I step into my house and my nose wrinkles at all the smells. The smoke, booze and mouldy food invade my nose. I chuckle when I look back and see my Alpha holding his hand over his mouth and nose,
"It's not even that bad today,"
he shook his head at me before he stepped over a male lying on the floor, still passed out. He followed me down the short hall to my bedroom.
"Bella? Is that you, honey?"
my mom asked,
"It's me, mom, sleep now. I'm just grabbing a few things."
She mumbled something that I could not understand and I tried to keep the pain out of my heart as I thought about what I was leaving behind. It might not be a lot, but this is my family.
I throw a few things into my bag and sigh as I slump on my bed.
"I am really sorry Bella, but this is to ensure the future of our packs. A war-free future,"
"I know, but it doesn't mean I have to like it."
My Alpha looks around my room at my cracked and fading pink walls and my very small, broken bed that is held up with bricks. I have a bedsheet for a curtain and the rug is frayed in more spots than not.
"I will miss it though. It wasn't the best place to grow up in, but it was still my home."
I said as I looked at my alpha who just smiled sadly at my words,
"That's how I know you will make a great Luna."
I snorted and then covered my mouth,
"Sorry,"
he shook his head,
"Just remember there is a reason why the alpha command doesn't work on you. There is a reason why your wolf is so volatile."
I frown at him. Has the chemist told him something? Does he know what I am?
"I think your wolf and you are alphas, she alphas."
I chuckle and shake my head,
"There is no such thing, Alpha. We're just broken. That's all."
He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes.
I walk to my mom's room and kiss her forehead,
"Love you, Mom,"
I whisper,
"Love you, baby,"
she says, squeezing my arm,
"Remember to make dinner before you leave,"
"I will, Mom,"
I say, and I wipe a tear off my cheek.
I make my way through the house but don't see my dad. I sigh, knowing he is still awake and drunk. I make my way outside over the bodies of passed-out people and I throw my bag at Max. He catches it easily and places it on the back of the truck. I grip my Alpha's arm and take a little of his power.
Rolling my shoulders, I turn the corner and see him,
"stay here,"
I tell my Alpha when I see my dad struggling to get to his feet.
"Dad, I'm leaving now,"
he turned and snorted,
"no, you still have chores,"
I shake my head because his words are slurred,
"I have to go. I have a mate,"
"over my dead body,"
he slurred and he stumbled towards me.
"You're only 15. Stop lying,"
here we go again. I step away from the house and the broken-down car.
If he explodes, I know I'll be fine. I can not say the same about the house and car. Slowly, I take steps back words as he stumbles over to me,
"I will not have this,"
he growled, trying to hit me. He stumbles past me and I shake my head and sweep my hand over his arm, taking some of his power.
"Stop stealing my powers, you little bitch,"
I press my lips into a thin line to hide my smile, but it's useless as I feel the corners still tilt-up,
"Dad, you need to go and lay down. Mom is looking for you."
I try to calm him in a gentle tone. He shook his head,
"No, she is at work. You're lying again."
He gripped my one hand and I saw the wind pick up. My hair whips loose from its braid as the tornado forms around us. All this power and it's wasted on him,
"Really, a tornado?"
I roll my eyes at the pure stupidity. Does he want to destroy the entire pack lands? I lift my hand and press it down, making the wind stop.
"Come on, old man."
I pull all of the air out of his lungs till he passes out and then I give it back to him as he slumps on me. I throw him over my shoulder and carry him inside. I hope no one can see my knees buckle a little as I readjust him on my back. My powers are drained and I'm tired. I don't need Max and the twins to see my weakness. Laying him down on the bed next to my mom, I kiss his forehead and smile when my mom wraps her arm around him.
We walk outside and my heart aches with every step,
"please send them some food once every two days,"
my Alpha nods,
"I'll send them food every day,"
"you know it will just rot away,"
He smiles and I climb into the truck,
"I'll send them food every day and maybe someone to fix the house again."
Max's guards look at me like I have two heads,
"what?"
I ask them,
"You grew up there?"
I smile and chuckle,
"I told you I was poor,"
the one shook his head,
"That's rough,"
I shrug,
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,"
my Alpha and I say at the same time.
I lay my head back and sigh,
"Are you okay?"
Max asks and the driver swerves the car,
"sorry, sorry,"
I cover my mouth to hide my smile.
"I'm fine. It was just hard to say goodbye,"
"you know they will not even notice you're not there?"
my Alpha asks,
"I know… That is what is making it so hard."
I fight to keep my tears inside. I can not cry in front of these strangers.
My Alpha placed a hand on my leg and Max growled. He lifted it quickly,
"just trying to comfort her,"
I see Max's finger twitching on his leg, but he doesn't move them to me,
"Thank you, Alpha. I really appreciate everything you have done for us,"
Max growled again,
"hay, he is my Alpha till I decide you're my Alpha. I might be forced to be your Mate and Luna. Still, I will choose my own damned Alpha,"
out of the corner of my eye I see my Alpha look out of the window and his shoulders shaking.
We pull up to Megan's house and she is standing outside with her bags. My Alpha climbs out and I look at Megan. At least she has stopped crying. I feel my anger build again and grip the door tightly, trying to breathe. The steel bent under my grip, but then Megan smiled, making me feel better. They can be glad they beat my wolf into submission before they told me about Megan.
I looked over at my Alpha,
"You did it like that for a reason, didn't you?"
he frowned and then I remembered he could not read my mind,
"You told me about Megan last, for a reason, didn't you,"
"Yes, I knew there was no stopping you if I threw that fuel on your fire,"
My Alpha looks over at Max while he bends the doorframe back,
"all the best of luck. I'll come and fetch her after she kills you all."
he says with all the venom in the world. He closed the door behind him and I watched him walk away,
"You were warned,"
I say before I climb out.
I pick up Megan's bags, but the guards take them from me,
"Thanks,"
I say sarcastically. I hug Megan's father and take some of his power. Placing a finger on my lips to show him to keep quiet. You never know when you need to freeze someone in place. Her mother held me tight and she kissed my cheek repeatedly. When I finally pull away, she wipes away her tears,
"I'll keep her safe. I promise,"
Her mom nods at me and I return to the car.
As soon as we all are in the car, my palm starts to itch and I rub it before I gasp,
"that fucking bitch,"
I crawl over Max's lap and climb out of the car,
"Where are you going?"
Megan asks and I turn to face her. Furious, I growl,
"I forgot something,"
