Nemia sat up, panting and drawing her legs closer to her. Biting her lip softly as she reflected on her dream. It's been ten long years since she had seen something other than that scar faced wolf.
'So, you was ready tonight...' Adira's mind brushed against her own. She could tell her wolf was upset with her own self for not believing Nemia earlier. 'When did you decide? How come I couldn't feel the shift in your decision?'
They were good questions, but Nemia wasn't quite sure herself. 'It.. just happened. I can't explain it but, when he was wrapped around me, holding me in my weakest state of mind. When I finally found a strength to pull back and look up at him. He... The way he looked at me. Not like something broken and in need of repair, but more like with a care so deep he would walk through fires to get to me if it meant he could. I knew in that moment that he wasn't going to go anywhere, which has been my biggest fear in all of this.' Nemia smiles softly to herself, her head nuzzling her own shoulder. 'I decided then. I knew then, what I wanted. Yes, I wanted to forget what Donovan had said for the moment. But in reality I just wanted him.'
She could feel Adira filling with a puffy pride and happiness in her mental chest. 'We have a mate.'
She practically hears the thumping of Adira's tail, though not actually. She smiled and bit her lip. "We have a mate." She whispered out loud even though she was talking to her wolf. She just wanted to hear herself claim it without it being a bond induce proclamation.
'Though, that still doesn't answer why I couldn't feel your shift to know it was true.' Adira stated with a confused huff.
Nemia shrugged her shoulders. 'That, I can't answer.' She glanced down at her hands, a fleeting glimpse of the memory containing her hands glowing bright and heating, slipped through. 'Maybe it's just a me thing?' She questioned more to herself.
'Maybe.' Adira replied with about as much confidence in the answer that Nemia had about it herself.
She stood then, walking around the room. Pacing as she stared at her hands, palms up and out. 'I don't even know how it happened.'
She tried triggering it, flexing her hands. "And... Now.. nope. Ugh!" She tried and tried again but every time it was just the same. Nothing happened. "What good is a new power if I can't figure out how to get it to even work." She growled, flexing her hands again as a wave of anger swept through at her lack of control in this.
Then, it happened. A blinding white light flashed across her palms and instantly caused a wave of heat to blast her face.
"Aha!" She exclaimed. "Of course it's anger." The rush of excitement in getting it to work caused the light to fade fast. She frowned. She focused on the thought of Malcolm, his wolf standing over her alpha. As the rage bubbled, she focused it to run through her body. Guiding it to a ball in her stomach then spreading up her chest and down her arms to the palms of her hands. A small flicker, another. Then the white light started pulsating in her palms. Each pulse emitting another wave of heat. She continued to focus on thoughts that enraged her, sending waves of anger down to her palms and the light grew. It was almost as if she was staring straight into the sun. 'Solis, did he really give me the power of the sun?' Her thought breaking her concentration of anger caused the power to stop flowing out of her palms.
She blinked a few times, getting her eyesight back. She glanced around the room and noticed the paint on the walls had seemed to start melting and the white covers and pillows on her bed was singed from heat. "Maybe I shouldn't practice in here." She mumbled softly to herself, her lips twitching at the corners.
She walked over to the bedside table and grabbed her phone to check the time. Hitting the power button to unlock it, the screen flashed on and the time read 7:38 A.M. and with a quick glimpse up in the corner she noticed the little red bar and 6% displayed next to the battery bar.
She hasn't used it since before the formal and it had been fully charged then. That was a day and a half ago, and she hadn't been home to charge it. She glanced around the room, maybe there was a charger in here. If not, she'd go over to see if Julia has one on her. Which was very probable with her.
She searched around in the drawers on the dresser and also in the desk over in the corner but neither of them help a charger. She sighed, she really didn't like disturbing other people in their room but, she needed a charger.
She stepped out into the hall, glancing up and down but seeing no one. She shrugged and walked down to the room just down from hers on the left.
