Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 First Real Starter

It was Eddie's first time to come to Captain Sanders' laboratory. As soon as he arrived at the door, he saw Mogu muttering to himself. He was holding something in his hand and walking back and forth at the door, looking very distressed.

"Mr. Mogu!" Eddie called out to him.

Mogu looked up suddenly and saw Eddie standing not far away with a basket. He said in surprise, "Eddie, why are you here? It's been a long time since we last met! How are you doing recently?"

"Long time no see. I brought the kids to the West District today, and it's a good opportunity to come and see you." Eddie walked quickly to Mogu and said, "This is the fruit I planted. I brought it here especially for you to taste. By the way, is Captain Sanders here?"

"Thank you." Mogu glanced at the basket in Eddie's hand and then said distressedly, "Sanders is here... but now he..."

Seeing that Mogu was hesitant to speak, Eddie asked in confusion: "Did something happen? Do you want my help?"

So Mogu explained: "I don't need your help, this is what happened..."

It turns out that Captain Sanders has a daughter who is about the same age as Eddie. Today is her tenth birthday, and she is about to set off on her journey. However, there is a problem with the initial Pokémon that Captain Sanders chose for her.

That Pokémon, a Popplio, was cute, gentle, and rare. Everything about it seemed good, except that it just couldn't use any of its skills.

Captain Sanders' daughter has had the Popplio for several days. At first, the two sides got along very well. Captain Sanders' daughter actively took the Popplio for special training every day, and the Popplio also cooperated.

However, after a few days, the girl discovered something was wrong. No matter how hard she tried to teach the other party, the other party just couldn't use a single skill.

The girl's enthusiasm was extinguished in an instant. Her initial Pokémon turned out to be flawed! So she started to get angry with Captain Sanders and also had a conflict with her initial Pokémon.

At first, there were only some minor verbal frictions between the little girl and the initial Pokémon, but as the departure date got closer, the conflicts between the two sides began to escalate.

Finally today, the conflict between the two of them broke out.

The little girl asked her father to give her a new starting Pokémon, but that Pokémon no longer listened to the little girl's commands.

Captain Sanders certainly didn't want to replace his daughter's initial Pokémon casually, as it would be bad for both his daughter and the Pokémon, so he refused his daughter's request.

In order to find out why the Pokémon couldn't use its skills, Captain Sanders took it to the Pokémon Center and asked Officer Jenny to help check it out. However, the result was that the Pokémon had a congenital defect.

It stands to reason that a Pokémon that is assigned as a starter Pokémon to new trainers should not have any problems. However, this Pokémon's defect is quite special. It is not a physical defect, but a problem with its energy circuit.

The energy circuit is the most important and complex part of a Pokémon's body. Once something goes wrong with it, it is not easy to solve the problem, and Officer Jenny is helpless about it.

This kind of problem can only be detected by professional Pokémon doctors. Most of the members in the breeding base that breeds initial Pokémon are breeders, so of course they cannot discover it.

This problem was difficult to solve, so when Captain Sanders returned home, he didn't know how to explain to his daughter, and he didn't know how to communicate with the Pokémon.

Giving up a Pokémon would certainly be cruel to that Pokémon, especially if it was just a cub, but he also didn't want his daughter to encounter setbacks just when she was starting out as a trainer.

Captain Sanders didn't know how to communicate with the Pokémon, but her daughter was young and didn't have so many scruples. She directly announced to the Pokémon that she would change her starting Pokémon.

Not only did she say it, she did it, and by the time Captain Sanders knew about it, it was too late.

Captain Sanders' daughter asked her friend in advance to capture a Pokémon for her in the wild, and that Pokémon happened to be delivered today.

Although this new Pokémon is not as rare as the original one, it can use various skills smoothly and its talent seems very good. Captain Sanders' daughter is very satisfied with it and takes it home directly.

But her behavior angered her original Pokémon, which beat the little girl severely and ran away from home in anger.

