Mia reached out and patted her father on the back of his hand. She said to him, "It's nothing to worry about, Dad. Even if they are unwilling to let go of us, we will take one thing at a time."
Her gaze fell on the thick plaster on the leg of her father, and she told him, "All you need to do for now is get adequate rest and don't worry about anything. I am here for you, and you are here for me. We will see things through, alright?"
When her father's scowl didn't ease, she said to him, "Hey, this ain't anything but a chicken wing. That's what you told me whenever things went tough, didn't you, Dad?"
Her father smiled upon hearing those words.
He cupped her hand and agreed, "You are right. No matter how tough things get, we still have one another." His heart, however, felt heavy whenever he thought about how his daughter had to pay the debt that was not her own to pay. Thus, he couldn't help but say, "Mia, what do you think about me going back to work?"
