Chapter 40 - Battling A Constellation (Part 1)

Zayden couldn't just stand there and wait for what was happening to happen. If it were possible, he wanted to stop it and avoid unnecessary deaths.

With this thought in mind, he activated his oblivion coat on the sword in his hand and charged at the tube of purple energy.

He arched his arm backwards as far as he could before swinging it on the tube.

"CLANG!!!"

Zayden could feel the webs of his palm stretching, almost tearing as the impact of the strike reverberated in his arm, making his right arm numb.

"Damn it's hard"

Zayden gritted his teeth from the pain but didn't stop. But he reduced the power he put in and started slashing at the tube.

There was nothing else he could do as he didn't know how to stop this from happening.

Suddenly, a piece of the tube broke away and floated in front of them. In an instant, it turned into a weird creature.

This creature was like a ghost seen in horror movies. It had a shadowy white cloak-like body, like a blanket covering a broomstick, purple orbs for eyes and rows of jagged teeth.

[Level 15 Wraith]

The shards of the tube kept falling off as the tube itself regenerated, and before long, more than twenty wraiths were in front of the group.

Shrieks resounded in the dorm as the wraiths rushed at them.

Swords were swung, abilities were activated, and the wraiths were killed like flies. It was no surprise, after all, they were low-levelled and had little to no defence. But the annoying thing about them was that they gave little to no EXP.

Killing them was just a waste of time. And with the more time wasted, the closer the thing in that tube was to completion.

"Crack!!"

It was small, but Zayden quickly turned his head to look at the tube. In the middle of the tube was a small crack. And it spread along the surface of the tube like spider webs.

Before long, the tube that shot into the sky shattered.

At this moment, all battles stopped, and they turned to look at the creature that came out of the tube. The familiar chime of a system notification could be heard in the ears of everyone, and without their consent, a large, red, glowing system tab flashed in their irises.

[URGENT MISSION]

[DEFEAT THE CONSTELLATION]

[REWARDS: ???]

Seeing the system message, Zayden was surprised.

"What would make a constellation come down to us?"

What was more alarming was the fact that he had no memories of something like this happening. Even with the arrival of the invaders, no constellation ever descended to Earth. No matter what.

'Is this because of something I did?'

There had been many theories on the butterfly effect. A slight, almost insignificant change in the events of the past, from their initial course, could cause a catastrophic change. This change could be positive or negative.

What Zayden had been doing wasn't just a slight change; it was a large change. Like saving Tyrel and Darian.

In his past life, there had been no one who was able to contract the constellation of Zeus, talk more of meeting his physical representation. But Tyrel, the person who was supposed to die, actually contracted Zeus.

And with the way things were going, from the reports of the skills that Tyrel used during the null horde, Zayden was almost eighty percent sure that Tyrel would become Zeus's chosen.

Now this was a good thing, but what implications would such a big change bring in the future of the planet?

The same situation could be said about Darian.

Darian was supposed to die, but with Zayden saving him, he contracted a never-before-seen constellation; the effects in the future were unknown.

'But what made this happen?'

Even after thinking for such a long time, Zayden could connect the dots. He couldn't think of anything he had done to anger a constellation to the point that it would descend on the planet.

The tube shattered open, revealing a young boy.

A young boy of about seven years of age, standing at about three feet tall, was wearing a cloak made out of purplish energy that covered his face, making his facial features unable to be seen.

But one this that was noticeable was the towering aura that was coming off the young boy. It was so strong that the end of it couldn't be seen.

"This is unexpected"

The voice, or rather the multitude of voices, could be heard coming from the young boy. But his mouth didn't move.

He suddenly raised his head, his gaze landing on Zayden.

His mouth couldn't be seen, but from the slight tilt of his purple eyes, it was obvious that he was smirking.

"Do you regret it now?"

He asked, his voice carrying a teasing tone. But only a confused expression could be seen on Zayden's face.

The constellation seemed to know him, but Zayden was confused as he had no recollection of this constellation. He didn't know how he could have gotten acquainted with a constellation in the first place.

There was confusion written over his face, and it was obvious that the constellation saw this.

Amara and Aiden were staring at this exchange with bated breath. They were not stupid, so they knew that the constellation seemed to know Zayden, and the experience between the two of them wasn't anything good.

But that brought a question to their mind. They were just a week into the apocalypse, so how did Zayden manage to make contact with a constellation in the first place?

The nonexistent brows of the constellation creased.

"You don't even remember"

Its mocking laugh resounded in the surroundings, grating on the ears of anyone who heard it.

"An existence from an incomplete world sees me, the mighty Phantom Warloc, as a fleeting memory"

Even hearing the name of the constellation, Zayden was sure that he had no memories of the constellation, both from his memories of his previous life, and now.

"Well, it doesn't matter, I'll make you remember"

With that, the cloak covering the constellation was raised high into the air, and from it, multiple wraiths came out.

These wraiths were stronger than the ones that appeared before and were a whole lot harder to kill.

Before long, no less than five hundred wraiths were roaming the college, the majority of them in the female dorm area.

"How the f*ck are these so strong?"

From the first attack that landed, everyone could feel that these wraiths were marginally stronger than the ones that appeared before.

These wraiths kept everyone busy but Zayden.

The wraiths seem to be avoiding Zayden, throwing dirty looks and before long, Zayden understood why.

The constellation disappeared from where it stood and appeared in front of Zayden. Zayden didn't know what was going to happen next, but he brought his sword in front of his face.

Good thing he did, because in the next moment, a strong punch landed on him, sending him crashing through the girls' dorm and onto the sand in the female volleyball field.

Sand, dust and debris were kicked up, blocking his view.

Zayden's arms were numb. He felt nothing from his hand. But he still stood up.

"The hell"

Zayden cursed, seeing the constellation already in front of him, with a punch already coming towards his face.

Once again, he blocked the attacks with his sword, but was slammed into the ground hard.

He looked at his health bar and saw that it had gone down by thirty percent.

With a groan, he struggled to stand up and saw the phantom warlock staring at him.

"Do you remember me now?"

Zayden was getting annoyed. Even though he knew that the constellation was infinitely stronger than he, he couldn't remember it.

"I don't f*cking remember you!!. What the f*ck do you need my validation for anyway. You're not a child"

The eyes of the constellation flickered.

"Then you still need some help remembering"

The constellation was about to charge at Zayden when he heard a voice behind him.

"No. You need therapy"

Almost immediately, a bolt of lightning shot down on the constellation, forming a crater where it stood.

But the attack missed him as he jumped away, just in time.

He had no time to time to rest as he saw a silver blade covered in holy energy coming towards his face.

A swirling mass of purple quickly came out of his hand, forming a sword, which he used to block the attack, but he was pushed back.

But once again, without a chance to catch his breath, abnormally large hands appeared above his head, coming down quickly.

Mid-air, he changed his trajectory, and his back slammed into a wall.

Well, it wasn't a wall, but a blue circle with glowing runes on it. Immediately, his back landed on it, a chain made entirely out of ice with a large spike at the end shot out, going through his stomach.

It multiplied, binding him before anchoring to the ground.

Zayden took advantage of this and charged at the phantom warlock, the dark spike already formed in his hand.
