Chapter 5 — Looking into the Abyss
Time in the CCG flowed quickly and mercilessly. Every day — a new task, new knowledge and new challenges. Kaneki no longer felt like a newbie, although inside he continued to struggle with his own doubts. His system, as always, reminded: "To increase the chances of survival — study, train, adapt."
The morning began with intensive training.
"Your reflexes are good," the instructor said, watching Kaneki's movements. "But without the hunter's instinct, you will remain only a student."
Kaneki nodded, feeling how cold understanding sank into his consciousness. "The hunter's instinct… What is it for me?" he thought.
That day, a call came in: a suspicion of a large group of ghouls spotted in the industrial area.
"Team, get ready!" the order rang out.
The journey to the scene took several minutes. Kaneki rode in the car with Haruka and the other hunters, feeling the weight of responsibility and the desire to act.
The area was silent, broken only by the distant sounds of the city.
"It's too quiet here," the captain noted, "Ghouls don't usually hide in such open places without a reason."
Suddenly, a ghoul jumped out from around the corner, massive and aggressive. The fight began instantly.
Kaneki acted quickly but with restraint, studying the enemy's movements and looking for weak points.
"Remember," the system reminded, "every mistake can cost you your life."
The battle was fierce, but Kaneki prevailed with a precise strike.
After the fight, when silence returned, Haruka approached him with concern in her eyes:
"You look tired. How are you feeling?"
"The system requires improving endurance skills," he replied with a slight smile.
"Then let's get to work."
So Kaneki began not only hunting ghouls, but also working on himself, physically and mentally. His inner world was changing, but his goal remained the same: to protect people and destroy ghouls.
