Still, none of them could even give an answer about the identity of Megan. The stares, the whispers, the curiosity—it was everywhere, but not a single person knew who she truly was.
They were just shocked, frozen by the strange sight in front of them Oliver apologizing like a guilty man, and Kai, the ever-proud, untouchable doctor, trailing behind them with a smug look like he still controlled the room.
Everyone had questions, but no one had answers.
Then, just as Megan was about to take another step toward the exit, the atmosphere changed completely.
A loud gasp came from one corner of the restaurant, followed by the heavy thud of someone collapsing to the ground.
"Somebody help!" a man's voice cried out.
All heads turned immediately.
A heavily pregnant woman had just collapsed to the floor. Someone dropped to his knees beside her, panic written all over his face as he shouted her name. Her eyes were closed. Her body was limp. Her breathing was shallow if there was any breath at all.
Gasps filled the air. Dishes were left untouched. Waiters rushed from behind the bar. The smooth, luxury atmosphere of the restaurant turned into sudden chaos.
The woman's skin had gone pale. Her hands were kind of cold.
"Call an ambulance!" someone shouted.
Phones were being pulled out. Numbers were dialed. One of the restaurant managers already had his phone pressed to his ear, pacing quickly, trying to give directions.
But there was fear, deep fear on everyone's faces.
From the look of the lady's condition, it was clear something was very wrong. Something urgent needed to be done. And it didn't look like the ambulance was going to get there on time.
The woman wasn't responding. She had just gone blank. Motionless.
People gathered around in panic. Some were fanning her. Some were holding her wrist, checking for a pulse.
Then, in the middle of the panic, someone turned around and shouted, pointing with wide eyes—
"Dr. Kai!"
Immediately heads turned.
"Dr. Kai is here!" another voice repeated. "He's a world-class doctor!"
More people began to turn toward Kai, faces full of relief. The panic started to ease just a little, they knew him. Everyone knew him.
"Please, Dr. Kai, help her!" someone cried.
"You're the only one who can save her!" another person shouted.
They began to praise him loudly, like a hero had arrived just in time.
"This is nothing for him, he's saved lives in worse situations!"
"Yes, Kai can handle this. She's going to be in the right hand!"
People started making space around the woman, looking toward Kai with hope in their eyes.
Seeing the accolades, hearing the praises flooding his ears, Dr. Kai immediately raised his shoulders high, pride rising in him like steam.
This this was his moment.
This was the perfect opportunity to not only show off his skill but to prove to Megan, once and for all, that both of them were never on the same level.
He came here tonight to put her in her place, to talk some sense into her arrogant head. All that talk about healing, about helping people in prison were guesswork, as far as he was concerned. Nothing more.
In Kai's mind, he still doubted if Oliver was ever truly sick. He felt like maybe it was all in Oliver's head. Maybe just stress. Or maybe… Megan tricked him, played into his weakness, just to gain favor. She saw his name, saw his status, and decided to use it.
To Kai, it all made sense. She didn't heal him.
She acted, she guessed.
But now? This moment right here? This was his stage.
He would show everyone including Megan that real skill lives in precision, in education, in title. Not prison miracles.
At that moment, with his chin slightly lifted and a small smirk tugging the edge of his lips, Kai stepped closer to the woman lying on the floor.
People made space for him, whispering with hope.
"That's him he's about to save her."
"Doctor Kai's about to step in."
"Thank God he's here."
He didn't rush, he took his time. He wanted everyone to see him work.
At that moment he knelt down gently beside the woman. Her husband quickly moved back, relief flashing through his tear-filled eyes.
Kai gave a slow, almost dramatic breath as he touched her forehead.
Then he placed two fingers under her chin. Then lightly on her wrist. He checked her eyes. Her skin. He bent down, listening to her breathing.
People watched quietly. Waiting. Trusting.
After about a minute, Kai stood up, fixing the collar of his designer shirt slowly, already feeling the weight of applause building behind him.
Seeing Dr. Kai stand up almost immediately like he had barely spent a full minute with the collapsed woman everyone around gasped softly in amazement.
He hadn't panicked, he didn't fumble.
He didn't even ask questions.
It was like he knew exactly what was wrong just by touching her once.
And just like that, the praises exploded again.
"Wow… That's Dr. Kai for you!"
"That's why he's number one."
"No one else can move with this kind of confidence!"
"All the top politicians… even international hospitals—they all want him!"
"He doesn't need machines. He doesn't need help. He just knows!"
Whispers turned into quiet applause, and admiration filled the air like perfume.
The husband of the pregnant lady stared at Kai with hope in his eyes, holding his wife's hand, still shaking but thankful that someone like him was present at that moment.
Dr. Kai, soaking in every bit of the attention, slowly adjusted his wristwatch, glanced at the room like a man who carried the answers to life, and began to speak in his usual calm but proud voice.
"She still has ten minutes," he said. "Exactly ten minutes."
Immediately everyone froze. Their faces dropped in fear again.
"Her condition is very, very serious," Kai continued, his face turning more serious. "She needs to be taken to a hospital immediately."
People nodded quickly, phones already in hand, calls still going through to the ambulance services.
Kai shook his head a little and looked down at the lady again.
"If this had happened somewhere else… she would be gone before help even came."
He sighed and placed his hand in his pocket, turning back toward the husband.
"I'm extremely busy right now," he said. "I have appointments lined up, surgeries I need to supervise—people waiting for me in three different hospitals."
He paused. Then looked the man directly in the eyes.
"But I'll make time. I'll make sure I personally do the surgery myself to get the baby out of her and fix what is wrong with her."
Gasps filled the room again.
"Thank you, doctor!" someone shouted from behind.
"God bless you!" another voice added.
Kai nodded slightly, pleased with their reactions.
"That is going to be the easy way out," he said confidently. "But here, right now, without the right equipment, without a proper team or setup, there's nothing I can do on this floor."
He turned to one of the restaurant managers.
"Make sure the ambulance gets here in less than five minutes. Otherwise… it might be too late."
However, seeing what was going on, Megan had no plans to say anything. She didn't come here to prove herself. She didn't come here to argue with anyone especially not with a man like Kai who clearly believed he knew everything.
But as she stood there… watching the woman lying helplessly on the ground…She could see it clearly.
From the way the woman's stomach had shifted, the shallow rising of her chest, and the pale, bluish tint creeping onto her lips Megan didn't need a machine or scan to understand what was happening.
And from the look of things, it wasn't Ten minutes left.
It was less than two.
The baby was already under distress, and the mother—she was empty inside. The signs were subtle to anyone who hadn't seen it firsthand, but Megan saw it right away.
The woman wasn't just unconscious, She was crashing fast.
There was no time.
And that was what finally pushed Megan to step in.
She spoke firmly, her voice rising just enough to cut through the noise.
"She doesn't have ten minutes."
The whole room went quiet.
Hearing Megan words everyone turned, Oliver froze, Even Kai's eyes narrowed.
Megan didn't wait for approval. Her tone was calm, but commanding—different from the quiet woman who had walked into the restaurant earlier.
"She has two minutes maybe less," Megan continued. "The baby is in distress, and the mother is empty internally. If nothing is done right now, both of them will die."
A silence spread across the crowd. Whispers stopped. Even the phones stopped ringing.
Without wasting anymore time Megan stepped forward.
"Everyone, give me space. Step back now."