Captain Sanders is now outside, anxiously looking for that Pokémon.

As the two were talking, they saw Captain Sanders coming back from outside in a hurry. Mogu hurriedly went up to him and asked, "Did you find it?"

"Oh~" Captain Sanders shook his head slightly, then sighed deeply.

At this time, Eddie stepped forward and asked, "Captain Sanders, do you want me to help you look for it?"

"Eddie, you know about this too?" Sanders was a little surprised to see Eddie. "But no need. I'll look for it myself. It's a rare occasion for you to come here, so you must have something to do, right? Just go and do your thing."

The Pokémon had been gone for quite some time and no one knew where it had gone. Sanders naturally didn't want to trouble others for help.

Captain Sanders thought, "It would be better to go to the Pokémon Center and post a mission to find the Popplio. Otherwise, it would be too difficult for him to find the Popplio by himself since Coumarine City is so big."

Every family has its own problems! Seeing Captain Sanders' tired appearance, Eddie felt a little emotional. He handed the basket to Captain Sanders and left.

After leaving the research institute, Eddie happily took the children out to play.

They first went to the aquarium, where they saw many Water-type Pokémon. In addition to the common Pokémon in the Kalos region, such as Qwilfish, Clauncher, and others, there were also many rare species introduced from other regions, such as the cute Pokémon that likes to fight, the glowing and dancing Lumineon, the swimming champion Pokémon, and so on.

These Pokémon can also perform shows, which always make the guests laugh. At this time, the guests will feed them Pokémon food specially purchased in the aquarium.

These Pokémon have been trained in advance. They will not eat the food you bring from outside. Who knows whether the food you bring from outside is safe or whether it will cause diarrhea after eating it.

It was the first time for the children to come here. They were very excited and almost went around the entire aquarium.

Then they went to see a popular children's movie. It was a film about the friendship between humans and Pokémon. It was very touching, and several children cried in the cinema.

Only the well-behaved little Daisy didn't understand anything, and she was sleeping soundly in Eddie's arms. When they left the cinema, she became energetic again, looking here and there, her eyes rolling around, and her eyes were almost too busy to keep up.

At noon, Eddie found a restaurant which was not very expensive but very famous in Coumarine City and took everyone to have a good meal.

In Arthor's words, "This is the most delicious meal I have ever had!" Anyway, as long as he is happy, everything will become the best.

After lunch, Eddie and his friends went to the largest and most famous amusement park in Coumarine City. It is very popular among children and can be said to be one of the most lively places in Coumarine City.

There were so many entertainment activities that the kids were overwhelmed. Unfortunately, they had limited time and could only choose to play some of the more famous ones.

There are some projects that Daisy cannot play. At this time, Max always wants to stay and take care of Daisy, but Eddie takes the initiative to take on this task.

Compared with some other kids who are more playful, he is not that interested in the amusement park. It is okay to play there, but not playing is not a big deal either.

Daisy is usually taken care of by Max most of the time. Now that she finally gets to go out and play, Eddie hopes that Max can have fun and enjoy herself.

Every time Daisy saw her brothers and sisters shouting with excitement while playing, she would giggle along below, even happier than if she were playing herself. Sometimes she would dance so hard that Eddie could hardly hold her.

Whenever Eddie couldn't play with the children, he would ask Selene to pay more attention to the children to ensure their safety.

After leaving the amusement park, Eddie and his friends saw that it was getting late, so they planned to go home. Unexpectedly, they met Officer Jenny on the way to the station.

Officer Jenny was not alone outside. There were several police officers following her. Each of them was holding one or two prisoners in their hands, and it seemed that they were going back to the police station.

Seeing that Officer Jenny was busy, Eddie had no intention of disturbing her. Unexpectedly, the sharp-eyed Officer Jenny spotted him in the crowd at a glance.

Officer Jenny handed the criminal to her subordinates, asked them to escort him into the police car, and then she walked towards Eddie.

"Eddie, why are you here? What's the matter?"

