Chapter 16 – The General
Cordelia:
— Here, take this potion. It should heal your wounds — she says, pulling a small silver vial from her belt and handing it to Adrian. The liquid inside glows with a soft green hue.
Adrian:
— Thanks, Cordelia — he replies, gulping down the potion with a grimace at its bitter taste.
— Can you still keep going, or would you rather try again tomorrow?
Cordelia:
— I'm fine. You're the one all messed up — she says, crossing her arms.
— But if you can still stand, let's move. I'm not wasting a whole day over a scratch.
Adrian:
— I can take it… But if I pass out, you're carrying me — he says with a tired smile.
Cordelia rolls her eyes but smiles back.
Cordelia:
— Let's go, before your courage runs off.
They move forward, passing through a rusty gate and entering a stone building with walls covered in roots and rubble.
Adrian:
— Hey, Cordelia… what do you think this place was before?
Cordelia:
— Judging by what's left, it looks like a training field. Probably where the old kingdom's soldiers used to train — she says, running her fingers over sword marks on a worn wall.
— Why do you ask?
Adrian:
— I was just thinking… if the soldiers were gathered here like they were at the last place…
BOOM!
A deafening roar shakes the ground.
Adrian instinctively ducks and shouts:
— WATCH OUT! — as he pulls Cordelia aside.
A colossal sword crashes down exactly where they were moments before, splitting the ground with a thunderous blow.
Cordelia:
— What the hell was that?!
Adrian:
— What I was just thinking… is happening again.
They look up.
A giant creature, over three meters tall, emerges from the shadows. Clad in black armor marked with glowing red runes, it wields a massive sword capable of crushing stone walls.
Cordelia:
— Looks like we found the boss…
— Divine Possession! — she shouts, activating her transformation.
Her body becomes surrounded by a golden aura. Her clothes change, gaining angelic patterns, and her eyes shine with sacred light.
She leaps forward and delivers a powerful kick:
— Holy Kick! — she yells. — Die, monster!
The monster blocks the blow with its sword and counters with a brutal punch, sending Cordelia crashing against a far wall.
Cordelia:
— Ugh… damn it…
Cordelia:
— Adrian! Are you okay?!
Adrian:
— Still standing… but I'm almost out of energy — he replies, his voice strained.
Cordelia:
— I have a plan. But it might kill you.
Adrian:
— Let's do it.
Cordelia:
— I'm going to transfer half of my divine energy to you.
While I bind him, you finish him off. Ready?
— We don't have time…
— Now! — she says, placing her hand on his chest.
A surge of divine energy shoots through Adrian like lightning. The ground cracks beneath his feet.
Adrian:
— AAAAARGHH!! — he screams as the energy floods his body.
Cordelia:
— Adrian, it's all yours now!
She turns to the monster.
— Hey ugly… try this! Chains of the Divine Lamb! — Golden chains rise from the ground, locking the monster in place.
— Now, just finish him! Go, Adrian!
Adrian staggers, his body shaking.
Adrian:
— Stand up… get up…
— I didn't come this far to die to some trash…
He rises, his eyes glowing gold.
Adrian:
— DIE!!! DIVINE PUNCH!
BOOOOM!!!
The blast shakes the entire structure. The ground trembles, debris flies, and the sky turns white for a moment.
Adrian:
— I… did it… — he murmurs before collapsing.
Cordelia:
— ADRIAN!! — she runs to him.
She checks his pulse and breathes a sigh of relief, smiling gently.
Cordelia:
— You're still breathing...
— Good night… and thanks for the effort — she says, brushing the hair from his face softly.
