Chapter 5

Rem stood before a circle of higher-ups, their sharp eyes fixed on him.

"What happened?" the man seated at the front asked, his voice low and steady.

Rem tilted his head slightly. "What happened? If you're asking about the devil that came after me… I killed it. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less."

The old man tapped his fingers against the table, a quiet, steady rhythm. "Why did it target you specifically?"

Rem shrugged. "As you probably know, I was assigned to track down those Pain cultists stirring up trouble in Tokyo. I took out some of them. Turns out one of them had a contract with that thing."

The higher-ups exchanged glances, a silent conversation passing between them, before one gave a small nod to the man in front.

"Did it speak to you?" he asked. "If so — what did it say?"

" "It spoke in some ancient tongue. I couldn't catch every word, but from what I gathered, it wanted to make a contract with me."

One of the higher-ups on the right side leaned forward. "Did you... accept it?"

"Nope," Rem replied with a smile

"Then how did you kill it?"

"I sliced it in half. Like — swoosh." Rem made a chopping gesture with his hand, causing a few people in the room to flinch.

"And after that?"

"After I got out?" Rem blinked. "I went to a restaurant, grabbed a meal, then headed back to my apartment and... well, jerked off to sleep."

A heavy silence hung in the room before the man at the front raised a hand. "Alright. That's enough." He let out a tired sigh. "You're dismissed. Make sure you file your report."

"Yes, sir." Rem gave a casual bow and strolled out.

The room hung in tense silence, everyone exchanging uneasy glances until the door creaked open. A woman stepped inside — mid-twenties, with deep red hair and unsettling orange eyes, empty and unreadable. A faint smile played on her lips.

"Was he telling the truth?" one of the higher-ups at the left asked, his voice low.

She nodded slightly. " partially. Most of it was mixed with lies.except for the last part. That was true"

Rem stood outside, a smug grin tugging at his face as he glanced back at the door the red-haired woman had entered through. Then his eyes shifted forward.

Kishibe leaned against the wall nearby, taking a slow drink from his flask. A black-haired girl stood beside him.

"Welcome back," Kishibe muttered without looking.

Rem scowled. "Tch. So, you told them everything, huh? Did you also tell them that your little crush is a lesbian, or did you conveniently left that part out? Or should I head back in and fill them in?"

"A lesbian…?" the girl beside Kishibe murmured under her breath, confused.

Kishibe didn't bite. "There's been devil activity spotted at the Kitano Hotel in Tokyo. Go take care of it."

Rem's eyes widened mockingly. "Oh sure, your highness. Want me to polish your balls while I'm at it?"

Kishibe sighed. "Almost forgot — this is Himeno. New recruit for Division 4."

The girl gave a quick, nervous bow. "I'm Himeno. It's an honor to meet you, senpai!"

Rem sneered, stepping in close until his face was inches from hers. "He already said your name, dumbass. No need to repeat it unless you're stalling 'cause you want my attention Huh?" His glare drilled into her. "tell me....Ahhh...whats your name again ?."

Himeno looked at Kishibe with an expression that screamed ' please help me ! '

Kishibe sighed again. "Yeah… I'll leave you to it. Take care of her, Rem."

"No—wait, don't leave me with him!" Himeno called after him. But Kishibe was already gone.

She turned back, eyes wide, only to meet Rem's cold stare.

"M-my name is Himeno…"

Rem grinned darkly. "Yeah? Well, fuck you I'm not calling you that. From now on, you're 'Dumbass.' Survive a month, and maybe you'll earn your name back."

" yes, sir," she muttered, bowing her head.

Rem started walking, and Himeno quickly fell in behind him.

"What's your name again?" Rem asked without looking back.

"It's Himeno, sir."

"I said — what's your name again?" he repeated, his voice edged with amusement.

"…D-Dumbass" she answered reluctantly.

Rem smirked. "Good. Nice to meet you, Dumbass. What devil did you make a contract with?" he asked, his eyes dropping to her chest with a crooked grin. "Milk Devil?"

"W-What?! N-No — it's the Ghost Devil!" she snapped, flustered.

Amusement flickered across Rem's face. "Ooh, the Ghost Devil, huh? Not bad… as long as you don't pick fights with devils out of your league you'll be fine ...its weird though Despite the spooky name, it spooks easy."

Himeno blinked, a frown tugging at her lips. "Wait… you've made a contract with it before, senpai?"

Rem came to a halt, he turned to look at her his gaze locking onto hers — cold, unblinking.

"No," he said flatly. "I ate it. Back when I was in hell."

"Huh!?"

Rem grinned. "Kidding," he said, then turned and kept walking

Leaving himeno staring at his back dumbfounded

___________

Himeno's POV

I always dreamed of becoming a Devil Hunter i mean...its wasnt a hard dream if you can even call it a dream ...i am literally throwing myself in the jaws of death to kill some devils that's like saying i dream of getting eaten by a thing called circumcision devil its foolish...People say becoming a devil hunter is much easier than becoming a prostitute — and honestly, that sounds about right. I never wanted anything glamorous, just a chance to kill that Gun Devil bastard.

And now, somehow, I've landed in the strongest division. The one everyone talks about

I always told myself I was okay with dying. Said it so many times I started to believe it. But now, standing here, knowing I may be about to experience it for real… it's different.

" "Himeno… your new colleague's not right in the head," Kishibe muttered as he walked ahead, hands in his coat pockets. "Hell, even by devil hunters standards, he's out there. Whatever he says, don't let it get in your head. You'll figure each other out eventually."

I furrowed my brow, watching his back. Insane? Even for a devil hunter? What the hell does that mean?

"You mean my other senpai?" I asked cautiously. "And… what do you mean he's insane?"

Kishibe stopped in his tracks, raising a finger without looking back. "First rule — don't ask questions. Just follow orders. You'll live longer." He took a swig from a flask pulled from his coat and kept walking.

Weird… but maybe he has a point. Devil hunters aren't exactly known for being normal....though I'm curious why didn't he tell me the rest of the rules ? Is he expecting me to figure them out myself ? That's very smart but also very dangerous

____

A few moments later, Kishibe and Himeno slowed to a stop near a closed door where a red-haired woman stood, her gaze blankly fixed on the door ahead.

Kishibe leaned against the wall. Himeno mimicked him

Then — the door creaked open.

A tall, short-haired man stepped out with a shit eating grin she never saw a human make in her life. The moment his eyes landed on the red-haired woman, his grin twisted into a scowl. He brushed past her, but not before letting his eyes shamelessly drop to her Ass.

'That's rude' Himeno thought.

But then — his gaze shifted to her. And every muscle in her body tensed, a sharp, cold instinct telling her this wasn't someone to let her guard down around.

the man then turned his eyes to Kishibe.

'That was creepy ...but atleast he's handsome ' himeno thought