Eddie pointed at the children beside him and said, "Brought them over to play."

Officer Jenny suddenly realized and praised Eddie with a smile, "You are becoming more and more like an older brother now." She felt very relieved about this.

Eddie told Officer Jenny that he had visited her at the police station and that he could make money by growing Berries. Officer Jenny thanked Eddie for the gift and wished Eddie's Berry business a prosperous future.

Then they said goodbye to each other.

Before parting, Officer Jenny told Eddie that a smuggling gang had recently come to Coumarine City, and the people in it were extremely vicious. Although the leader and most of the members had been arrested today, a few of them had escaped unexpectedly. So she asked Eddie to be careful when going out recently, and never approach strangers casually.

After returning home, the children were still excited and kept telling Director Eleanor and Eli about their itinerary for the day. Arthor, in particular, loved to play pranks. He spoke incoherently but made Director Eleanor laugh.

Today's trip has become the most unforgettable memory in the children's lives.

The next morning, Eddie and Selene picked a basket of fruit and planned to go to Grandpa Ramos's place. He had already finished reading the books he had borrowed from Grandpa Ramos before, so this time he would just take them back and borrow two more books he hadn't read yet.

The mother and son were walking slowly on the road, when suddenly a truck rushed past them, and the strong wind it brought almost knocked them to the ground.

At the same time, something fell off the car with a clang. Eddie looked carefully and saw a Popplio lying crookedly in a cage, obviously badly injured.

A Pokémon called a Popplio? Isn't this a Pokémon that is unique to the Alola region? Why is there one here?

At this moment, Eddie suddenly remembered the smuggling gang that Officer Jenny mentioned. Could it be that the people in the car just now were the ones who escaped?

Eddie opened the cage and gently took the Popplio out. However, the Popplio suddenly woke up and gave Eddie a big slap as soon as it opened its eyes.

"Bang!"

Eddie's head was tilted by the hit. Not only Eddie and Selene were confused, but Popplio himself was also confused.

Who is this little brat? He clearly remembers being captured by several big men.

The next second, the Popplio vigilantly jumped out of Eddie's arms and ran as fast as it could, but it was an aquatic creature after all, with fins and a tail but no legs, so it ran very slowly.

As soon as Selene stretched out her hand, it was controlled by superpowers and flew back.

"Woo woo woo~~~"

The Popplio struggled non-stop, its body almost twisted into a knot, but with that little strength it had, how could it possibly break free from Selene's superpowers!

Eddie endured the pain on his cheeks caused by the slap of the Popplio and quickly comforted it:

"Popplio, don't get excited. We are not bad people. You just fell off a car, and we happened to pick you up."

"Shanai~" That's it, that's it.

Selene quickly responded: "Don't be ungrateful, look at how you beat my baby! It hurts, I've never hit him so hard before."

The Popplio then stopped struggling, but still looked at Eddie and Selene with distrust.

"Boy, that Popplio is mine, give it back to me!"

At this time, a loud shout was heard. The Popplio was so scared when he heard the sound that he trembled all over.

Eddie looked back and saw a bearded uncle in a construction uniform staring at him ferociously.

Eddie not only did not listen to the uncle, but instead hugged the trembling Popplio into his arms, and then calmly questioned the other party:

"You say it's yours? Do you have any evidence? I said it's mine! Why don't you call it and see if it responds?"

The Popplio buried his head in Eddie's arms. When he heard these words, he looked up at him quietly, and miraculously, he felt a little relieved in his heart.

This guy really doesn't seem to be a bad person.

The uncle was angered by Eddie's words: "You little bastard, you don't want to accept my offer, right? Today I'll teach you who you shouldn't mess with!" As he said that, he took out a Poké Ball, and then a Conkeldurr appeared beside him.

"Conkeldurr, give that kid a good beating."

"roar!"

The Conkeldurr roared, raised the concrete pillar in its hand and strode towards Eddie.

