Chapter 13 - A THIEF

Elisa stood in front of a huge wooden door not knowing what to do next, the guard had just dropped her off and walked away.

She stood there confused for a long time before gathering courage to knock on the door, after knocking she waited for a response but she got nothing.

She knocked again but still no reply, she looked around to see if she could find anyone but she was completely alone, suddenly feeling annoyed, 'what kind of place is this, how could they be so inhospitable' she thought feeling wrong then she remembered she was originally brought here to be a slave.

And she knew all too well how slaves were treated, slaves were the lowest humans on earth and even children could abuse them and they had no right to talk back cause they were slaves.

'Her mother!' she screamed in her head finally remembering her mother, this showed the selfishness of humans forgetting everyone els and just cared about themselves when they were in trouble.

She hadn't seen her among the slaves, no she hadn't seen any elderly woman among the slaves, they were only young girls there, then where could her mother be, Elisa thought tears suddenly gushing out of her eyes.

She felt so frustrated, left in front of this huge door with no one to help her. Whenever she had too much inside her she would go to her mother and cry but now her mother was nowhere to be found so she just fell on her knees in a sitting position holding herself tightly and cried her eyes out, she had never felt so helpless in her life.

After crying for a while, she stopped and cleaned her eyes standing up she remembered the words her mother always told her, "if you ever find yourself in a situation with no one to help you just know, perseverance is the key, my dear resilience will see you through" she thought in her head.

Remembering those words, she felt a new sense of determination, looking around again if anyone was there but found no one she walked towards the door, standing in front of the door she raised her hand, pushing the door and surprisingly it was open.

She walked through the doors meeting a quiet dark hallway with dimly lit torches as the source of light.

Gathering courage she walked further through the hallways for a long time before she got to a series of doors lined up facing each other, she moved with speed down the hallway but the doors seemed endless so she stopped.

Standing she looked at both sides but could only see wooden doors, confused, 'where they people inside' she thought to herself bending her head to peep through the key hole a voice interrupted her.

"What are you doing" a feminine voice questioned her.

Raising her head, her gaze met with that of scrutinizing ones, she looked at the girl with red hair and a very striking beauty, she was very beautiful with sharp cat eyes, a pointed nose and full lips.

"I... I" Elisa opened her mouth to speak but but couldn't come up with words.

"You what?, don't tell me you came here to steal something" the girl said in realization looking at Elisa from up to down then her eyes rested on her face 'she is soo pretty even more pretty than lady Isabella' she thought in envy suddenly feeling hostile towards Elisa.

"No.." Elisa tried to explain but the girl didn't give her a chance.

"No what, you're a thief, you deserved to be burned alive" the girl said viciously her voice raising higher attracting the attention of others in the room causing them to come out one by one not long after a small crowd had gathered.

A slightly older girl with a matured and refined beauty stepped forward, "who is she Olivia" the girl asked looking at Elisa in curiosity.

"She is a thief, I found her using a hairpin to shook through the key hole of my room trying to open it" she said glaring at Elisa.

Her words caused a gasp among the crowd as they all looked down at Elisa making her shrink.

Elisa opened her mouth to explain but was cut off once again by another girl.

"She is indeed a thief, we should stone her to death" a girl said looking at Elisa in disgust.

"Yes or burn her alive" another one said in support.

"Or we could just report her to Madam Matilda" another girl said making everyone turn to look at her.

"And how are we sure she even tried to steal anything, she doesn't look like someone who would steal something now does she" a girl looking very shy and meek said looking down.

Elisa hearing the girl's words suddenly felt grateful to her, she looked up at the girl in gratitude.

"What are you saying ema, are you trying to say I would lie" the girl by the name Olivia said in rage looking at the girl with the name ema feeling a little pang of guilt, she had indeed lied about the hairpin part but the was obviously trying to steal or why would she be looking through the key hole.

"I.." the girl by the name ema tried to defend herself.

"You what! what are you trying to say.." Olivia said trying to intimidate ema but was interrupted by the older girl.

"That's enough" the older girl said calmly, "we would take her to Madam Matilda" the girl continued.

"Take who to me.."
