Chapter 27: Mr. Lucky, I Want to Play a Game With You
Bringing the Ojama Brothers, who had remained quiet due to threats, back home, Hayato casually kicked off his shoes at the entrance, changed into slippers, and headed towards the kitchen.
Last night, due to the rush, he had just casually cooked some Instant Noodles to make do. Today, he was home much earlier than usual, so he could finally have a proper dinner.
Ever since transmigrating, Hayato hadn't really had a proper meal. It wasn't that he had gone hungry; it was just that things like toast and eggs for breakfast or the fried noodle bread sold at School were always treated as snacks. For a proper meal, the focus should really be on having rice!
But before Hayato had even moved a few steps away from the door he had just closed, the sound of the doorbell outside rang from behind him.
Could it be someone looking for his mother? Hayato turned around uncertainly. He didn't open the door immediately but instead pressed his eye close to the peephole, wanting to see what the person outside looked like.
Pressing his forehead against the door, Hayato peered outside, only to see an empty front yard. This made him slightly unhappy. Was some mischievous kid playing a prank?
But from behind him came the sound of the glass door leading to the yard being pushed open.
"Hey, kid, stand there obediently and don't move."
Turning his head, Hayato saw a strange man walking into the house from the garden. The mud clinging to his ill-fitting shoes made a mess of the floor inside. But the man seemed completely oblivious, even wiping his feet on the Tatami Mat in the living room.
Although the man's movements always seemed lazy and lacking in strength, Hayato didn't move an inch. Instead, he stood obediently in place, just watching the other person close the curtains.
The reason was simple: in the man's hand, a Handgun was pointed in Hayato's direction.
"I presume you're the Escaped Convict gentleman from the Newspaper earlier? Ah, I really am unlucky." Sighing, Hayato raised his hands to show he wasn't a threat, while his eyes scanned his surroundings.
Having a gun pointed at him was no fun at all. He had to find a way to save himself, but without alerting the Escaped Convict.
Hearing Hayato's sigh, Lucky's face broke into a smile: "Heh hahaha, kids like you, at this age, must be addicted to games every day, right? Hmph hmph hmph, truly neglecting proper work. Instead of spending that time playing games, you'd be better off studying Zodiac Signs."
Ah, this? Hayato was utterly dumbfounded on the spot. Was he being called neglectful of proper work by an Escaped Convict? Besides, was studying Zodiac Signs considered proper work? If he played Cards, maybe he could even save the world someday.
"May I ask why you've come to my house, Mr. Escaped Convict?" After scanning around, Hayato found something that might be useful. To increase his chances of success, he decided to engage the Escaped Convict before him in conversation to buy time.
"Kid, I really don't like that address. It's too unlucky. Yours Truly's name is Lucky, 'Lucky'!" The Escaped Convict looked around the house, swept all the decorations off the Kotatsu table with a flick of his arm, and casually plopped down on it. The gun in his hand was still pointed at Hayato. "Blame your bad luck. Yours Truly is going to rob you now. Now, hand over all the money hidden in your house!"
"Don't even think about any tricks. The moment I see you trying to move out of my sight, I'll shoot; if anything that isn't money appears in your hand, I'll shoot; and if you dare to go near the phone or anything like that, I'll also shoot."
With a sinister smile, the Escaped Convict Lucky gestured to the side with the gun in his hand: "Go on, bring out the money in your house. Oh, right, I also want something to eat and drink. Yours Truly is starving to death."
"Alright, Mr. Lucky." Hayato immediately obediently walked towards the kitchen. Lucky also stood up from the living room, the gun in his hand moving with Hayato and constantly maintaining distance.
Lucky was extremely cautious. He always kept a distance of 'gun speed' beyond seven steps from Hayato. Even if Ip Man came, he probably wouldn't be able to snatch the Handgun from him. However, Hayato genuinely had no intention of making a move anyway.
Soon, a bowl of Instant Noodles was placed on the living room table. Hayato finished adding hot water to it and explained to the cautious Lucky, "I'm very sorry, Mr. Lucky, my parents haven't been home for quite some time recently, so there aren't any proper meals at home, only this. I doubt you'd accept me calling for takeout, right?"
"I told you, if you dare go near the phone, I'll shoot. But you really are unlucky, kid, your parents aren't home, and then I show up." Lucky's face showed a ferocious smile. "Fine, Instant Noodles will do. It's been a long time since I've had any. So, where's the money in your house?"
"Actually, I don't have any cash savings at home. After all, the adults aren't home, you can understand that, right, Mr. Lucky? However, my mother did leave me a Bank Card before she left." Taking a few steps back, watching Lucky pull up a chair and sit by the table, Hayato still didn't make any moves, merely explaining unhurriedly,
"If I go to the bank to withdraw money now, you probably wouldn't agree, right? So, I'll have to trouble you to withdraw it yourself later."
"How troublesome." Lucky scratched his head, annoyed. "Alright, where's the Card? Hand it over, and the Bank Card's PIN."
This time, however, Hayato didn't obediently comply. Instead, under Lucky's watchful gaze, he pulled out the chair opposite Lucky and sat down. He took out the Bank Card, placed it next to the Instant Noodles bowl, and calmly said, "It'll be a while before the Instant Noodles are ready to eat. And this Card contains over a month's worth of my living expenses. I'd really be unwilling to just lose it like this."
Although he said this, Lucky couldn't see any sign of "unwillingness" on Hayato's face.
"So, Mr. Lucky. While we're waiting for the Instant Noodles, how about playing a game with me?" Hayato took out his Deck and placed it on the table. "Duel Monsters Card. If you beat me, I'll tell you the Bank Card's PIN immediately. And even if you lose, I'll still tell you before you leave."
"After all, Mr. Lucky, you have a gun in your hand."
Looking at Hayato's calm smile, Lucky found it quite interesting. Reaching inside his prison uniform, he surprisingly pulled out a Deck as well. "Hahaha, kid, you've found the right person then! No one in the entire prison could beat me at Duel Monsters!"
