Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8

Upon hearing what Megan just said, Dr. Kai snapped. His calm mask cracked instantly.

His face twisted in fury, and without even thinking, he shouted across the scene at her.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" he barked, his voice echoing through the VIP space, cutting into the tension like a knife.

Immediately the room fell silent again.

Then Kai took a step forward, his finger pointed directly at Megan.

"Does this place look like a jungle to you?" he spat. "Do you think this is some local backyard where your traditional guesswork will save lives?!"

Immediately gasps came from the people standing around.

"Don't you dare touch that woman!" Kai continued, his voice rising. "This is not your profession. This is not your field. You're not registered. You're not licensed. You have no right!"

His chest heaved slightly, and he looked ready to explode.

"If you lay your hands on this lady and anything happens to her…" he said, stepping even closer to Megan, "I swear, I will make sure you pay for it. For deceiving people. For trying to act like you're something you're not. I'll ruin you for it."

Hearing what Kai just said Whispers broke out instantly.

"Wait… is she really challenging Dr. Kai?"

"Does she even know who he is?"

"He's an international doctor… award-winning…"

"He's treated senator's. Foreign diplomats. Celebrities."

"Who is this woman?"

Some of the bystanders began to point at Megan, their faces twisted in confusion and disapproval. A few even looked disgusted, not just by her boldness, but by how she looked—her old clothes, her plain old shoes, her quiet, battered dignity.

"She doesn't even look like a nurse," someone whispered.

"Why would she challenge Dr. Kai?"

"Is she mad?"

But Megan didn't say a word. She stood still, her face unreadable.

Then, just as the murmurs began to grow louder, Oliver stepped forward with authority in his steps.

He stood directly between Kai and Megan.

His voice was deep, clear, and firm.

"That's enough, Kai. Step back."

Kai blinked, shocked.

"Let Lady Megan handle the situation." Oliver continued. "She knows what she's doing."

At that moment, Dr. Kai couldn't help but shake his head in disbelief. He let out a loud, annoyed breath and looked at Oliver like he'd just been betrayed.

"Are you hearing yourself, Oliver?" he asked, his tone filled with disappointment and pride. "You want me to allow her to handle the situation? How is that even possible?"

He took a step forward, his hands raised in frustration.

"That's not going to happen. Not here. Not in front of me. I will never allow a woman with no medical license—someone who calls herself a traditional herbal doctor or whatever—to touch a patient in my presence. Never."

His voice was louder now, echoing across the room, drawing the full attention of every bystander once again.

"This is a disgrace!" he shouted. "A disgrace to my profession!"

And just like that, people in the crowd began to nod and speak up, joining Dr. Kai's side.

"He's right!" someone said.

"Dr. Kai is the real doctor here!"

"She has no tools, no training—this isn't a market place!"

"Just wait for the ambulance. He said she has ten minutes!"

Another person added, "She shouldn't even be near the patient!"

But Megan didn't flinch, she looked around at them with calm eyes, then turned back to the woman on the floor still unconscious, still motionless, her husband now holding her hand with tears streaming down his face.

"I don't have time for this," Megan said firmly, her voice cutting through the noise like a blade. "Like I said before… she has two minutes. Not five. Two. And if no one does anything now, she's going to die right here in front of all of you even the ambulance comes."

The whispers paused again.

Megan looked at the husband. Then at the woman. Then back at Dr. Kai.

"I'm not here to argue. I'm here to save her."

And without wasting another second, Megan began walking toward the woman.

She stepped with purpose, her eyes locked on the dying mother-to-be. Her hands were already halfway to rolling up her shirt a a little, her mind focused on what needed to be done.

But then—Dr. Kai suddenly moved in front of her, blocking her path.

He stood tall, arms crossed over his chest, feet firmly planted.

"You're not touching her," he said, his voice low and hard.

At that moment, Megan gave Dr. Kai the kind of look that could freeze fire.

It wasn't fear, It wasn't frustration.

It was pure, sharp disgust.

She had been keeping quiet long enough letting his arrogance slide, letting him insult her, mock her, ridicule her worth. She swallowed every word, every insult, just to keep her peace.

But now… a life was on the line. And she wasn't going to let this woman die just because Dr. Kai's pride was louder than his heart.

Her eyes narrowed, and her voice came out like thunder wrapped in steel.

"I've kept quiet for too long. Kai."

Everyone in the room froze again.

"All the insults you threw at me… all the ways you tried to drag my name into the dirt… I let it go."

She took one step closer, her finger pointed directly at his chest.

"But I will not, I will never—let a woman die just because you want to play god."

The room stayed silent, tension stretching tight in the air.

"Get out of my face." Megan's tone was like ice.

However Kai didn't move. He stood there like a statue, arms crossed, looking down on her like she was still beneath him.

At that moment Megan's jaw clenched. Her breath came slower, deeper. The air around her shifted. Even Oliver, standing nearby, took a half-step back, sensing what was about to happen.

She repeated again, firmer this time.

"I said, get out of my way."

Again Kai still didn't move.

He didn't speak either. But the smirk on his face said it all. He thought she was bluffing. He thought she wouldn't dare.

But that was his last mistake.

In a blink, Megan stepped forward. In one swift, practiced motion, she grabbed Kai by his wrist and shoulder, twisted his balance in a clean angle, and with a shocking force she flipped him, Flipped him clean over.

Seeing what just happened gasps exploded around the restaurant as Dr. Kai's back hit the marble floor with a deep, echoing thud. Glasses clinked on tables. People screamed. Chairs scraped as the entire room watched the proud doctor the same man who moments ago insulted her crash to the ground.

At that moment Kai lay on his back, his eyes wide, trying to understand what just happened.

Megan stood above him, eyes burning with fury. Her voice was low, but powerful.

"Let this be the last time you ever talk to me that way."

She leaned down slightly, not even breaking a sweat.

"Ever try to belittle me again… and I promise you, you'll leave with more than a bruised ego. I don't take nonsense from anybody anymore."

Kai's breathing was shaky. He blinked, trying to move, but his leg twisted awkwardly. The pain shot up his side and across his back. He let out a sharp gasp and gritted his teeth.

He was angry, he was humiliated.

But most of all… he was in real pain.

He wanted to get up. He wanted to fight back. But the impact was too much. His legs felt heavy, numb even. A sharp pain ran up his left side. He touched it and winced.

Then the realization hit him hard.

He couldn't stand.

He looked up at Megan, this time not with arrogance… but with shock and fear.

"What… what kind of strength does this woman have?" he thought.

He felt like something was broken. Maybe his leg… or his ribs. Or his pride. Or maybe all three.
