesn't change a thing,"
she snorted and then blushed,
"sorry, that wasn't very ladylike,"
I just smile down at this female who keeps getting better and better. The way she intrigues me and fascinates me. She speaks her mind and I can not wait to see what else she has up her sleeve.
Someone clears their throat next to us and I have to suppress my growl at the interruption. I force myself to look away from her and see Alpha Leo,
"what?"
I ask through clenched teeth,
"I would like this dance,"
I narrow my eyes on him as she steps out of my arms,
"of course, Alpha,"
she said politely. I step aside while I remind myself that I have to allow this. This is not my pack and by this time tomorrow, she will be in my pack lands. I watch Leo sweep her over the dancefloor. She is a fantastic dancer. She doesn't miss a step as they go, and he dances fast. Her feet easily keep up with him.
The song ends and my legs could not carry me fast enough. She bow her head and turns, I wrap my arm around her waist,
"Last one, my feet are really killing me,"
she says with a smile. I want to pick her up and carry her to her chair, where I can take her shoes off and rub her feet till they feel better. Although that will be wildly inappropriate, it will most definitely make her run then.
"I heard the kill order was revoked, so the shoes need to be removed,"
she chuckled, making my wolf lie on his back. His tongue hangs out of his mouth because he wants her to rub his belly. How fucking embarrassing.
'What the hell is wrong with you?' I scold him, but he just keeps on behaving like a damn fool. 'We need to impress her, not look like pups on the playground.'
All of a sudden, she stopped, and I felt her stiffen. Did I step on her toe? Or did I just say all of that aloud?
She pears around my arm and I hear something break. My wolf jumps up right before I hear Leo growl a warning call. Her hands drop from my arm and hand and I know she is about to run. I can feel it in my soul.
"Bomb!"
someone shouts. As soon as I hear those words, I have her on the floor and she is under me. She is so tiny I cover her entire body with mine.
The bomb explodes and my entire body vibrates and shakes as I absorb the blast so that she doesn't feel the brunt of it. She coughs and moans as she tries to get out from under me. Has she lost her mind?
She ripped the mask off and my entire world stopped spinning when I saw her face. She is breathtakingly beautiful. I see blood running from her ears and I know she has enhanced hearing. There is no way she should have been bleeding with me taking the brunt of the impact from the bomb.
I have my alpha power, my goddess-given power, and then after my eye was damaged, I got enhanced smelling. It's like nature balances things out again. Now, it seems that she has an exceptional sense of hearing. I wonder if she has another power, most wolves do, but not all wolves.
She uses this moment that I'm distracted to push me off of her and then she is off—disappearing into the bloody smoke. I shift my eyes as soon as I get to my feet and see her walk towards the tables. No, she was most definitely stumbling more than walking.
I watch as she lifts a chair above her head and I think to myself, she must have hit her head. She breaks the chair on the floor in front of her. Then she picks up a leg and pokes herself with it on her finger.
Okay, maybe they had a point and I was losing my mind. No way could she be my mate or my Luna. A bomb just went off and she is over there breaking furniture - And now she is taking off her shoes - and is she? Jip, she is ripping a slit into her dress. She has most definitely lost her mind, or was it me losing mine?
I see her running, and then my body jumps into action. I see the seven pairs of glowing black eyes heading towards her. The rogues aren't even paying any attention to any of us. They're just focusing on her.
I ran straight to them. I will not allow them to get to my mate. Before I know it, she is next to me, pushing her chair leg into the rogue's neck next to me. I can not help but gawk at her.
She is killing rogues right and left. I snap the neck of the rogue in my hands and then she looks around. I noticed she did not shift her eyes and broke a chair to get a weapon, so does that mean she doesn't have a wolf?
That would make sense as to why her scent is off. She is missing the wolf part of her scent, but that doesn't explain why Leo doesn't want me to have her. I know some wolves disappear because of PTSD, but we saw that in wolves who went to war or when they lost their mates.
She stabs the last rogue while I'm looking at her like some idiot instead of helping her, but the way she moves is like flames dancing in the wind and I have never seen anything like it before. She is amazing!
I watched as she pulled something from under the table and then I saw her friend as she pulled her to her chest and held her there. She flipped a chair upright with her foot and helped her friend into it before handing her a bottle of wine to drink.
"Of course, you will be in the middle of the chaos. Where the hell else will you be?"
a young man her age asked. He walked right past me to her. She laughs and she hugs him. My hackles rise. 'I know, calm down, it irritates me as well,' I tell my wolf as he wants to rip that man's throat out.
The twins come to join me and the three of us watch as the young man and another man, a little older, kneel on either side of her with their backs to her,
"What the hell is going on?"
Toney asks and I shrug. She places her hands on their necks, and her eyes glow bright fucking blue. I stumble backwards into Adam.
"Alpha, people need help outside,"
Adam says as he studies me. I don't want to leave her, but I force my legs forward, running outside to help the people.
