For Lenore, the journey back is uncomfortable at best. When she manages to fall asleep, her dreams are restless and leave her waking up more fatigued than she was before. When she's awake, she keeps her eyes closed in her mess of pillows and blankets and tries to focus on the fact that every bump brings her a little closer to Barrowmere. She tries to count her breaths, measuring them by seconds as if the right amount of air in her lungs can fix the rest of her body. She listens to the clip-clop of the horses and the sound of cloth shifting over cloth when Alaric moves.
"We'll stop for the night soon. The town isn't far now, so you'll be able to eat and rest a bit more comfortably at the inn," Alaric says. He keeps his voice soft, almost like he's expecting her to be asleep but wants to inform her about their progress just in case.
