The next morning I was telling Mara about the night before—skipping some information—while she painted my nails.
"She actually did that? She is getting too bold!" Mara said in annoyance just before a knock sounded at the door.
"Come in!" Mara yelled.
An elderly lady stepped into the room, and I recognized her as one of the maids.
She stood by the door, a sealed letter in her hand.
"This just arrived for you."
I frowned. "From who?"
"It doesn't say, Luna."
My stomach twisted at the title.
Mara stepped forward, grabbed the letter, and dismissed the woman. Scanning through the contents, she frowned before placing it on my desk. "It's Jonathan. He's inviting you to lunch in the city."
I stared at it—at my name, scrawled neatly across the parchment.
"Are you going?" Mara asked, watching me carefully.
I swallowed hard.
Then—"Yes."
Because if Kieran thought he could claim me with a kiss—
If he thought I was his—
