Chapter 23 - The Demon

"Demon Summoner (Lv 6)

Attribute / DARK

Type / Fiend

ATK / 2500 DEF / 1200"

You Ming gazed at his lone monster on the field and sighed, glancing at his empty hand. One Level-6 no-effect monster and three set cards? He'd spent six cards just to play this… embarrassing.

But the dark forces opposite didn't seem amused.

"Tch," the Invader muttered, eyeing the field. "A 2500 ATK demon right off the bat—definitely not to be taken lightly." You Ming caught a glimmer of wariness in those crimson eyes. "Don't underestimate him, kid."

The Demon Lord folded his arms and sneered at his partner's caution. You Ming nearly walked over for a hug—"Seriously, it's just a 2500 ATK demon…"

"No special abilities," You Ming remarked. "Fairly weak, actually."

That eased the tension—he liked opponents who looked afraid. Confident, arrogant—

"Watch me crush this thing!"

---

"My turn!" roared the Demon Lord as a red light glowed from his chest armor.

"Draw!"

He pulled a card from his blade-mounted deck—an evil grin spreading across his face.

"Now you'll witness real demon power!" He slammed a card onto his wing.

"Magic Card: Fusion!"

Dark mist swirled into a vortex. The demon on the field shimmered, merging with the spirit in the vortex.

"I consume Mist Demon to evolve this demon to a higher form!"

Mist Demon vanished in the fog, leaving behind a purple glow.

"Demon Manifestation!"

A more powerful demon materialized:

"Demon Manifestation (Lv 6)

Attribute / DARK

Type / Fiend

ATK / 2500 DEF / 1200"

---

You Ming looked at the mirror-image demon and shook his head inside.

"Just a new outfit," he muttered. Same stats, same everything—only difference was the effect.

A dark pulse echoed across the field, and the Demon Lord grinned.

"Don't think it's just like your demon, kid," he said. "This demon buff's itself—and its fellows."

"Meaning?" You Ming frowned.

"+500 ATK!"

The demon surged from 2500 to 3000 ATK.

"Now that's the true might of a demon—pure darkness."

---

You Ming gaped at the arrogant celebration. The Demon Lord's teeth gleamed under dark armor.

"Got anything to say?"

You Ming realized he couldn't argue—it was impressive, at least.

He massaged his temples and sighed.

"You're not even as good as Kris."

"What did you say?"

"Why not use an eight-star dude?"

The Demon Lord cocked his head. "Whatcha mumbling about?"

The Invader, hood pulled low, had turned his gaze away. He'd lost interest once the boast started.

"Leave him," You Ming waved off. "Go on—stop wasting time."

"You doubt me?" asked the Demon Lord.

"Whatever. At least they moved."

"Fill me in on your plan!"

---

"Alright."

You Ming summoned:

"Demon Cavalry (Lv 4)

Attribute / DARK

Type / Fiend

ATK / 1900 DEF / 0"

A ghostly locomotive demon grinned with flame-filled eyes, but never got to attack.

A fierce crash shattered the ceiling.

"Roar!" A savage beast leapt into the battlefield.

"Berserk Demon!"

Amid shattered debris, the Demon Lord slapped down the card, roaring with anticipation.

A chaotic howl—the Cavalry was obliterated into a smear of gore, spear still impaled in the ground.

"It uses the destruction of other Demon monsters to unleash berserk fury… then…"

Amid the carnage, a pale card drifted down.

"Special Summon!"

A dark swampy aura seeped. A new demon emerged, walking forward with a feral cry.

The board was now dominated by the fearsome Berserk Demon.