At this time, Selene appeared in front of the Conkeldurr in a flash. At the moment when the Conkeldurr threw the concrete pillar at her, she erected a colorful barrier to block its attack.

This is the skill Reflect, which Selene learned later.

Of the skills Selene knew before, except for Healing Pulse, all the others were attack skills, so Eddie specially let her learn two more defensive skills in the past year or so, namely Light Screen and Reflect, which are used to defend against special attacks and physical attacks respectively.

Eddie found the teaching videos of these two skills in Ramos's library.

As a Psychic-type Pokémon, it is not difficult for Selene to learn these two skills. It just requires constant practice to master them.

Because Selene has to endure the siege of more than a dozen big birds every day, it is not easy for her to not improve after a year.

Eddie is preparing to let Selene learn the dodge skill of Teleport.

Now that we have all the attack, healing, and defense skills, we naturally also need a skill for running away.

Seeing Selene, the uncle's face showed greed: "I didn't expect to meet another Gardevoir. I'm so lucky today! Conkeldurr, catch that Gardevoir as well."

However, as soon as he finished speaking, brilliant halos of light suddenly burst out from Gardevoir's body, and the Conkeldurr on the opposite side flew backwards after letting out a scream.

The Fairy-type Dazzling Gleam restrained the Fighting-type Conkeldurr, and the Conkeldurr itself was not too strong, so after Selene's attack, its head tilted, and it lost its combat ability.

Flash sale!

The uncle didn't even react. He just opened his mouth wide and stared at Gardevoir blankly. When he came to his senses, Selene had already caught him with her Psychic.

After some interrogation, Eddie quickly figured out the identity of this uncle. He was indeed a member of the smuggling gang, and he was the only one left in the gang.

This guy looks ferocious, but he is actually a coward. Eddie just scares him a couple of times, and he tells you everything.

When they escaped from the police, they were not one person but three people. Because the leader had been arrested, they discussed breaking up.

Unfortunately, money can only tempt people.

One of these three people is the one who manages the finances of the smuggling gang, and that is the uncle that Selene has arrested. The money earned by the smuggling gang is usually deposited with him first, and then distributed among them after the business is over.

However, this time, before they could divide the money, the police showed up. Now that the boss has been arrested and the money is in his hands, the uncle began to have evil thoughts. He thought: If the other two people are dead, wouldn't the money be all his?

Now that his boss is gone, he doesn't know if he can continue his business in the future. There is a high possibility that he will be unemployed, so he must seize the opportunity to make a fortune.

So in order to keep the money for himself, he poisoned and killed his other two partners.

Eddie met the uncle here because he was in a hurry to get the money and leave Coumarine City. But the uncle never thought that he would fall into the hands of a little devil because of his greed.

As for the Popplio, they picked it up when they were running away.

This is a rare Pokémon after all, and it could be worth a lot of money if sold. Now that I've encountered it, there's no reason to miss it.

After hearing the uncle say that the Popplio was picked up, Eddie suddenly thought of the original Pokémon that was lost in Captain Sanders's house. According to Mogu, it seemed to be a Popplio as well.

He quickly used the golden finger to check the condition of the Popplio. It turned out that this Pokémon really had a defective energy circuit. More than half of its energy circuits were blocked. No wonder it couldn't use its skills.

The principle by which Pokémon can use skills is that the original energy in the energy circuit resonates with the attribute energy of the outside world, and different skills are formed according to different forms of resonance.

Now most of the energy circuits in the body of the Popplio are in a blocked state. Naturally, it is impossible to store the original energy, and it is even more impossible to resonate with the attribute energy of the outside world.

In fact, most of the Pokémon's energy circuits are not completely unobstructed, and there are also blockages, but the blocked parts are minor details and will not affect the operation of the energy circuits.

The situation of the Popplio is different. There are too many blocked parts, which have completely hindered the work of the energy circuit.

For example, if we cut off some of the branches of a tree, it can still survive. Even if the entire crown of some trees is cut off, as long as the roots are still there, it can still sprout again.

