Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: The Battle Begins

After all, everyone present was either rich or noble, and they were among the best Pokémon Trainers. While they hadn't reached the level of an Elite Four Trainer, their age and experience had given them a deeper understanding of people.

Having such knowledge at this young age, along with excellent Pokémon training skills and good character, made Silas stand out. In this case, his status as a commoner was actually a bonus.

Silas quickly gave a few instructions to his Combusken and Roggenrola, who were playing, telling them to head back to the room later. He also let his Pidgeot take care of itself. Once he returned to his room, he immediately began organizing his notes.

For the next two days, Silas spent his mornings at the battle arena, observing his opponents and watching battle footage. In the afternoons, he went fishing to relax, develop patience, and occasionally ask Professor Rowan some questions.

After two days, he had gained a lot. He also became more familiar with his fellow "fishing buddies."

The Fourth Day on the S.S. Anne

Morning.

Silas opened his eyes and put on a black sleeveless shirt and athletic shorts before brushing his teeth and washing his face.

After giving his three Pokémon a simple meal and making sure everything was in order, he headed to the third-deck arena. That was where today's battles would take place.

When he arrived at the battle area, some people were already there waiting. Upon seeing him, they smiled politely.

Silas returned the greetings with a smile.

Over the past two days, he had gotten to know a few people and at least become a familiar face.

Most of them were quite friendly.

From their conversations, Silas learned that the other night, Reggie had been lectured by a few trainers for his comment about treating Pokémon as mere tools.

It was expected. Most trainers saw their Pokémon as partners, not tools. If Reggie had kept his thoughts to himself, that would have been one thing, but saying it out loud was bound to get him a lesson.

Silas figured that by now, Reggie had probably learned his lesson.

As more competitors arrived and the audience gradually filled the stands, the atmosphere in the arena started to heat up.

The people of this world had an almost fanatical passion for Pokémon battles.

A man dressed as an announcer stepped into the middle of the arena, holding a microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the annual S.S. Anne Exhibition Match, hosted by the official Pokémon Gyms of the Kanto region!

As always, over the next two days, we will witness thrilling battles between the young successors of various Gym Leaders, showcasing their outstanding skills.

The rules are simple standard battle format, single-elimination tournament. Each trainer is allowed to switch Pokémon once per match.

Without further ado, let's welcome our first competitors!

From Hailin City Gym, we have Kai Shin, and from PJ City Gym, we have Jinsei! Let's give them a warm welcome!"

The tournament bracket had been drawn the previous night.

The format was as follows:

32 participants, numbered from 1 to 32.

1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, and so on, forming 16 matchups.

The winners of each matchup advanced to the next round.

The winners of Match 1 and Match 2 would face each other, and so on, to determine the Top 8 for the day.

Tomorrow's matchups would be decided by another drawing tonight.

By calculation, there would be 24 matches today, but with only one battlefield, the schedule would be tight. Fortunately, the format was 2v2 battles, with each match lasting around ten minutes.

Including rest periods, the tournament would likely finish just before dinnertime.

Silas watched as the first battle played out, his mind wandering. He had drawn Number 21, meaning his match would be one of the later ones.

He estimated his turn would come around noon perfect timing to finish and grab lunch afterward.

While thinking, the first battle's winner was already decided. Silas instinctively stretched his arms.

It wasn't that he wasn't focused, but at his current level, with two Advance-level Pokémon, he didn't need to overthink his strategies.

He could simply rely on sheer power.

Otherwise, what was the point of spending so much money?

Sure, other trainers invested in their Pokémon too, but they couldn't match his efficiency.

After all, he had Zero, which allowed him to get double or even triple the value out of every investment.

Other trainers, at best, could only bring out the full potential of their resources if that.

However, Silas was well aware that this advantage wouldn't last forever.

As time passed, others would also invest more money and resources efficiently.

At that point, a trainer's ability to command and strategize would become the deciding factor.

That was exactly what he had been working on.

For the next two hours, Silas observed various battles, paying extra attention to his stronger opponents.

Finally, his turn arrived.

"Next up, we have Silas from Pewter City Gym against Tetsuo from WW City Gym!"

Hearing the announcer's voice, Silas immediately recalled his opponent's information.

With a calm and steady pace, he stepped onto the Trainer's podium.

His opponent, Tetsuo, also stood firmly on the opposite side.

The moment Silas stepped onto the battlefield, the audience's excitement grew noticeably louder.

He could hear scattered voices from the crowd—

"Wow, he's so handsome!"

"So cool!"

"Look at those muscles!"

Indeed, while most people in this world were attractive, someone with Silas's level of looks and physique was still rare.

However, Silas tuned out the noise.

As soon as the referee signaled the start, both trainers simultaneously sent out their Pokémon.

"Go, Roggenrola!"

"Go, Furret!"

Tetsuo was from the Martial Gym, which focused on Normal- and Fighting-type Pokémon.

According to his profile, he had a Standard-tier Furret and a Hitmonchan that was close to Advance-tier.

Tetsuo was well aware of Silas's strength.

Silas was one of the four strongest trainers in this tournament and possibly the strongest of them all.

However, giving up was not an option.

Both trainers gave commands at the same time—

"Set up Stealth Rock! Use Mud-Slap to obscure its vision!"

"Defense Curl! Coil up to avoid mud in the eyes!"

The two Pokémon moved swiftly.

Roggenrola let out a cry as several invisible floating rocks appeared around the battlefield.

Only it knew their exact locations.

Any Pokémon moving or switching in would be hit by them.

Then, it gathered dirt from the ground, infused it with energy, and hurled it at Furret.

Meanwhile, Furret curled into a ball, activating Defense Curl and Coil.

This increased its Attack, Defense, and focus while minimizing the chance of mud hitting its eyes.

"Use Gravity to shrink the field and launch Rock Tomb!" Silas commanded calmly.

At this level, Furret had no reliable long-range attacks.

Defense Curl and Coil were useless in this situation.

Roggenrola only needed to control the distance and keep attacking.

Tetsuo quickly analyzed the situation.

On a standard battlefield, a single Quick Attack wouldn't be enough to close the gap completely.

"Agility! Circle around and dodge Rock Tomb!"

Roggenrola became the center of a localized gravity field, causing the ground around it to slightly sink.

Then, it began hurling rocks at Furret.

Furret's agile body weaved through the attacks, gradually closing the distance.

However, suddenly It jerked to a stop, as if hit by an invisible force.

In that brief hesitation, Roggenrola's Rock Tomb struck.

Then another.

And another.

A series of crushing blows rained down on Furret.
