I pulled out my phone...
"Guys, you both have to see this video! it's been going viral all day"
Mia leaned in, curiousity piqued
"What is it?"
I grinned. "Just watch"
The video showed a hapless student trying to impress his crush with a dramatic reading of a love poem, only to end up with a full of pie.
Mia burst out laughing . "Oh my god, that's amazing! poor guy!"
Diva chuckled "I know right? I saw it earlier and couldn't stop laughing"
I nodded smiling "I know, it's just so...extra. I love it"
Mia wiped tears from her eyes. "I cant believe he went all out like that. I mean, i feel bad for him, but also...wow"
"I think that's what makes it so funny. He's just so committed to the bit". Diva smiled
"Totally, okay so now that we've got our daily dose of schadenfreude..."
Mia raised an eyebrow interrupting me
"Schadenfreude?"
"Yeah you know, taking pleasure in someone's else misfortune like we're laughing at this guy's expense" I smiled
Diva giggled "I approve of this conversation"
Mia playfully rolled her eyes
"Anyways, moving on from our daily dose of schadenfreude...i saw an interesting article earlier today. It was about the impact of social media on our self - esteem"
My eyes lit up "Oh yeah, I've been meaning to read that. What did it say?"
Mia lauched into a summary of the article discussing the ways in which curated online profiles can lead to unrealistic comparisons and decreased self - esteem.
Diva nodded thoughtfully "That makes sense, i mean, i know i've caught myself comparing my life to someone's highlight reel before"
"Same here, it's hard not to get caught up in it all"
Mia smiled "Exactly, but its good to be aware of it, you know? To be a step back and remember that everyone's online persona is not just ...a persona"
Diva grinned mischievously
"Speaking of personas...have you guys seen the latest prom night fashion trends"
I groaned "You know we aren't into those stuff, Diva"
"Oh !, come on, you know i'd be needing you guys help for my groups dresses for prom night"
"Why do you need our help, you are obviously good in that than us and besides prom still remains five months, why disturbing your head now" Mia hissed
"You know I and Rahila are both competing to be the queen of fashion on prom night"
"Well, well, well, we've heard and we would help" I said
Diva nodded happily "Thanks soo much, you really dont know how happy i am right now"
"Duh!!!" Mia groaned and I smacked her arm
"Have you guys heard? Mr Cyle is giving us a new project next week"
Diva stated as she played with her hair
Mia raised an eyebrow
"Whats the project about?"
Diva shrugged "I dont know yet but i'm sure it'll be exciting. Maybe something on the American Revolution"
"Gosh History sucks sometimes but the project literally makes it more lively" I said
"Well, I really cant wait to start another project, i hope we three ends up in the same group this time"Mia said
Diva grinned happily "And who knows, maybe i'll will get to wear a fancy costume for the presentation"
"You would like that, wouldn't you" I chuckled
"Hey, someone's got to bring some flair to the history department" Diva winked
