Chapter 160 - 160. Trial

Contrary to what one might think of Zovárd Suk at first glance, the boy wasn't crazy. He had some crazy and off-the-wall ideas, but he wasn't stupid. That's why when Kamu grinned and told him that he wanted to see how much Biaskoncy had taught him. Suk knew that they wanted to test him and that he would be smarter if he didn't show how much he knew.

"Fine with me." He finally shrugged, then pulled himself out with a grin. "Who should I beat the shit out of?" He asked, as if he really meant what he said, even though none of it was true. He knew exactly that he would let his opponent beat him.

Kamu didn't even answer him, he just casually raised his left hand and waved. The attack would have seemed like it came out of nowhere to any average person, even an average hegin. But tonight, no one on the shores of this small lake was average. Although Suk decided not to show all his skills, that didn't mean he wouldn't show any of them.

So he skillfully parried the first ambush attack, along with the few subsequent strikes. Only to let his opponent get in some hits and then try to attack back, grumbling. The Athamana members had been playing the game of hiding your skills from strangers for years, which was why Suk didn't even bother to make himself look much weaker and stupider than he really was.

Razvan always told the team that the essence of a good attack is the power of surprise and you can't surprise your enemy with anything more than having them have no idea how strong you are when you attack them. That's why the Zovárd boy played now as if he had hardly learned anything from his new master.

"Congratulations, you lost." Kamu clapped slowly when after a long time Suk fell to the ground with a dagger in front of his throat. Hearing the applause, his attacker immediately stepped back, so the hegin grunted a little, but stood up.

"Does that mean I failed?" Suk asked, but he didn't get the reaction he expected at all. Instead of disappointment, a wide grin sat on the face of the leader of the Immortal Mist.

"No way! It means you passed! Welcome to the Immortal Mist!" The ghost-man chuckled, which made the Zovárd boy open his mouth.

"But I lost!" He grunted, not understanding the situation. Kamu chuckled again and shook his head.

"Yes, but the task wasn't for you to win. The Mist has to be invisible, and for that we have to be able to hide our knowledge. I wanted to see if you could play the game of not knowing anything." As the explanation left the man's mouth, Suk gritted his teeth, he hadn't expected this reaction. "Congratulations, you passed." The smile dissapeared from the assassin leader's face in an instant. "And don't think I don't know how much you learned. I saw you fighting at the Cup." He folded his arms in front of him.

"But you weren't there." Suk blinked hard, but all he managed to do was make Kamu's lips curl into a half smile.

"I was a ghost, I'm usually where there are interesting things. And right now, the Barracks Cup was the most interesting thing." He shrugged, then pulled himself out. "Speaking of Cup, you still have some explaning to do, Biaskoncy! I don't care that you entered politics, but we're not showing our techniques to the world! Your only luck is that you haven't taught him the mist yet." Kamu looked grumpily at the current Vietryk of the Immortal Mist.

"Forgive me, Ishán." Biaskoncy bowed his head.

"What kind of mist?" Suk asked confused, and Kamu started to giggle.

"Why not? Let's show the newbie what it's like when the Mist covers him!" The ghost-man gave the order, and the crowd of assassins began to move around them. Suk looked around with a confused face, but suddenly he didn't see a single figure, only spots that slowly formed a silvery shimmering mist. "Here's the Mist." Kamu spread his arms before the whiteness swallowed his figure too, leaving Suk alone at the edge of the lake.

"If you want to scare me, I warn you, I'm Zovárd, it won't work." The boy shrugged and folded his arms in front of him. However, before he could say anything else, he felt a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back. The Zovárd boy had barely realized it when he found himself in the corridor of the center of the Immortal Mist again, in the company of Kamu and Ajtony.

"Welcome home, relative." Ajtony grinned at the fallen Suk, with his hands clasped behind his back.

"Come on, get up, kid! We'll show you around!" Kamu extended his hand to Suk, which the boy accepted and when the ghost-man started to pull it, he stood up.

"Feel honored, since my death Kamu hasn't taken anyone directly under his hand." The poison-mixing ghost noted.

"Okay..." Suk muttered, while looking suspiciously at the pair in front of him.

"So, the most important places are the archive, the warehouse, the large dining room, my office and the accommodations." He started counting on his fingers. The leader of the Immortal Mist, as he set off down the corridor, and Suk had no choice but to follow the pair. The Zovárd boy didn't really want to be left in the middle of this unknown place.

In the end, the tour lasted so long that Suk started yawning profusely, by the time their three-person team finally reached the office where the Athamanas had listened to the ghost-man's life story. Like last time, Kamu simply collapsed into his chair. Ajtony, on the other hand, just sat down on the tabletop and motioned for his relative to take a seat.

"So, how do you like our little world?" Kamu asked, a wide grin on his face.

"It looks good." The boy from beyond Karrabata began.

"Right? I designed the floor plan. Kamu took care of the details." Ajtony proudly pulled himself out. Kamu was just rolling his eyes, chuckling beside him.

"It wasn't easy to get people to do your crazy ideas." The leader of the Immortal Mist sighed.

"You loved the challenge, don't try to lie." The poison-mixing ghost stuck out his tongue at his best friend.

"I don't want to interfere in your conversation, but what am I here for?" Suk asked, pointing to himself, before both men turned to him, the pair looked at each other for a moment, then at the child.

"I'll train you to be a leader!" Kamu announced with a wide smile, which resulted in Suk folding his arms in front of him.

"And who exactly said that I was in on this whole thing?" The Zovárd boy asked, which made the pair blink at him.