But if you cut it off directly from the roots, it will die.

Although this analogy is not particularly appropriate, this is the truth.

Eddie can solve the problem of the Popplio. His golden finger has the function of unblocking the energy circuit of Pokémon. He usually helps Selene to unblock the blocked parts in the energy circuit.

But the blockage is too serious, and it cannot be cleared in a day or two. It will take a lot of time to deal with it slowly.

When Eddie used the golden finger to check the body of the Popplio, it felt warm all over, and an indescribable sense of comfort burst out from the inside out.

This is a feeling that the Popplio has never experienced before.

When Eddie took his hand away from the Popplio, the warm feeling suddenly disappeared, and a feeling of loss and regret rose from the bottom of the Popplio's heart.

Now that he had figured out the identities of the uncle and the Popplio, Eddie directly called Officer Jenny and Captain Sanders.

Officer Jenny came on a motorcycle at a very fast speed. When she saw the uncle fainted on the side, she said, "He is indeed one of the three people who escaped. This time, it's all thanks to you!"

Eddie waved his hand and said, "It's nothing. Fighting crime is everyone's responsibility!"

"Everyone has the responsibility to fight crime..." Officer Jenny muttered, thinking that what Eddie said made sense. She praised Eddie, "Not bad, you are aware of it. But there is still a reward. This person is a wanted criminal, and the police have set up a bounty. I will help you apply for it after I go back."

"There's a bonus?" Eddie was surprised. He didn't expect there would be such an unexpected surprise.

"Of course. By the way, did you subdue this man by yourself?" Officer Jenny glanced at the Conkeldurr lying next to her, then looked at Selene and said, "It seems that you have a talent for being a trainer. I feel that Selene has become much stronger after such a short time."

Eddie waved his hands modestly and said, "No, no, it's not me who is good, it's Selene herself who is good. She trains very hard every day."

Officer Jenny nodded and said nothing more. She looked at the Popplio in Eddie's arms and said, "What are you going to do with this Popplio? Do you want me to help you send it to Mr. Sanders's research institute?"

Eddie replied: "I have contacted Captain Sanders, he should be here soon."

"Oh, I'm leaving the Popplio in your care. I'll take this guy back to the police station first." Officer Jenny pointed at the uncle on the ground and said.

After Officer Jenny left, Eddie and Selene returned home, planning to go to Uncle Ramos in the afternoon because he and Captain Sanders had agreed to meet at the Bluebird Orphanage.

Not long after the mother and son arrived home, Captain Sanders drove over. After confirming that the Popplio was indeed the one that was lost, he solemnly expressed his gratitude to Eddie.

However, when he reached out to hug the Popplio, the Popplio dodged and was unwilling to go back with him.

At this time, Eddie suddenly asked, "Captain Sanders, after you bring the Popplio back, what are you going to do with it?"

Popplio also looked at Sanders with a scrutinizing look: "Yes, how are you going to arrange for me? I don't want your rotten daughter!"

After hearing Eddie's words, Sanders was stunned. He actually didn't know how to accommodate the Popplio.

His daughter is unwilling to accept the Popplio. He doesn't mind raising it himself, but looking at the Popplio's appearance, he is afraid that it will not be able to accept it. After all, he is not a trainer.

If you let someone else train it, the Popplio can't learn any skills, so which trainer would be willing to take it?

It's such a headache!

Seeing Captain Sanders' distressed expression, Eddie suggested: "Why don't you give it to me? I'm willing to pay for it."

This opportunity cannot be missed. The Popplio is a very rare Pokémon. If he misses this chance, it will be difficult for him, a child from an orphanage, to meet one again.

Even if he becomes rich in the future and has the ability to get a Popplio, it will take three years? Five years? Or ten years?

Too long!

And with the Popplio, he won't have to worry about watering the fruit trees in the future? When there's a chance, let the Popplio learn Rain Dance, it's perfect!

As for its physical defects, that's not a problem!