Knock knock knock. She rapped on Julia's door and her ears pricked to the low grumbling coming from inside. After a few moments a sleepy eyes Julia cracks open the door, rubbing her left eye tiredly. "What is it Nemia?" She asked worriedly, realizing it was Nemia knocking before she was awake.
"Did you bring your charger?" She asked quickly and gave a sheepish grin.
Julia eyebrows knitted together. "A charger?" She grumbled, confused. "A charger..." She repeated with a sigh and turned, heading back into her room. "Lemme check." She called over her shoulder.
Nemia propped up against Julia's doorframe as she waiting, looking down and picking at her nails.
"Don't do that."
Nemia jumped around, spinning and her right fist connecting with Nik's jaw in one fluid motion. His head snapped back and the rest of his body followed as his feet lifted off the ground and he flew back into the wall across the hall.
"Oh shit! Nik!" Nemia exclaimed and rushed over, helping Nik to his feet. He flashed an angry look, but brushed it off relatively fast and chuckled while rubbing his jaw.
"Oof, so don't sneak up on you. Got it." He chuckled again.
Nemia shook her head then tilted it back as she let out a laugh. "You really shouldn't. But God's you scared the devil outta me." She gently smacked his shoulder playfully.
"Got i-.. what happened out here in the few seconds I was gone?" Julia was standing back in her doorway, starting at Nemia and Nik laughing together with Nik still rubbing his jaw.
"May have snuck up on Nemia, word of the wise.. even if you see an opportunity, don't do it." He laughed again.
Nemia grinned sheepishly yet again. "I am sorry... Kinda." She giggled and walked back over to Julia. "Thanks." She said as she reached for the charger in Julia's hand.
"No problem. But... Seriously, you got snuck up on?" She questioned with a single brow raised.
Nemia scrunched her face. "I got a lot of things on my mind, even I slip up. Especially when I feel any form of safety."
"Touche, you got me there. I'm just surprised is all." Julia retorted.
Nemia shrugged. "Me too, I'll go beat myself up about it now while I charge my phone." She smiled, showing Julia she wasn't actually being serious about beating herself up.
She turned then and started to head back to her room but was stopped as Nik stepped away from the wall finally and held up a hand. "Wait, I wasn't just scrolling though, hoping to catch you off guard and scare you. Dorian sent me. He wants to see you in his conference room at nine to discuss the C.J.L.S."
Nemia's brows knitted together for a moment. "Why me? Shouldn't he be discussing that with the other board members? I know he'll need to explain to them about Donovan but, I shouldn't need to be there. I'm just a bounty hunter." She stated the last part blatantly.
Nik shrugged his shoulders. "He said he wants you there. The board members will be meeting with you and him both. I'm not sure of all his discussion plans though."
Nemia sighed and nodded her head. "Okay, I'll be there then I suppose." She frowned slightly and glanced over to Julia's room, which still has Julia standing in the doorway. "Are you going to stay awake?"
Julia nodded. "Yeah, probably."
"After I throw my phone on the charger, wanna go have breakfast before I'm shipped off to a meeting?"
"Sure thing, will only take a moment to get ready." Julia replied with a cheeky smile, spinning and re-entering her room and shutting the door behind her.
Nemia glanced back over to Nik. "You joining?"
Nik shook his head. "No, I got work to do right now. Damage control and all. But I'll come grab you from the dining hall at 8:45 to show you the way to the conference room."
Nemia nodded. "Alrighty then, see ya then."
He tipped his head, spun on his heels and stolled back down the hall. Nemia sighed, walked back into her room and put her phone on charge. She opened it to glance at the notifications and seen the three missed calls from Milli. "Oh poor Milli." She mumbled to herself as she stared at the name. Feeling sorry for her, realizing she was probably feeling that Donovan hadn't been back there in over twenty-four hours. She'll find out soon enough though, after the meeting when the other board members learn of his transgressions. Served the bastard right.
