Kane opened his eyes abruptly as one who had just woken up from a nightmare. He was breathing at a very fast rate and was excessively sweating. He put his hands to his chest as he tried to control his breathing. Huff! Huff! Huff! Kane went on as he raised his head to take in what environment he had woken up in.
The room was large, having been fitted with numerous beds that had snow white sheets. Next to it's entrance was a desk where a blonde haired lady in her thirties sat, looking at her computer. Kane looked to his right where the clear blue sky was in full view. A gentle breeze embraced him, having found pasage through the window.
" Took you long enough to wake up." Said a firmiliar voice.
Kane immediately froze as he heard her voice. He had heard it only once before but that was enough for him to identify who it was. She sat on a smalll stool, a book in her hand. Her legs were crossed and she assumed an upward position as she read on. Her deep blue eyes trod along the pages of the book. Those deep blue eyes being the only indication of the emotions towards the book, her expression changing not.
She kept her hair in check even as the wind blew it, causing it to block her eyes. Astrenica Cicilia Merlin was the last person Kane wanted to see.
" Just where am I?" Asked Kane.
" In the school's infirmary." Merlin coldy replied
" Why, what happened?"
" You mean you don't remember the scene you made this morning, shouting 'No Fergus , we have to turn back or we'll die'." Said Merlin.
" That doesn't answer why I'm here."
Merlin closed her book and gave a cold stare.
" You passed out shortly after saying those words and Fergus brought you here." She paused." And then I was assigned to look after you like I'm some kind of babysitter." Merlin said the last part with a hint of bitterness.
Kane felt a sharp pain in his head as he tried to piece together his memories to see if what she said was true. He remembered vaguely of such happening but still he felt as if something was missing. Something very crucial.
" Well it appears you seem to be doing well so I shall humbly take my leave." Merlin said as she rose up from the stool. She turned around to leave but she felt a strong grip on her hand. This irritated her very much.
" Listen, I don't intend to to stay here and babysit you ok? So it would be of great service if you..." Merlin shouted as she turned around to face Kane. She immediately went silent.
Kane, who had taken a good hold of her hand, faced down. He was breathing heavily and sweating a little bit too much such that some droplets fell on the bed he lay in. A stream of tears began rolling down his face. One could hear his heart bit get louder.
Merlin, disgusted and somehow horrified by his behaviour tried to retract.
" Kane, just what the hell are you trying to..."
Kane looked at her and their eyes met. The horror in his eyes surprised Merlin. His eyes looked dark, devoid of hope.
" Tempest." Was what he said before he fainted and fell off the bed. Merlin was quick to catch him in her arm.
" Excuse me Miss Belding," she called out to the nurse," Could you please take a look at him, I think he's acting up."
============
Merlin's life had always been of what some would term as boredom. She would wake up everyday, get dressed, have breakfast on her own and leave for school. At school, there wasn't really much that she did. Apart from study and read old historical books, there was nothing else. She did have a few friends, mostly because she was quiet and reserved. Most of the times she kept to herself, only associating with Elizabeth and the rest of the gang if need be.
" Hello. Earth to Merlin. Geez, if we're going to have lunch together, at least don't ignore me." A voice pulled her from her train of thoughts.
It was Emilia grey, a bright and cheerful girl who was a good friend to Merlin. She had long blonde hair and fair white skin. Her trademark was a blue hair clip that she kept at the left side of her hair. Being a forigner, her beauty captivated many so much so she earned a spot an the list of the top ten beauties in the school. Merlin being on top of her. ( You can obviously tell that the ranking was done by men. But what can we do, we are but simple creatures.) Anyways back to the story.
Merlin had earned the title 'The Frozen Lily' due to her beauty yet cold nature. Her friend on the other hand earned the title of 'The Godess' due to her heavenly beauty. Now enough of the minor details. Emilia had invited Merlin to have lunch with her at the flower garden that was in the school.
" Sorry, just got a lot on my mind today."
Emilia opened her oversized luch box only to reveal a serving of rice and a lot of beef stew. Merlin took notice of it.
" Are you sure you should be consuming that much food. I mean, don't you fear you'll gain a lot of weight?" Asked Merlin.
" O Merlin dear," Emilia bega, wearing a broad smile on her face," A wise man once said, ' One must eat to the fullest for they know not when they may perish'." She said that part in a voice thst was meant to immitate a male's voice.
" And I'm sure that man died due to overeating." Merlin joked.
Emilia let out a soft laugh.
" You might be right." Emilia paused." I've been trying to watch my weight by reducing the amount of food I've been eating. Especially junk food."
Merlin took that as good progress. It was very concerning how 'The Godess' had such a 'god like' appetite. Emilia looked around the flower garden. It was full of a large variety of flowers of every colour. There were numerous benches that were situated that allowed all to sit and relax at the nature around them though one could also sit on the grass below. The duo was not alone in the field as others grouped up there to enjoy their luch while communing with their friends. It was a very lively place. The cool breeze and the azure blue sky added to the great experience one could get from the place.
Emilia shifted her focus to Merlin as she seemed to be troubled.
" Hey Emilia, have you ever heard of the word Tempest?"
