Chapter 20 – The Red Bag Confession

© 2025 TenWrites I'm not even joking, this gist is hotter than Mama Dorcas' early morning pap. No lifting. No screenshotting. No nonsense.

"Bring the red bag."

Three seconds of silence.

Then quick footsteps. Someone ran into the hallway and returned holding a dusty red leather bag like it contained village secrets from 1924.

The compound held its breath.

Even Baba Tunde removed his fake lawyer glasses.

The bag was placed on the centre table. It looked like it had seen war, prayers and pepper soup.

Temi blinked. "What's inside?"

Nobody answered.

Madam Eunice, calm like a retired MI6 agent, unzipped it slowly.

Inside:

* A small black SIM card pouch

* A bunch of old letters tied with brown rope

* A photo of Aunty Sade in native, standing beside a strange herbalist man

* Something that looked like a tied charm or dried leaf wrapped in white cloth

"Ahhh! Mo gbe!" Mama Yakubu screamed. "That thing don see rituals o!"

Temi, despite herself, was curious. She picked the SIM pouch and handed it to Femi.

"Slot it in," Madam Eunice said.

The moment the SIM entered, the phone vibrated.

5 voice notes.

2 saved text messages.

Femi clicked the first one.

> "Eunice, if you don't leave that house before Sunday, I will tell them everything about the land. I swear. I still have the papers."

It was Aunty Sade's voice.

Gasps filled the room. Baba Tunde dropped his folder. Mama Dorcas removed her glasses and cleaned them with fire.

Next message:

> "And that your shrine—if I talk, will your daughter-in-law still marry into this family? Better relocate before I open chapter two."

Madam Eunice folded her arms. "Now tell me who was really doing herbal nonsense?"

Aunty Sade's hands shook. "It's a lie! It was roleplay! We were acting!"

"Inside voice note?" Temi asked.

"She be voice actress?" Uncle Monday added.

Then came the text:

> "Bring N100k by Friday. Or your secrets become compound knowledge."

Aunty Sade snapped. "Femi, she's the witch o! Don't you all see? That red bag is her juju bag! She's trying to twist everything!"

Femi looked tired. "The only thing twisted here is your logic."

Mama Yakubu hissed. "Shebi I said it, woman wey dey use battery-powered bible. No peace since she enter this compound."

Aunty Sade suddenly dashed toward the door.

"Hold am!" someone shouted.

Baba Tunde dove like he was in a Nollywood action movie, tripped, and accidentally caught her by the leg. The entire compound clapped.

"Talk true!" Mama Dorcas thundered. "Why you blackmail Madam Eunice?"

Tears welled up in Aunty Sade's eyes. "She was going to disgrace me. That land—I helped her get it, but she refused to give me a share. And the herbalist it was only small protection we did that time!"

"Protection?" Madam Eunice laughed. "You call sacrificing three pigeons at midnight 'small'? Your herbalist still dey owe me incense!"

Silence.

Femi rubbed his forehead. "This house needs deliverance."

Temi tapped his arm. "You haven't seen the last thing in the bag."

She reached in and pulled out an old envelope with strange symbols drawn in blue chalk. No name. Just a symbol—a triangle with eyes.

Mama Dorcas froze. Her voice dropped.

"That symbol…"

"What is it?" Temi asked.

Mama Dorcas took the envelope with trembling hands.

"It's from my mother's secret diary."

Everyone stared.

She looked up slowly.

"This matter don pass blackmail. It's time to call the Others."
