Chapter 22 - Doubles Match

From a player's bird's-eye view, notions of justice are relative.

Just by looking at the factions, You Ming doesn't judge things so easily. If needed, he might even leave Kaiba Corporation and side with the enemy. But right now? There's no choice.

In his mind, a rebellion backed by a weapons empire still sounded significant—while the "Demon Lord's forces" felt abstract and frightening:

Invading bases at will.

Launching attacks without warning.

In a world about cards, they resort to brute force.

Even their "offer" felt coercive.

Plus... there's another boss-level opponent looming.

---

"What are you staring at?" the Invader growled.

"Nothing," You Ming replied, inching toward his deck. "I just think we should talk less and play more."

No matter the conflict, in Yu-Gi-Oh! the conversation always returns to dueling.

He reached for his deck… and the atmosphere warped. The Invader's face turned serious. The Demon Lord's gaze grew murderous.

---

"What? Did my suggestion offend you?" You Ming asked, glancing at Naya. The boy shrugged.

"Here, issuing a duel challenge means fight to the death."

So, "sitting calmly and playing cards" was really bloodshed waiting to happen?

Still, You Ming stood his ground.

"What do you think?"

"No problem from me," Naya said, setting his Mirror Shield aside. "I want to teach those invaders a lesson."

He snapped his fingers.

A swirl of green light flashed. Black smoke poured out from Naya, sealing the gateway—and the entire battlefield.

When the smoke cleared, Naya tossed You Ming a Duel Disk and duel gun.

---

"This is…"

A Duel Disk identical to the one Kris once used.

"A duel disk—everyone needs a weapon in this setting."

You Ming snapped it onto his wrist and slotted the gun—his Duel Disk activated.

"I'll accept."

Naya mirrored him, sliding his disk onto his arm.

"You won't refuse this 'invitation,' will you, demon? I still have questions for you."

The Invader ground his teeth:

"You ruined my perfect assassination…"

"Not a big deal, we don't have to—"

"SHUT UP!"

He slammed his hand, and his armored arm reshaped into a Duel Disk—with savage elegance.

"Then give it everything you've got!"

The Demon Lord jabbed his sword into the ground, revealing Duel Disks embedded in the blade and gauntlet.

"Let's duel!"

---

"Duel!"

You Ming & Naya LP: 8000

Invader & Demon Lord LP: 8000

Classic tag-team duel, same life points for both sides. But rules? That part wasn't specified.

"How do we ensure they can't cheat?" You Ming asked.

"No need," Naya replied. "The ritual handles it."

A black mist surged inward, merging into their Duel Disks. The decks auto-shuffled in place.

Then a click—green lights glowed on each Disk.

"I have the first move?" you Ming asked?

"Yes."

"Awesome—I go first!"

Getting first-turn six cards in an early era meant a big edge—no hand traps to stop you back then!

He promptly drew.

"Main Phase…"

He stared at his six-card hand—but realized they'd drawn all traps. Monsters and power plays were limited.

He discarded "Attic Fiend" to activate "Cost Reduction"—all monsters in his hand dropped 2 levels this turn.

Now he could summon his Level 6 "Demon Summoner" without tributes.

He set three back-row cards and ended his turn.
