Chapter 1 - Severing Relationship

"Get out of here! My Bai family doesn't have a thief like you!" a middle-aged man in his forties shouted as he shoved a young woman out of the villa.

"Ah!"

Seeing the young woman fall heavily to the ground, a middle-aged woman in an expensive dress and exquisite makeup looked down at her from the top of the stairs and said coldly, "Leave! From now on, I, Qian Weina, sever all ties with you!"

Hearing this, the young woman holding Qian Weina's arm lowered her head and smirked. A second later, she looked up at the woman on the ground.

Putting on a guilty expression, her eyes flickered with disgust and arrogance as she said weakly, "Elder Sister, Li Li knows you hate me. But you shouldn't have secretly bribed the lawyer to change Grandfather's will."

Hearing that, Bai Hanyun sneered and retorted, "Who bribed the lawyer to change Grandfather's will? We all know the truth, Bai Li. I suggest you stop pretending. It's disgusting!"

When Bai Yansheng heard her words, he rushed toward Bai Hanyun, grabbed her by the collar, and slapped her hard.

Slap!

The sound echoed through the surroundings, making the servants lower their heads even more—none daring to meet Bai Yansheng's dark expression.

Seeing this, Bai Li couldn't help but think smugly, 'Bai Hanyun, ah, Bai Hanyun. Even though you are their biological daughter, they still love me more. So what if Grandfather left everything to you? In the end, you are the one who got kicked out of the Bai family. I'm the final winner.'

Slapped by her father, Bai Hanyun's last sliver of hope shattered. She chuckled and coldly met Bai Yansheng's eyes.

"Bai Yansheng, Qian Weina, since you will never accept me as your daughter, then from this day forward, we have nothing to do with each other!"

With that, she pushed Bai Yansheng away and stood up. After gathering her scattered clothes and stuffing them into her small backpack, Bai Hanyun turned and walked away.

Just as she was about to pass through the villa's gate, Qian Weina shouted, "Stop right there!"

Bai Hanyun paused and replied without looking back, her voice laced with mockery, "What, haven't Madam Bai scolded me enough?"

Seeing that Bai Hanyun didn't even spare her a glance, Qian Weina felt a flicker of discomfort but quickly suppressed it and signaled to the butler.

The butler nodded and walked up to Bai Hanyun with a document and a pen. Standing beside her, he said, "Young Lady, please sign this."

Bai Hanyun took the document and scanned it. Upon realizing it was a severance of relationship form, she couldn't help but laugh.

'Very well. Since they want to end things so cleanly, I will give them what they want.'

Having made up her mind, Bai Hanyun signed the document without hesitation. After she handed it back, the butler took out an envelope and said, "Young Lady, this is Madam's compensation for you."

Glancing at the thick envelope, Bai Hanyun took it without a word and walked away with his head held high.

With nothing but a backpack on her shoulders, Bai Hanyun left the Bai family and decided to return to the countryside. There was nothing left for her in this city.

Five days later, Bai Hanyun finally settled down in Fucheng Town.

As usual, she woke up early to prepare breakfast. But when she came downstairs from the second floor, she was shocked to find her living room covered in sand.

Standing on the stairs, Bai Hanyun was speechless.

"...." What the hell is going on here? Is this house haunted or what?

This wasn't the first time something strange had happened. Three days ago, she found an antique mirror in the basement. Thinking it looked nice, she cleaned it and placed it in the living room.

However, ever since she brought the antique mirror out, odd things had started to happen.

Yesterday, she found pieces of bloodstained clothing scattered around the living room. Two days ago, a broken bowl appeared out of nowhere.

It was as if something weird showed up in her living room every single day.

Rubbing her aching forehead, Bai Hanyun sighed and had no choice but to start sweeping the sand.

While she cleaned, she glared at the antique mirror and scolded, "It must be you! I don't care if you are cursed or haunted, but stop throwing garbage into my living room! Cleaning isn't easy!"

Just as she said that, an arrow suddenly shot out from the antique mirror.

Swish!

The arrow flew past Bai Hanyun's cheek, grazing her skin and sticking into the wall.

Thud!

A few seconds later, Bai Hanyun finally came back to her senses. She reached up to touch her cheek. Feeling the stinging pain, she looked at her fingertips, trembling slightly as she saw the blood smeared on them.

After a long pause, she slowly turned her gaze toward the antique mirror, gritting her teeth in anger.

"Fine! Since you are trying to kill me, I will drown you!"

Throwing the broom down furiously, Bai Hanyun stormed over to the antique mirror and grabbed it, heading straight for the river behind her backyard.

Once there, she tied the mirror to a tree by the riverbank with a rope, muttering furiously, "Let's see if you still dare to mess with me after I drown you!"

After securing the rope tightly, Bai Hanyun snorted and marched back into the house to finish sweeping the floor.