Hearing Eddie's words, Captain Sanders looked up in surprise: "Didn't you hear Mogu talk about this child's problem? It can't learn any skills!"

When Popplio heard this, his originally furious aura suddenly subsided. If it hadn't had this problem, when it ran away from home, it wouldn't have just beaten up that damn girl, it would have definitely beaten up that Pokémon as well!

Eddie touched its head when he saw this, and then said to Captain Sanders: "I know that, but I don't mind."

"But..." Sanders hesitated, "You say you don't mind now, but if you regret it in the future, what will happen to the child?"

Eddie shook his head and assured: "No, don't worry."

Captain Sanders saw that Eddie's tone was sincere and thought that this was indeed a good solution, so he agreed.

Eddie currently has only 60,000 PokéDollars in his hand, which is not enough to buy a Popplio, so he wants to discuss with Captain Sanders whether the remaining money can be paid later.

However, Captain Sanders waved his hand and said, "Don't give me the money. I already feel very sorry for this child. If you give me money now, it will make me feel that I am too greedy."

Hearing this, Popplio immediately looked as if to say that you still have some conscience.

Eddie looked at the Popplio like this and wondered: Didn't Mogu say that the Popplio has a gentle personality? Why doesn't it seem like that to me... (Popplio: I've been wronged so much, and my temperament hasn't changed?)

Since Captain Sanders was unwilling to take the money, Eddie would not try to show off. He didn't have much money to begin with, and he was still in the early stages of starting a business!

After deciding on the fate of the Popplio, Captain Sanders drove away from the Bluebird Orphanage alone.

"Popplio, we are a family from now on. Please give me your guidance." Eddie extended his right hand towards the Popplio.

The Popplio looked at Eddie with a hint of hesitation in its eyes. After its previous experience, it didn't know whether Eddie could be trusted.

Seeing Popplio's tangled face, Eddie continued: "If you are worried that I will abandon you because of your physical defect, then you are worrying too much, because I have a way to help you solve this defect."

Hearing this, the Popplio's eyes lit up.

"Woo?" Really?

"Shana~Shana~Nai~Shana~" Of course it's true, my baby is so amazing, your little problem is nothing!

Before Eddie could say anything, Selene interrupted and said that in her heart, her beloved son was omnipotent.

The Popplio was still very naive. After hearing Selene's assurance, it no longer had any doubts and excitedly put its fin in Eddie's hand.

"Woo~" Please give me more advice!

From then on, Eddie had his first Pokémon.

Because he had decided to go to Master Ramos in the afternoon, Eddie did not go out after Captain Sanders left. Instead, he carried out the first clearing of the energy circuit of the Popplio.

He placed his hand on the belly of the Popplio, controlling the golden finger energy to penetrate into the energy circuit of the Popplio bit by bit, intending to destroy the impurities that blocked the energy circuit bit by bit.

The energy circuit of the Popplio starts from its throat and ends at its tail. Because the blockage is too severe, the energy inside cannot form a cycle, and the original energy will be rebounded back to the starting point every time it flows halfway.

Because of this, the energy circuit of the Popplio cannot absorb energy from the outside world autonomously, thereby increasing the accumulation of its original energy.

What Eddie needs to do is to use his golden finger energy to activate the few original energies in the body of the Popplio, let it break up the impurities, and then the golden finger energy will melt the impurities.

The energy circuit structure of the Popplio is much simpler than that of Selene, so the operation is actually not difficult. The only thing required is patience.

When Eddie was clearing the energy circuit of the Popplio bit by bit, the Popplio only felt a tingling sensation all over, as if an electric current was passing through its body, making it feel a little strange but also very exciting.

An hour passed in the blink of an eye. Eddie felt that it was about time, so he took back the golden finger energy and asked the Popplio:

"How do you feel, Popplio?"

"Woo~Woo~"

The Popplio clapped its fins happily, believing in Eddie's assurance that he could solve its shortcomings.
